  1. >Normally the Loud family drove their rickety old van to get to school
  2. >But last week it finally kicked the bucket
  3. >A van that had been in their family since their paternal great-great-great-grandfather
  4. >A tragedy to end all tragedy
  5. >Sure, it barely worked and most the seats were either sticky or drove a spring into your thigh
  6. >But it was still part of the family, warts and all
  7. >It's loss would be felt for years to come
  8. >At least, Aunt Lana would miss it
  9. >The only reason why Marla Jones knew any of this was because Lacy wouldn't shut up about it during the week she took the bus to school
  10.
  11. >Meet Marla
  12. >Normally she'd get a ride from her mother but with the new season coming up she didn't have the time
  13. >It was fine, Marla was used to being alone
  14. >But Lacy never seemed to understand that
  15. >She always followed Marla around like a lost puppy and inviting her to sit with her friends at lunch
  16. >How dare she?
  17. >But Lincoln finally found a suitable replacement so she didn't have to deal with Lacy so early in the morning
  18. >She could finally go back to having some peace and quiet, watching the town speed by
  19. >"Hi!"
  20. >Never mind
  21. >"Is this seat taken?"
  22. >Of all the times to forget her equipment in her locker
  23. >It was her go-to seat filler
  24. >Looks like she'll have to get rid of her the old-fashioned way
  25. >She went to turn to repel the intruder but the biting statement on the edge of her tongue was cut off when she looked at her
  26. >That. Wasn't. Fair.
  27.
  28. >It was Gloom
  29. >She was notorious throughout the school for her endowments
  30. >She only turned 11 last month and she was already beating some of the seniors
  31. >Many rumors surrounded the girl and her chest
  32. >Most of them were about how she stuffed her bra
  33. >One look at her frankly terrifying mother silenced all of those claims
  34. >She was just that lucky
  35. >"Um, are you alright?"
  36. >A combination of furious anger, extreme envy, and a massive inferiority complex prevented Marla from speaking
  37. >She won't leave until she gets a no so Marla tried to force out any sound
  38. >It was an difficult task, trying to force any noise out in this state
  39. >"Yuh"
  40. >That was not the sound she wanted she wanted
  41. >"Thanks!"
  42. >Gloom immediately jumped into the seat before she could correct herself
  43. >"What's your name? I'm Gloom!"
  44. >It wasn't surprising she had an odd name
  45. >Her mom was almost as creepy as Lacy's emo aunt
  46. >Just as unapproachable though
  47. >"I-I. I'm Marla."
  48. >Vocalizing was still an issue
  49. >Too much brainpower was spent lamenting the fact that a girl 2 years younger than her was beating her in every department
  50. >"Hi Marla." "What sport do you play?"
  51. >This girl was pretty brazen
  52. >"Golf and Baseball."
  53. >"You play two sports? Neat. Which one is your favorite?"
  54. >Nobody should be this chipper at 7:15 AM
  55.
  56. >As the bus ride and questions continued Marla come to a horrible realization
  57. >This was Lacy 2.0
  58. >Friendly, can't take a hint and endlessly inquisitive
  59. >But this new model has several improvements over the last
  60. >The biggest being her features
  61. >Marla was used to boys thinking Lacy was cute while passing her over
  62. >But not only was Gloom as cute as Lacy she drew the eyes of every boy when she bounced around
  63. >She knew it was a dumb thing to be angry about but that didn't stop the sting of envy
  64. >Why couldn't she be that gifted
  65. >If she had a chest like that boys might actually talk to her
  66. >She could finally beat Lacy at something
  67. >She hadn't actually heard any of Gloom's question past the first two
  68. >Her monosyllabic answers seemed to be enough for Gloom
  69. >When will this ride end
  70.
  71. >It only took 20 minutes to get to school but it felt like 20 hours
  72. >When the doors finally opened Marla got up and made a break for it
  73. >Shoving the other kids out of the way in a mad dash to escape
  74. >She didn't look back until she made it to the front gates
  75. "Hey! Wait!"
  76. >Holy shit
  77. >Gloom was actually running across the parking lot to keep up
  78. >Everyone was staring at them now
  79. >Most were looking only for Gloom but a dew were curious why she was running after one of the meanest girls in the school
  80. >"You almost left me behind. What happened to walking together?"
  81. >She must have agreed to that when she was on autopilot
  82. >Marla's famously bad temper was reaching atomic levels
  83. >"Are you feeling ok? I'm not mad, everyone makes mistakes."
  84. >"I know what will make you feel better!"
  85. >Gloom's second most famous trait was her love of hugs
  86. >Anyone who was considered a friend got one
  87. >So that meant everyone in the state of Michigan
  88. >Before Marla could get away she was grabbed
  89. >Good lord, this girl was a lot stronger than she looked
  90. >She would not let go until she was done
  91.
  92. >This was the final straw
  93. >All Marla wanted was a quiet morning
  94. >She didn't want to entertain the idea of having two Lacy's follow her around
  95. >She could see people in the parking lot laughing at them
  96. >She needed to end this now
  97. >"There you go. Do you feel better now?
  98. >As soon as Gloom freed her she reared back and prepared to show off her most famous trait
  99. >Punching those who annoy her
  100. >She usually aimed for the face but some part of her mind thought of a more fitting area
  101. >"OW!"
  102. >Gloom dropped to the ground instantly, clutching her chest
  103. >She seemed like a fragile girl so Marla didn't hit her as hard as she could have
  104. >Definitely not enough to drop her like that
  105. >"Why did you do that? They're really sensitive!"
  106. >Oh no
  107. >She was starting to cry
  108. >"Marla Jones!"
  109. >Marla whipped around and came face to face with Principal Johnson
  110. >"Come to my office right now!"
  111. >She knew speaking would only make things worse
  112. >As she walked to the principals office she took one last look at Gloom
  113. >Lacy and her brother with the headband were helping Gloom up
  114. >Because of course they had to see that
  115. >Sighing, Marla entered the office
  116. >Mom would probably have to cancel her training and come get her
  117. >She'd have to endure another lecture about controlling her anger
  118. >And people at school would avoid her more than usual
  119. >It seems like Marla's next couple of weeks would be really quiet
