Whatever did this may still be around, but we haven't seen the cause.] She also sends a mental picture of the body as it crumbles into a pile.

What I've read about Everfree creatures from before the war suggests that they could do this thing without being twisted by horrible radiation. But I don't know anything about the jungle around here...

They would have slaughtered us all... but they weren't expecting Precious." He looks at Noble_Heart knowingly. "I don't think they knew what to do. So they took everyone captive instead."

  45. [2016-11-02 13:41:10] * Shatara lands nearby, setting down the zebra and approaching the scene quietly, looking kind of embarrased and not really wanting to draw too much attention.
  46. [2016-11-02 13:46:24] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Bookwright is not far from Golden_Dream and the soldiers. Soon, Golden_Dream brings them to where the powdered ash pile marks where once had lived a pony.

  48. [2016-11-02 13:48:34] <Mare-Do-Well> 3In the infirmary, Effigy passes out from the strain and the medical ponies rush to surround him, one nurse shooing Major Tripwire and Noble_Heart out.
  49. [2016-11-02 13:50:01] * Noble_Heart frowns as she's forced out. Flattening her ears in contemplation. "If these Sun Zebras have followed Effigy here, they are likely a great danger to all those within the confines of this ship. According to the dragons, conventional weapons do not work on them. But beyond that We have little information about their capabilities and danger they pose."
  50. [2016-11-02 13:52:17] * Bookwright "So... Wait, we have a murdered pony, dead by unknown means, and the killer is uncaught? This is just like one of those pre-war detective novel plots. 'Murder most foul'. Can we interview the mare who found the, er, remains?"

  52. [2016-11-02 13:56:51] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The soldiers begin looking about, although none of them are more than amateur detectives. One nods to Bookwright. "She came by us, screaming bloody murder... or, dusty murder, I guess..." One of the others whacks him upside the head with a metal-clad hoof. "Ow!"
  53. [2016-11-02 13:57:30] <Mare-Do-Well> 3"Anyway, we called it in to the Major, then looked around a bit. This this gal," he points to Golden_Dream, "Comes running up screaming about a pony getting powderized and something happening in a closet."
  54. [2016-11-02 14:02:34] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Major Tripwire whinnies. "In that case," he tells Noble_Heart, "My next stop is the 'dangerous creatures' lab."
  55. [2016-11-02 14:02:55] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Major Tripwire sets off across the Thunderhead.
  56. [2016-11-02 14:03:01] * Noble_Heart frowns and nods her head. "That seems like a good choice, yes." She follows along after the Major.
  57. [2016-11-02 14:05:08] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The pegasus addressing Bookwright shrugs. "I'm not sure exactly where the mare ran off to. Somewhere in Lunar's Rising. But I looked at her long enough for my visor to get an I.D., so if nothing else, we can catch up to her when she gets her next food chit.

