  1. On that lonely rock.
  2.
  3. It was a sunny day in mid July. The sky was blue and free of clouds. We had just returned from a long trip to Iran where I met part of my family for the first time.
  4.
  5. It was the same summer where I had previously, a few days before, been electrocuted by a hanging wire in my grandparents garden. When my curiosity got me hurt, real bad. In a way like the story of Icarus, I noticed a hanging wire and was told that it's dangerous. That free flowing electricity would cause you to spasm in pain. My curiosity took me closer and closer until I eventually grasped the wire with both my hands and felt that awful feeling. It felt like every bit of my body was tensing up, more and more. I tried to fight back, but I couldn't let go. I kept tensing up more and more, uncontrollably. I remember the panic I felt, my mind was pacing. I couldn't hear anything because of the intermittent sound of ringing and buzzing. Almost like a tapping sound that was racing over 200bpm.
  6. It lasted until my aunt tackled me and I was thrown meters away.
  7. The first few seconds I couldn't move, I couldn't cry. Everything was still so tense. As if my skin was about to explode. My hands felt hot, and as I gazed downwards I noticed two blackened lines straight across both of my palms.
  8. I remember how scared I was. My mother and aunt ran to me in panic, wrapped me around a blanket and placed my feet inside the dirt. The tension and cramps started to let off and I started crying.
  9.
  10. I cried and wanted my father. I wanted him to come and take me away from this place. Never in my life have I ever felt the need to have him next to me like I did in that moment. He was my hero, the one who would always safe-guard me.
  11. My mother quickly complied and phoned my father and I when I heard him on the other end of the line, "Hallo..?" I just started crying. "Baba I want to come home now. I don't want to be here anymore." I could hear how my fathers voice cracked a bit in his replies when he tried to comfort me. He told me it would be alright, that we would meet each other soon again.
  12.
  13. A few grumpy weeks later, we arrived at the airport. And my father was there to pick us up. I stayed silent the entire flight, and the second we landed and I saw my dad I ran straight into his arms, closed my eyes and cried. My father held me tight, whispered into my ears that it's alright. You are home now. He did not yell at me, or argue why I grabbed that wire. He whispered that sometimes our curiosity will take us to places that hurt us. But we should not refrain from it, just learn from the experience and grow stronger.
  14.
  15. As we drove home, I went outside and walked towards a group of rocks that were infront of our house. It was a sunny day in mid July. The sky was blue and free of clouds. I remember sitting on that rock, looking into the sky, feeling the gusts of wind on my face, thinking about what my father had just said.
  16. That sometimes life hurts, but to never let it stop you from being curious.
  17. And I wondered, will I feel the same way when I am older?
