  1. Truly wondrous events start on typically normal days. I was out in the fields of my homeland, walking to town to buy the day’s food from market. I had to start early, for it was a long walk, and the sun had just started to peek from over the horizon. Then, from above, a light of similar radiance descended from the sky. It was an angel, and in her arms was a child swaddled in silk fabric.
  2.
  3. The angel looked at me with a peaceful smile. “You,” she said, “I have a task for you. This is a child blessed by Heaven. Her spirit is that of a warrior’s, but in this life, raise her with love and peace.”
  4.
  5. I nearly dropped my basket I was filled with such awe. An angel, baring a child from Heaven. Certainly this was a moment that would change history itself. I was being delivered the newborn Queen of Cerphixen I was sure.
  6.
  7. “Th-this child,” I stammered. “I’m sorry, I’m simply not worthy! For one so great as this… I’m just a simple scholar. I could never deliver on a prophecy such as this!”
  8.
  9. “Proph…?” The angel looked confused. “No, you misunderstand. This isn’t my child. She was born of mortal parents. I’m just delivering her to a worthy mother to live out a peaceful and loved life.”
  10.
  11. I paused for a moment. “…Did you steal this child?”
  12.
  13. “No!” The angel sucked in her cheeks. “It… It’s the divine will that this child live a prosperous life! Not… Look if you saw the mother you’d understand!”
  14.
  15. She held out the baby in front of her. “Congratulations you were selected by Heaven to receive one blessed child do you accept the offer?”
  16.
  17. I took the girl into my own arms. Upon closer look, I noticed that she was a Spirit Child. Odd, I thought, that the blood parents not be fit for upbringing, as the Spirit Children were notoriously peaceful folk. But one look into her eyes and I knew my fate was to protect her.
  18.
  19. The angel then put her hand upon my brow. “As thanks, I will give you the power to forever protect the child from any harm. May you forever fight to protect those you love with Heaven’s light.”
  20.
  21. From that day on, I swore to protect you Damera, and I’m sorry I failed. But once again I have my mind, my spirit, and I can feel that you are still alive after all these years. I will find you again.
