+mp3talon __ Everyone - _including everyone who now claim the Earth is flat_ - grew up *believing the Earth is a big spinning ball.* That's everyone including you, me and Eric Dubay.

That belief in a ball Earth - _which may or may not be true_ - is an unjustified belief that was forged at an early age and formed wholly on trust and the appearances of proof (as opposed to proof itself). It is a harmful belief for reasons I won't go into now.

*None of us have seen sufficient proof for the shape of the Earth. None of us have been far enough away from the Earth to see the entirety of its shape and none of us have seen an image from space that has been distinguishable from CGI.*

Because I seek true things for true reasons I cannot assert *as true* that which can only be substantiated and justified through the appearances of proof.

Therefore I can have no opinion about the shape of the Earth though I certainly acknowledge that just like you and everyone else I grew up believing it to be round. I also have no problem acknowledging that the flat Earth folk make some interesting points but no - that does not mean I think that the Earth is flat or any other shape.

If the Earth is flat then it's curious that ball Earth models can give us reliable and accurate astronomical predictions. And if the Earth is a ball then perhaps it's such a big ball that it appears flat and so what we see by way of "ships over the horizon" has an explanation that is not wholly due to Earth's alleged curvature.
