- After the Holocaust during World War Two, the world vowed to never allow genocide again. Unfortunately, genocide has occurred multiple times since World War Two. Genocide is A crime defined as any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group. It is an atrocity that has a debatable beginning, and still has not ended.
- The Killing Fields of Cambodia occurred from 1975 to 1977. In this genocide, the communist party of Kampuchea led by Pol Pot Killed nearly 2 million of its own people in an attempt to restart the country based on an agrarian society. After the Khmer Rouge took control of Cambodia, they began to kill all educated people, people with soft hands, and people with well fed appearances. After the genocide was ended by the invasion of Vietnam into Cambodia, there were nearly 2 million dead, and a society that was reset to primitive standards.
- The social inequality in Rwanda between the Dutch favored Tutsies and disfavored Hutus led to the Rwandan genocide. The majority Hutus, who the dutch saw as lower than the minority Tutsies, began to kill en masse the Tutsies after the Hutu president was killed while landing back in Rwanda when his plane was shot down by Hutu militants and subsequently blamed on the Tutsies. The Rwandan genocide ended when the Rwandan Patriotic Front led by Hutus took control of Kigali and gave presidency back to a Hutu, while maintaining complete control of The Cabinet. In the end, about one million Tutsies were murdered in an atrocity that had almost no external intervention.
- In the midst of the newest genocide, that of Darfur, people have decided to help the victims. A humanitarian website savedarfur.org has been established to help end the genocide there. SouthAfricaProject.info recently sponsored a nationwide protest against the genocide in South Africa of Afrikaners on February twenty seventh, though ironically the media covering labeled them as "Neo-Nazis". Though ideal to prevent or stop a genocide peacefully, in every instance thus far, military intervention of some kind has been needed to end it.