  59. [2016-11-02 14:06:06] * Bookwright frowns. "Well, it would probably be illuminating to talk to her. In the meantime... do we know who the deceased is?"
  60. [2016-11-02 14:08:18] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The soldiers look between each other before one admits, "Nope."
  61. [2016-11-02 14:09:46] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Mitzi is still chatting with Wind Weaver, who is explaining her new research, when Major Tripwire and Noble_Heart enter the lab. The Major trots over to the new lead scientist, pulling him aside.
  62. [2016-11-02 14:10:21] * Bookwright "Er... Can you do a headcount or something to find out? It could be important. Um," he pushes his glasses back up "What about this hallway? Does it see a lot of traffic? Is it near any sensitive areas?"
  63. [2016-11-02 14:10:33] * Mitzi looks up to Noble_Heart, but a warm greeting dies at the sight of her expression. "Eez sumteen wrong?"
  64. [2016-11-02 14:10:58] * Noble_Heart spots Mitzi and waves a forehoof at her with a smile, heading up in that direction. "We may soon have new enemies. Something terrible has happened onboard. It also seems the Equestrian attempt at peace has not gone well."
  65. [2016-11-02 14:11:43] * Mitzi frowns. Equestria's peace was what she was banking the future of her kind on. "Wut happened?'
  66. [2016-11-02 14:13:05] <Mare-Do-Well> 3One of the soldiers nods. "We can headcount the military personnel immediately. Headcounting the civilian citizens, however, may take a bit. They're not all tagged." Another notes, "Headcount will be done automatically when the food chits are passed out."
  67. [2016-11-02 14:13:27] <Mare-Do-Well> 3A third interjects, "Yeah, but that won't help if it's one of the natives, or one of them..." she points towards Bookwright, "...instead of a pegasus."
  68. [2016-11-02 14:15:16] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Mwana confirms, "It was a pegasus."
  69. [2016-11-02 14:16:08] * Get_Lost has finally recovered her breath, decides to start scanning the area with the magical radiation field detector
  70. [2016-11-02 14:19:28] * Noble_Heart shakes her head. "The Changelings did not want peace. They took the diplomats captive. Effigy escaped and is here, receiving medical help. We believe the sun zebras which the dragons spoke of may have also followed him here."
  71. [2016-11-02 14:21:44] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Get_Lost isn't picking up any unusual sources of magical radiation. She expects those she senses from her friends. And the auras from the Enclave soldier's magically-powered armors and magical plasma weapons.
  72. [2016-11-02 14:23:33] <Mare-Do-Well> 3She does notice something off on the floor around the dust. Not magical radiation, though. More of a discoloration. The first thing that comes to mind is using infrared to find heat sources, and spotting someplace cooler than its surroundings.
  73. [2016-11-02 14:24:16] * Get_Lost "there is nothing on the magical field, let me try with heat vision... if any of you has some sort of enhanced senses, please use it. maybe i found something"
  74. [2016-11-02 14:25:26] * Mitzi nods. "So the bug ponees eez set on war. Will da stripey ponees listen Eef we get rid uv da Bug ponees?"
  75. [2016-11-02 14:26:37] * Noble_Heart frowns at that. "We are uncertain. But it is likely? THere are those within Roam which do not agree with the way they are being ruled. We have met some of them."
  76. [2016-11-02 14:28:14] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Get_Lost finds nothing unusual on infrared. Except perhaps that the ash pile itself has no heat signature. It's completely room temperature.
  77. [2016-11-02 14:29:41] * Get_Lost takes a look around anyway, just to be sure "i dont' see anything weird..."
  78. [2016-11-02 14:32:55] * Mitzi nods to Noble_Heart. "So we just need to expose da bug ponees und den da stripey ponees will we willeen tu listen." She stretches and rolls her neck with a slight sigh. All that work to prevent the Hellhounds from going to war and someone else was trying just as hard to start one.
  79. [2016-11-02 14:34:07] * Noble_Heart nods her head and frowns. "Which may prove complex. They have all of Roam in their sway. And what's more, the zebras there are grateful for their lives as they are. Attempts to upset things may be seen as aggression." She sighs quietly. "We would very much like this to end without conflict. But We also suspect that may prove impossible."
  80. [2016-11-02 14:35:22] <Mare-Do-Well> 3One of the soldiers steps back outside. A moment later, Major Tripwire pauses his conversation to listen to a call on his earbloom.
  81. [2016-11-02 14:36:16] <Mare-Do-Well> 3"Excuse me a few minutes," he says. "We're going to run a tag-sweep, get a headcount."
  82. [2016-11-02 14:37:37] * Noble_Heart looks up towards the Major and nods her head. "Something strange is certainly going on. We wish you luck."
  83. [2016-11-02 14:38:15] * CopyCat stands beside Get_Lost, frowning. She'd been sharing Get_Lost's observations (or rather, the mental result of those observations) as the cyber mare was having them. Two sets of eyes seeing what one set of eyes saw could be useful sometimes. "Wait, Get_Lost. There /was/ a strangeness about the ash on your magical vision. Did it look... 'colder' to you? Even more devoid of magic than the ground around it? Like it had perhaps

