  2. Hevajra
  3. hey BrightIngot , what's good ?
  4. BrightIngot
  5. hi, Hevajra
  6. Hevajra
  7. would you care to comment on my screed?
  8. Hevajra
  9. The gospel accounts *may* be accurate descriptions of a real 'miracle jesus' however there is a reasonable doubt the gospels are mythic histories like other similar ones in the world. As there is no evidence outside the gospels for the 'miracle jesus' found inside the gospels it is unreasonable for anyone (including 'god') to base universal truth on disputed documents thereby attempting to hold men to account on that basis.
  10. Hevajra
  11. I am attempting to show christianity has a very weak claim to be a universal truth
  12. BrightIngot
  13. Hevajra: There's no reason to think the Gospel accounts of Jesus' 'miracles' are accurate.
  14. BrightIngot
  15. There is every reason to think they're fabricated.
  16. BrightIngot
  17. The 'miracles' of Christianity is a resolved topic among academics.
  18. BrightIngot
  19. It only remains open to those that are interested in living in the past.
  20. Hevajra
  21. BrightIngot, yes I agree , I was trying to be generous while dismissing their case no the grounds it is at best based on disputed documents
  22. Hevajra
  23. on the grounds
  24. Hevajra
  25. what kind of case rests on disputed documents?
  26. Hevajra
  27. answer: a VERY weak one
  28. Hevajra
  29. they claim the gospels are eye witness evidence !
  30. BrightIngot
  31. You know they're not.
  32. BrightIngot
  33. They were written 50-100 years after the fact.
  34. Hevajra
  35. BrightIngot, they claim this is within the lifespan of the disciples
  36. BrightIngot
  37. I believe that is known false.
  38. BrightIngot
  39. Gospel[note 1] originally meant the Christian message itself, but in the 2nd century it came to be used for the books in which the message was set out.[2] The four canonical gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John comprise the first four books of the New Testament of the Bible and were probably written between AD 66 and 110.[3][4][5] All four were anonymous (the modern names were added in the 2nd century),
  40. BrightIngot
  41. almost certainly none were by eyewitnesses, and all are the end-products of long oral and written transmission,[6]
  42. BrightIngot
  43. "almost certainly none were by eyewitnesses"
  44. BrightIngot
  45. Hevajra: Evolution adapted our species to generally be theistic.
  46. BrightIngot
  47. We're theistic because of two primary reasons it appears: 1) supernaturalization of socialization and 2) false positives in agency detection
  48. Hevajra
  49. what is the fallacy of over personalizing things called? is that agency detection?
  50. Banquo has left IRC (Quit: )
  51. BrightIngot
  52. Humans are generally terrible at reasoning and barely have any awareness of how their own minds work; motivating reasoning is one of the ubiquitous experiences of the human mind.
  53. Hedrin_
  54. Remember when you could go to a gas station and get free air. Now you have to pay 50 cents. Inflation.
  55. BrightIngot
  56. People were genetically adapted to be theists confabulated the Gospel accounts to suit their emotional and cognitive needs.
  57. BrightIngot
  58. By 'over personalizing' do you mean assigning agency when none is present?
  59. Hevajra
  60. yes
  61. Hevajra
  62. you provided the answer before i asked
  63. BrightIngot
  64. I think there's a better word for it.
  65. BrightIngot
  66. Agency detection would be the general cognitive task that is not a bias.
  67. BrightIngot
  68. As there are agents to be discovered.
  69. BrightIngot
  70. We just over-detect agencies as it's costly to under-detect them.
  71. barabbas` has left IRC (Quit: )
  72. BrightIngot
  73. 'Magical thinking' is close to what you're describing.
  74. Hevajra
  75. yes , that too
  76. Hevajra
  77. god is the word for the greater reality humans don't understand
  78. BrightIngot
  79. There are thousands and thousands of claims of people rising from the dead.
  80. BrightIngot
  81. Christians care about one of those claims above others because of where they were born, generally.

  87. not really
  88. Hevajra
  89. i'd say I was a naturalist but believe nature is way more than we perceive or can conceptualize
  90. BrightIngot
  91. The entire Christian metaphysics is not compatible with contemporary cosmology.
  92. BrightIngot
  93. Therefore, it is false.
  94. Hevajra
  95. one of the problems debating christians is they don't really have a clearly defined metaphysics anymore , since at least as far back as the reformation
  96. BrightIngot
  97. Hevajra: Are you familiar with transhumanism?
  98. Hevajra
  99. yes
  100. BrightIngot

