<b>Chapter 17 – The Man who's Immune to Hypnotism</b>

”What are you talking about?” Chris said.
”Those big waves!” Dp said. ”It was kind of impossible to miss! They went through the houses and everything! Right, Crimson?”
“I'm sorry, but I don't know what you're talking about either.” Crimson replied.
“That's right. You were practicing concentration.” Dp remembered. “Luster, bro, you must have noticed.” Dp said, and turned to Luster.
“I don't know what it is you're talking about either, Dp.” Luster said. “I think you might be imagining things.”
“What!?” Dp said, confused.
“Practicing concentration?” Crimson asked. “I don't remember doing that.”
“You were doing something like that!” Dp said. Crimson looked at him confused. “Luster, back me up here, she was doing that when we met her, right?”
“Yes. You were counting quite mechanically to 100. It was like we weren't there.” Luster confirmed.
“Counting? What are you saying? I don't remember doing that!” Crimson said, still looking confused. <i>On the other hand, I can't really remember how I ended up with them here. I can't even remember going to sleep in the car. It's really weird... did they maybe put something in my food yesterday? I do remember leaving them though.</i>

“Man. It can't have been my imagination.” Dp said. “It seemed too... real.”
“Well Dp, you know you are not very smart.” Luster said. “It seems likely that something has confused you.”
“Yeah bro, but I'm sure of it!” Dp said.
“Are we there soon?” SEP asked, as he had gotten annoyed of the conversation.
“It's just a little further.” Luster said. “Oh, look who it is! Hello Reg.” Regaro was approaching them on the way to his new house.
<i>It worked.</i> Regaro thought. “Hey! Hows it going?”
“I'm fine.” Luster said.
“Who're your three friends here?” Regaro asked.
“That's Chris, Crimson and SEP.” Luster answered. “They're just about to leave the village. I'm leading them to their car.”
“Ah, I see.” Regaro said. <i>Perfect!</i>
DP looked from Reg to Luster, confused. "Um, forgive me for being dumb, but who the hell are you?"
<i>What!?</i> Regaro didn't understand. “You don't remember me?”
“How can you have forgotten Reg?” Luster asked. “He has helped us a lot.”
“Yeah, I'm Reg Kokubunji!”
“Sorry Luster, no bell is ringing.” Dp said. “But whatever. By the way, did you notice those mysterious waves before? They were all over the city.”
<i>What!? No one should be able to remember them!</i> Regaro thought. Struggling to keep his cool, Reg feigned confusion. "Umm...what waves?"
“Dp, it was just your imagination.” Luster said. “Forget about it.”
“How can none of you remember that!?” Dp said, frustrated.

<i>Dammit Jeff. Something went wrong. The hypnotism clearly hasn't affected this guy</i>, Regaro thought. <i>It's a pretty serious matter. He definitely knows the people we killed, or, well, Crimson killed. I could hypnotize him now, but it wont work forever.</i> “Hey Dp, come with me. I want to show you something!”
“I don't want to.” Dp said simply.
<i>Well, I gotta hypnotize him then, but it's important that the others aren't affected.</i> Regaro figured something out. He stood across from Dp, so that only he could see Regaro's eyes. He then moved his arms in a strange motion, while Dp was looking him straight in the eyes. <i>There! That went perfect!</i> “C'mon Dp, just come with me. This thing is really cool.”
“Once again, no!” Dp said, crossing his arms. “What were you doing there by the way?”
<i>Impossible! Why isn't it working on this guy!?</i> Regaro thought, and panicked. <i>I gotta talk with Jeff about this. Random people shouldn't be immune to it! Change of plans.</i> “Well, alright then, see you all later!”
“Bye Reg!” Luster said. Regaro turned on his heel and left briskly.

As soon as Regaro was out of their sight, he rushed back to Jeff.
“Jeff, we got a problem!” Regaro said.
“What now?” Jeff said, confused.
“There's some brat in this village named Dp.” Regaro explained. “Apparently the hypnotism had no effect on him. He doesn't know me and he even remembers the waves your device made!”
“Are you serious!?” Jeff said. “I thought I checked everything, we gotta use it on him then!”
“You don't understand.” Regaro said. “I already tried hypnotizing him again the normal way, it had no effect.”
“How can that be?” Jeff said.
“I have no idea.” Regaro said. “We don't have time to think about it though. The fact that he doesn't remember us and does remember the waves doesn't matter much, but he will remember the people we took the houses from, and will wonder about what happened.”
“That really is quite the problem.” Jeff said, rubbing his chin in an agitated way.
“Yes. We shouldn't take any chances.” Regaro said. “We gotta cooperate as fast as possible.”
“Indeed.” Jeff said. “Don't worry, I've thought of something.” Jeff said.
“You genius, that was fast!” Regaro said, looking relieved. “Speak up!”

“Alright, here's the plan.” Jeff said. “I'm gonna stay here and report the killing on the people here. They'll be able to see Crimson's fingerprints on the scythe and whatever else - she is the one who did it, after all - and then we can tell them her name and a description of  how she looks. When the WR get here, we should be able to change some settings to make sure the villagers won't remember what they came here to investigate.”
“Sounds good.” Regaro said. “What about me?”
“You gotta hurry and find that Dp guy.” Jeff said. “Is he with anyone?”
“With some guy named Luster, Crimson and the two revolutionaries she's here with.” Regaro said. “The latter three are about to leave the village.”
“That's fine.” Jeff said. “As soon as they've said goodbye to those three, hypnotize his friend into killing Dp and himself afterwards. It should be easy. Then, I'll report the death of Dp and Luster as well." Jeff paused, thinking of something. "I've just got to find the names of the three people we killed earlier. You'll have plenty of time after I call them.”
“You sure this will work?” Regaro said.

“The three people Crimson killed will never be revealed to the village and everyone will still assume that we've always lived here.” Jeff said. “They'll find out about Luster and Dp, but there'll be no way to find out that Luster was under hypnosis when he murdered DP and killed himself. Crimson being arrested, killed or whatever they plan to do will not have anything to do with us.”
“Two more things.” Regaro said. “They might recognize the two of us, and how can we know that Dp is the only one not affected?”
“I'll change my looks. There's no way they'll think some “dead” man is the one reporting these murders." Jeff said. “We can't be sure about the others, but it was very unlikely that even one person would be unaffected, so most likely he is the only one. Either way, we have no choice but to believe that for now.”
“Alright then.” Regaro said. “Lets do it."
