  1. Pokemon Colosseum any% FAQ
  2.
  3. Q: What are you playing on, is this an Emulator?
  4. A: A Nintendo GameCube with an HDMI adapter on the back.
  5.
  6. Q: What are you trying to do?
  7. A: Beat Pokemon Colosseum as fast as possible.
  8.
  9. Q: What is a shadow Pokemon?
  10. A: Shadow Pokemon are Pokemon that are being used for wrongful acts because they had the doors to their hearts shut artificially and are the only Pokemon we can catch in the game.
  11.
  12. Q: What's different about Shadow Pokemon compared to normal Pokemon?
  13. A: In order for a Shadow Pokemon to evolve or receive any of the EXP it has gained you must unlock its heart by purifying it. Through battles, walking, and sometimes calling are the ways we purify it our Shadow Pokemon in the speedrun.
  14.
  15. Q: What is Hyper Mode?
  16. A: Hyper Mode is a condition Shadow Pokemon sometimes enter into that has a few crazy side effects. The only ones relevant to the speedrun is the 90% critical hit chance on Shadow Rush as well as not being able to use items on a Pokemon in Hyper Mode (besides scents but those aren't used in the speedrun).
  17.
  18. Q: Why are you resetting?
  19. A: Probably because I messed up manipulating stats on Espeon or got a bad Croconaw.
  20.
  21. Q: What stats are you looking for?
  22. A: 80+ Special Attack on Espeon with a Modest, Mild or Rash nature. For Croconaw's, Attack more than 55, 43+ Special Attack , and 43+ Speeds. It also helps to have a nature that purifies without wasting time calling Croconaw out of Hyper Mode (about 60% of them).
  23.
  24. Q: What Croconaw natures have the best and worst call rates?
  25. A: Impish, Brave, Sassy, Naughty, Bold, Hasty, Quirky, Adamant, Hardy, Jolly, Naive and Lax require no calls. Quiet and Serious require 0-1 Calls. Docile requires 1 call. Lonely, Rash, Modest, and Careful require 2 calls. Mild, Relaxed, and Timid require 3 calls.
  26. Calm, Gentle, and Bashful require 4 calls.
  27.
  28. Q: Why do you name yourself "Wes" instead of A?
  29. A: Naming the character "Wes" cost you about 3 seconds instead of naming him "A", but it adds consistency to RNG manipulation on Espeon. Considering a runnable Espeon was about 5% before manipulation this ends up being extremely worth it in the long run.
  30.
  31. Q: Why are you messing around on the "Battle Now" screen?
  32. A: I'm using a seed finder to find out what seed I am currently in order manipulate stats on my Espeon.
  33.
  34. Q: What does the "Battle Now" screen have to do with manipulating stats?
  35. A: Much like the trainer ID in Pokemon FireRed, the "Battle Now" Leader Pokemon and the name of the trainer is connected to the seed the game is currently using. Once we go through a few new trainer names and some new lead Pokemon, it will find exactly what seed we are on and showcase to us runnable Espeon.
  36.
  37. Q: Where can I find this seed finder program?
  38. A: Credit to aldelaro5 for his amazing work! https://github.com/aldelaro5/GC-pokemon-RNG-manipulation-assistant
  39.
  40. Q: How do you know your IVs so quickly?
  41. A: If I get the trainer ID connected to my Espeons seed or Croconaw has runnable stats, I'll plug its stats, nature and trainer ID into a program, which will show me its IVs and Hidden Power. Credit to Dabomstew for the program.
  42.
  43. Q: Are there any glitches used in this run?
  44. A: Yes there's two of them! The first of them is the infinite Poke Ball Glitch. You basically use the Pokeball turn 1, then switch the Pokeball you used to a different slot in the bag. This causes the Pokeball to have not been used and can be used with any and all Pokeballs.
  45.
  46. A2: The other glitch lets you use X-Items on your secondary Pokemon from your primary Pokemon much like in Generation 5 and up games. To do this glich, use a Revive or a Status Healing item on a non dead/status'd secondary Pokemon, then immediately use the X Item you want to use on it. This saves many turns of setup in the long wrong run and a lot more consistency throughout the route.