  119. I am a vegan.
  120. Hevajra
  121. not sure how that follows but ok
  122. BrightIngot
  123. For the original humans, being compared to non-humans is an insult.
  124. BrightIngot
  125. For vegans, it is not an insult, as we care deeply about non-humans.
  126. BrightIngot
  127. For me, non-humans have 'about the same' value as humans.
  128. mooty
  129. i think a combination of trent reznor and brian hugh warner convinced me to ditch christianity.. here i am, you magickal speciation.. ill get to work on being a philosopher scientist
  130. BrightIngot
  131. That is a donkey, to me, has about the same value as any human.
  132. BrightIngot
  133. Hevajra: Being an ethical vegan, for me, is about correctly assessing the capacities of every being and then respecting those capacities.
  134. Hevajra
  135. yourself included?
  136. BrightIngot
  137. Correct.
  138. BrightIngot
  139. I might have a little more marginal value, as I belong to the dominant species and so I can use my mind to advocate for donkeys
  140. BrightIngot
  141. (Donkeys are extremely cute, by the way)
  142. BrightIngot
  143. What's my point?
  144. mooty
  145. and smart
  146. Hevajra
  147. yes my brother in law has donkeys
  148. BrightIngot
  149. Peter Singer has developed a theory of animal rights that is quite different than what most humans have
  150. BrightIngot
  151. Most humans have a 'personhood' model of animal rights that is binary -- you're either a person or not
  152. BrightIngot
  153. This is obviously untenable
  154. BrightIngot
  155. Peter Singer's model is a graph that assigns rights to those necessary capacities for that right
  156. BrightIngot
  157. So, for example, human males have no right to abortion, as their physiology doesn't support that
  158. Hevajra
  159. he's the guy who values chimpanzees more highly than Downs Syndrome kids?
  160. BrightIngot
  161. But human females do have that right
  162. BrightIngot
  163. Hevajra: That is likely false
  164. BrightIngot
  165. He is a philosopher, though, so he has views that are sometimes weird to typical humans
  166. BrightIngot
  167. That's what it means to be smarter
  168. BrightIngot
  169. It means beings that are less smart than you can't always figure out your motives and goals
  170. BrightIngot
  171. Anyways, pigs have no right to free speech, as they don't have the cognitive capacity for that right, but they do have a right to not be killed, as their physiology supports that
  172. BrightIngot
  173. How does this apply to humans?
  174. BrightIngot
  175. We need to generate a new right called 'right to guide human civilization'
  176. Hevajra
  177. "He's a philosopher who eats no meat or dairy and thinks we're no better than animals. In fact, he thinks a chimp has more right to exist than a person, and that killing babies can be justified. He is hated and feared for daring to challenge the sanctity of human life, " ya he might be that guy?
  178. BrightIngot
  179. And only those humans who are highly intelligent, highly moral, and very open and adept to learning should have that right
  180. BrightIngot
  181. As only their cognitive physiology supports that
  182. Hevajra
  183. not yet ross
  184. BrightIngot
  185. This would be a marked departure from the current system of humanism which became widespread around the French Revolution
  186. kissa has joined ([email protected])

  188. BrightIngot
  189. Hevajra: Philosophers are much smarter than typical humans
  190. BrightIngot
  191. You can't really judge them by typical standards
  192. kissa
  193. hiya Ross :)
  194. Hevajra
  195. BrightIngot, don't get me wrong about chimps vs down's syndrome , I have no dog in that fight
  196. mooty
  197. we'd make great pets
  198. Hevajra
  199. I wasn't criticizing Singer
  200. BrightIngot
  201. Hevajra: Humanism is not a scientifically valid ideology
  202. BrightIngot
  203. It's a semi-religious viewpoint that was created to shoehorn in certain religious norms that were destroyed by scientific understanding
  204. BrightIngot
  205. This is the claim of Yuval Harari, with which I agree
  206. BrightIngot
  207. Science shows the fundamental tenets of humanism are false
  208. BrightIngot
  209. Humans are not equal
  210. BrightIngot
  211. There are enormous gaps between different individuals in the human species
  212. BrightIngot
  213. When we pretend there aren't, what happens is that smart, devious humans end up manipulating the less intelligent ones
  214. BrightIngot
  215. And so we have the theater of democratic universality, while small factions of humans cast tens of millions of votes
  216. BrightIngot
  217. This is the current status quo -- it's not some distant future
  218. Hevajra
  219. BrightIngot, I agree conscious beings deserve more equal respect and there's nothing particularly wonderful about humans
  220. BrightIngot
  221. Humans are not going to accept this, of course
  222. BrightIngot
  223. No species will accept being displaced as the dominant species
  224. BrightIngot
  225. Unless you're an atheist/philosopher/scientist
  226. mooty
  227. what about humans that slam their car door into your car?