  85. [2016-11-02 14:39:18] * Get_Lost "well, yes... i was wondering if that implied vampirism of some sort, but you know... it's a bit far fetched and i don't want to raise the panic"
  86. [2016-11-02 14:45:28] * CopyCat nods to Get_Lost. "Good thinking."
  87. [2016-11-02 14:46:04] <Mare-Do-Well> 3One soldier (the one who thumped the other with her hoof) returns to one of Bookwright's earlier questions. "This hallway isn't a major artery for the city, but since it does lead to an exit, it could have moments of traffic."
  88. [2016-11-02 14:46:44] * Get_Lost "i'd like to have more informations about this, actually... say, are there cameras active in the perimeter?"
  89. [2016-11-02 14:47:01] * Golden_Dream folds her forelegs and stands next to Mwana. "Prolly won't help much. They ain't got th' sight."
  90. [2016-11-02 14:47:39] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The soldier nods. "The hallway itself isn't monitored, but the entrance has a camera."
  91. [2016-11-02 14:49:01] <Mare-Do-Well> 3One of the others points upwards to an empty bracket. "It used to have a camera, but it was used to replace a failed camera in the west hanger."
  92. [2016-11-02 14:49:30] <Mare-Do-Well> 3"But that was over a decade ago."
  93. [2016-11-02 14:51:34] * CopyCat gasps, turning to Bookwright, "A fiendish murder plot a decade in the making!"
  94. [2016-11-02 14:52:45] * CopyCat then looks very sheepish. "Or just unfortunate, I suppose..."
  95. [2016-11-02 14:55:09] * Get_Lost "we could see if that mare was coming from the entrance or fled there... if it was some sort of attack from the ourtside, we should be able to see her, or it... we have quite a precise time and we can check the recordings"
  96. [2016-11-02 14:55:10] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The soldier who hasn't spoken yet finally nickers. "It's not exactly unknown that there isn't a camera in this hallway. Plenty of ponies have made use of that to have... secret entanglements in the broom closet."
  97. [2016-11-02 14:57:22] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The soldier who went outside returns, delivering the same report that Major Tripwire does in the lab: all tagged military and citizens on-base have been accounted for. There is a group of five that they cannot confirm, but that is a scout group not due to return for another two hours.
  98. [2016-11-02 14:58:19] * Noble_Heart frowns at that and taps her chin. "Then there are two possibilities. Either the one who died was not what they appeared to be. Or someone has replaced them and is pretending to be them." She scowled, neither prospect was good.
  99. [2016-11-02 14:58:21] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Over two-thirds of the civilian population, however, is untagged. As well as visitors such as those from the /Cutlass/.
  100. [2016-11-02 14:59:42] * Shatara makes sure Jugeote understands what is going on.
  101. [2016-11-02 14:59:52] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Major Tripwire notes, "We will have a full headcount when they pass out food chits in a few hours. That's the only time we get a proper census of all the non-tagged civilians."
  102. [2016-11-02 15:00:08] * CopyCat ponders aloud. "A horrible murder in a place where teens gather for sin and debauchery... and at this time of year..." CopyCat's eyes go wide. "Oh no! "We're in a halloween slasher movie! Quick! No one engage in premarital hanky-panky or enter the woods alone at night!"
  103. [2016-11-02 15:00:30] * Golden_Dream blinks. "Um." UM.
  104. [2016-11-02 15:00:41] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote frowns and nods, thankful for the translation. "I can't imagine it was one of us. But then, if Mwana made it this far into the base, some other stripe might have."
  105. [2016-11-02 15:01:04] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Mwana again reiterates that the corpse was a pegasus.
  106. [2016-11-02 15:01:59] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Mwana also notes, "We are literally surrounded by a jungle forest."
  107. [2016-11-02 15:06:59] * CopyCat looks between Golden_Dream and Mwana. "Oh dear, um... w-well we can still avoid ancient burial grounds!" Her nervous smile looks more nervous. "R-remind me, the Thunderhead isn't parked on top of that buried zebra temple, right?"
  108. [2016-11-02 15:07:44] * Golden_Dream has a pained expression. "Temples were all over th' place on th' Basin. There's more temple than jungle, almost."
  109. [2016-11-02 15:17:05] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Mwana points out, "The Thunderhead is parked over the ruins of the Fortress of Talikon, which was once the stronghold of Ahuizotl and his cult."
  110. [2016-11-02 15:20:36] * CopyCat grabs Golden_Dream by the shoulders. "Okay, don't panic don't panic!" she says, clearly panicking. "W-we just need to stay in a group with you two and never split up. Then the killer can't get you!"
  111. [2016-11-02 15:21:13] * Get_Lost yeah, great idea... i think i'll go checking the recordings of the entrance, yes?
  112. [2016-11-02 15:22:59] * Mare-Do-Well 3whispers into Bookwright's ears, "Yeah. Been to this place when it was still a fortress. Hell, I bet the Rings of Scorcharro are still burried in the rubble somewhere."

