BACKGROUND ;; Growing up as an only child, Yeseul can be quite spoiled when she wants to be. This also means that she is quite close to her cousins, especially to Seulgi. She mostly spend time with Seulgi. She was 3, when she had been enrolled in gymnastics and eventually fell in love with it. At 10, she had discovered the arts of videogames and it did not take long before she had been hooked into playing.

Her school life was nothing extraordinary. She got good grades, there was no drama in her life and she has great friends who are there for her and she is also part of the gymnastics club. Although, she had almost failed her subjects because she had binge-played God of War and her parents and Seulgi had actually confiscated all of her gaming consoles until her grades go up.

Her trainee life was a roller coaster ride. It was hard but at the same time, it was fun. Having great friends by her side and of course her cousin, made the adventure fun. Sure, there are times that she doubted herself. As much as Yeseul would like to shake away all negative thoughts, there are times that she thought that she was not yet ready to debut despite the fact that she had been invited to debut with Red Velvet and there were a lot times that she was scouted by other entertainments.

At first glance, Yeseul is a cool type of a girl. After five seconds, that image would shatter like a fragile china as she reveals her ‘true’ self. She is not really a cool type, but most people just depicted her shyness in that way. Yeseul is reserved yet polite when is introduced to strangers and is surrounded by people she has no familiarity with.

However, once you had gotten to know the real her, Yeseul has a very unique personality – her traits contradict each other and often clash, more often these traits could be both a good thing or a bad thing. Therefore, it was often commented that Yeseul is a gemini (not the horoscope), having two sides of coin and they sometimes overlapped each other.

Yeseul is a sweet child with a boundless amount of energy. Although she is very kind, she can be quite annoying because of never-ending energy, she is stubborn too. She is gentle with her approach and often does not raise her voice. The girl absolutely respects others’ wishes – unless it has something to do with their so called personal space. Yeseul is very affectionate – to the point that she can be clingy and she, of course, invade the personal space of others, has no concept of ‘shame’ and seems to be immune with the stares that she got from people. She is also loving, she is very careful with her words and is very thorough with her actions. However, she can be quite possessive when it comes down to it. She does like not others touching her stuff and can react bitterly when persons she cares for gets along too well with other people. Yeseul is an honest person, however, that does not mean she cannot lie by not telling the whole truth, letting others assume thing, or not correcting the assumptions of people whom she is speaking to. She is also very graceful, especially during social events (despite being shy when surrounded by strangers). She is mostly noted for having grace even under pressure.

However, Yeseul is said to have a fiery temper - a very fiery temper - to the extent that she can be quite vicious and malicious. She becomes blunt, not even bothering to filter the things she is going to say and can be violent, mostly not holding back her strength (not that she is that strong, the point is she puts more force in her hit) when she wants to hit you (which is quite rare as she is a bit of a pacifist). She likes to get even, or better, she likes to make you feel worse - mostly focused on psychological aspect. Yeseul is also cynical, it takes a long time to gain her trust as she has trust issues and abandonment issues as well. She is very skeptic with people (especially those who are always smiling, very friendly and those who always say promises). However, once she trusts you, she will open up to you, she will depend on you, she will let you know her and in turn, she will fully accept you whether you're broken or not, villanous or not. Make sure to never break that trust she has in you, Yeseul never gives second chances. At most, she'll acknowledge you. She is a bit of a ditz - forgetful and silly. However, she has her moments. Also, she is indecisive - very indecisive. It takes her a long time to make a decision but on the last minute, she may change her choice. The thing about Yeseul is that she holds grudges even in the smallest of things. Although she may not say it, her actions say otherwise.

Yeseul is known for being strategic, thus, she is quite observant. She is someone who plans five steps ahead and every plan of hers has a back-up and alternatives. She is a logical and a practical person. Therefore, she is quite reasonable and sensible, she also follows processes. Yeseul is very dedicated and thus, loyal. She is someone who will do everything for the sake of the things she is dedicated to. She is also cunning and is very crafty and resourceful.

Yeseul also has this tendency to act like a young lady but utterly fails at it. Though, she can be graceful especially during social events and is considered cool...she always end up shattering that image after five seconds or so.

Red Velvet's Seulgi is her cousin. And they never bother to confirm this claim nor deny it in public. They said it was something that they want to keep private until the time was right.
Yeseul and Joy were best friends and are very close during their trainee years. However, because Yeseul had declined/rejected to be part of Red Velvet. This hurt Joy a lot and it had strained their relationship to the point that you would not even think that they were best friends.
BTOB's Sungjae had actually approached Yeseul about her relationship with Joy and had promised to her that he will help mend their relationship.
Yeseul and Red Velvet's Yeri's relationship is similar to that of cats and dogs - it was no secret that the two of them had a strange relationship and rivalry. Yeri looks up a lot to Yeseul and Yeseul had been the one who mostly look after Yeri from the shadows. The two of them might not be friends but they have this mentor-student relationship even if Yeri debuted earlier than Yeseul. When they were still trainee, Yeri's extra time would be spent with Yeseul and the older girl would be guiding the younger one. As a result, both of them love to criticize each other for their betterment and improvement and as much as they hate to admit it, they really care for each other a lot.
Yeseul's favorite sunbae is not Seulgi but SJ's Kyuhyun.
