- Critical Thinking: thinking systematically and logically about something to fully understand it (beyond just agreeing or disagreeing)
- Knowledge - low-order (primary, most basic)
- Comprehension
- Application
- Analysis
- Synthesis
- Evaluation - high-order (most developed ideas)
- (these are described on 106-107 (302-303) of your book)

- Common Errors in Judgment (list on 113/309)
- Projection: you “project” your own decisions onto other people (you assume they do the same thing), to justify your own actions
- halo: the ring that traditionally goes around an angel’s (or other holy person) head
- halo effect: when you assume a person is good at many things due to evidence from just a few things, or you assume someone’s choices are correct (or at least made for good reasons) because they’re generally a good person, without actually analyzing those choices
- “Dani can do no wrong.”
- attribution error: I make my choices because of my circumstances, other people make decisions because of the type of person they are
- example: I’m late because the alarm didn’t go off, and then…, and then the train was delayed
- You’re late because you’re a lazy person.
- confirmation bias: we remember information better when it confirms what we already believed, and easily forget it when it contradicts what we already believe
- ---
- How can we counter some of these typical errors?

- Homework: look at the interview at http://gladwell.com/the-tipping-point/the-tipping-point-q-and-a/
- we will discuss it and apply it in class tomorrow