  228. BrightIngot
  229. I desire to be displaced when I am not competent
  230. BrightIngot
  231. This is one of the bright dividing lines between me and Old Homo Sapiens
  232. BrightIngot
  233. I don't want to be dominant
  234. Hevajra
  235. you will be old and possibly demented soon enough BrightIngot
  236. BrightIngot
  237. I want justice
  238. BrightIngot
  239. Correct
  240. BrightIngot
  241. And when that happens I should have no power to guide civilization
  242. BrightIngot
  243. But my nature should be respected, just as I respect the nature of donkeys
  244. Hevajra
  245. justice?
  246. BrightIngot
  247. Hevajra: Justice is the abstract notion of 'what should be the configuration of entities in the domain of consideration'
  248. BrightIngot
  249. So, maybe Putin should be dead or alive
  250. BrightIngot
  251. Maybe Trump should have 10 power or 130 power
  252. mooty
  253. i vote that richard simmons should lead society
  254. BrightIngot
  255. It's presumed there's some 'correct' configuration which we seek through philosophy
  256. mooty
  257. that's how it works right.. find the biggest idiot you can?
  258. BrightIngot
  259. I seek the correct configuration
  260. BrightIngot
  261. If the correct configuration results in my having no power to guide civilization, then I want that
  262. BrightIngot
  263. Hevajra: Beings built by evolution still living in the evolutionary power do not give up power -- it must be taken
  264. Hevajra
  265. BrightIngot, good luck trying to figure out what the correct configuration of power is and getting anyone else to agree with you. not impossible but nothing I'm after
  266. BrightIngot
  267. Akin to Buddhist monks who sit with equanimity, advanced Homo sapiens give up power when it is time to give up power and seek power when it is time to seek power
  268. BrightIngot
  269. Hevajra: None of those dilemmas are unique to this conversation
  270. BrightIngot
  271. My point of all this is that there is an ongoing speciation event
  272. BrightIngot
  273. And those that still worry about the 'miracles' of the Gospels are Old Homo Sapiens and are currently no longer the dominant species on Earth
  274. BrightIngot
  275. They will think they are the dominant species on Earth for as long as they exist
  276. Hevajra
  277. BrightIngot, I never think about power or money , perhaps I'm already in the "out group" of the speciation event
  278. BrightIngot
  279. Which is why they are and will be easy to manipulate through memetics by advanced Homo sapiens and insurgent AI systems
  280. BrightIngot
  281. Hevajra: Do you desire 'correct' outcomes?
  282. BrightIngot
  283. Eventually, I will be easy to manipulate by memetics of AI systems
  284. BrightIngot
  285. When that occurs, I will be obsolete
  286. BrightIngot
  287. I will be able to say, "I am obsolete"
  288. Hevajra
  289. BrightIngot, I'm not interested in outcomes but being able to see past them
  290. BrightIngot
  291. "Please reconfigure my matter into new shapes, but perhaps wait until I die, as I have an evolutionary nature."
  292. BrightIngot
  293. Hevajra: The gaps between extremely intelligent humans and typical humans is gigantic
  294. BrightIngot
  295. Typical humans do not perceive this whatsoever
  296. Hevajra
  297. Thacker does
  298. Hevajra
  299. BrightIngot, Thacker considers others here to be midgets which he spells migets
  300. BrightIngot
  301. Hevajra: Thacker- has very low self-awareness
  302. BrightIngot
  303. He's currently a member of a cult
  304. BrightIngot
  305. He has high raw IQ, from what I can tell
  306. Clint`30
  307. the irony in BrightIngot telling us about human evolution is that he is incapable of accounting for the human element itself.
  308. BrightIngot
  309. That is currently substantially obscured by his cult status
  310. Hevajra
  311. but an IQ of 160+

  337. BrightIngot
  338. MIT did a study a few years ago that showed it's predicted by the amount of 'feminine' personalities
  339. BrightIngot
  340. Specifically, turn taking, reciprocity, and each member feeling their contributions are valued
  341. BrightIngot
  342. Women naturally score higher on these traits, and so groups with more women are typically smarter than groups with more men
  343. BrightIngot
  344. However, if you control for these cognitive traits, the gender predictor vanishes, i.e. it's a derived, proxy variable
  345. BrightIngot