  114. [2016-11-02 15:25:10] * Mitzi looks at Wind Weaver a bit sadly. "Uh'd luv tu see more uv yur new wurk, but Ur friends need me Uh tink."
  115. [2016-11-02 15:27:25] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Wind Weaver nods. "I'll see you soon." She looks back at her pictures. "Maybe very soon, if this looks like it was a dangerous creature, and not a spell or something."
  116. [2016-11-02 15:27:28] * Bookwright "I'm sorry, the rings of /what?/ What do they, er did they do?"
  117. [2016-11-02 15:31:09] * Mare-Do-Well 3ughs. It is a sound that Bookwright has to imagine is accompanied by an invisible eye roll. "The Rings of Scorcharro. You know, that if combined on the rune obelisk in the Fortress of Talikon would cast a dark enchantment that could subvert the protection of the Radiant Shield of Rasdon?"
  118. [2016-11-02 15:32:07] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Even some of the Enclave soldiers overhear a voice on the wind that seems to grouse, "I was *in* that book!"
  119. [2016-11-02 15:33:10] * Shatara is pretty sure whatever is going on isn't following slasher rules. At least he hopes it's not.

  138. [2016-11-02 16:10:13] * Golden_Dream pops up. "You know, I only really got to watch movies about twice a year when the pictureshow caravan swings along and we can scrape up enough to give 'em." She smiles. "I always brought th' Cracker Jacks."

  143. [2016-11-02 16:27:40] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Fifteen minutes later, the group is watching a copy of the security camera footage. They know that this same footage is being reviewed by Major Tripwire and others in the E.L.R. elsewhere.
  144. [2016-11-02 16:29:56] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The door does not get much traffic. In fact, the first people seen entering are Golden_Dream and Mwana. And after they do, that entrance remains unused until the mare Golden_Dream and Mwana identify as the one who screamed trots into view and uses the entrance.
  145. [2016-11-02 16:30:45] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Between one and two minutes later, she flees back out of the entrance, screaming.
  146. [2016-11-02 16:31:40] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Soon, Bookwright arrives... and events progress as the group knows it should.
  147. [2016-11-02 16:35:10] * Noble_Heart taps her chin. "There is another entrance to that hallway? Whatever happened there, it is certainly not recorded here. Though We suggest that Mwana and Golden Dream begin considering talking about what they were doing, and why."
  148. [2016-11-02 16:37:16] * Bookwright makes a thoughtful noise. "So, now we know the assailant came from inside the city, and didn't come into the city from here. But we didn't see the victim here either, so that means the victim came from inside the city too, and is not an outsider. It would be helpful to interview that mare, has she been tracked down yet?"
  149. [2016-11-02 16:37:54] <Mare-Do-Well> 3"Well yeah. It's a hallway," one of the pegasi says. Then after getting cross looks, expounds, "It leads to a cross hallway. From there, you can either go to the civilian housing or to hydroponics."
  150. [2016-11-02 16:37:55] * Golden_Dream whistles innocently. "Um, Noble? Are you sure you really wanna know th' details of what went on in there? I mean, I can tell you, but do you really wanna know?"
  151. [2016-11-02 16:38:44] * Noble_Heart frowns at Golden_Dream, "We are concerned that the Major or others in charge may wish to indicate that Mwana is guilty of this attack. It is doubtless that at least some of the pegasi here would be happy to have a chance to blame the Zebras for their problems."
  152. [2016-11-02 16:39:00] * CopyCat ponders, "Hmm, so all our unknown subjects came from inside..." she nods at Bookwright's observations.
  153. [2016-11-02 16:39:10] * Mitzi tilts her head at Golden_Dream.

  155. [2016-11-02 16:42:55] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Mwana looks to Noble_Heart. "I really hope you're wrong about that."
  156. [2016-11-02 16:44:04] <Mare-Do-Well> 3One of the soldiers tells Bookwright, "Not yet. At least, not that I know of."
  157. [2016-11-02 16:44:42] * Golden_Dream 's ears flatten out. "ALRIGHT FINE. You really wanna know? We went into th' broomcloset t' get some privacy. First I started off by suckin' on his ears like he likes t' get him goin', you can see th' hickeys on th' inside of his ears. You want more? I got more."
  158. [2016-11-02 16:46:16] * Mitzi nods to Golden_Dream. "Uh didn't know ponees also liked dueen dat een private." She looks genuniely interested at the information.
  159. [2016-11-02 16:52:05] * Bookwright makes a deeper, more thoughtful-esque noise than the one he just made. "I think the base should go on alert then. There's a murderer loose in the city somewhere. Maybe put a buddy system policy into place? Being alone right now seems dangerous."
  160. [2016-11-02 16:54:33] * Golden_Dream blushes a little. "We don't, really. I think breath sounds right next to his ears just kinda excites him. Anyway, from there we made out a bit, then he went downwards, we spun around..."
