- from /hhg/ Helluva Hotel general #662.2
- --------------
- Hazbin Hotel, but they're all overlords, and Charlie's trying to get them to work together, and eke out some peace in Pentagram for her Hotel project to take off.
- What are they're in charge of, and how are their designs different.
- >Vaggie
- >Angel
- >Husk
- >Niffty
- >Katie
- >Tom
- >Baxter
- As far as we know, Alastor, Mimzy and Rosie are either overlords or do not have to concern themselves with turf wars, so they don't count.
- We also don't know enough about Crymini, so she's out for now as well.
- In the same vein, Helluva Boss, but rather than being a lowly assassin agency, they're all the leaders of a cartel of businesses in Imp City, rivaling some nobles like Stolas in terms of influence.
- -
- >Husk
- We've already speculated that he's a lower level overlord vassaled to Alastor like a feudal knight to a duke and the casino in the background of some of the shots is his. In the scenario where he an overlord-overlord, he be "The Gambling Demon", the demon tied most closely to that concept, running almost all the gaming in Pentagram City the way Val is the biggest porn producer and Vox is the TV mogul.
- -
- that seems like a bit of a stretch
- -
- Fair enough, there are probably other feline demons who could own the place.
- -
- i feel like cats and gamblin dont really fit together
- -
- Ehhhh i mean you can use damn near anything as a mascot for your casino. I just noticed that the Jackpot Casino's neon sign seems to resemble Husk alot and figured he must have something to do with it
- -
- maybe its just another carryover symptom that hazbin has a lot of
- quite a bit of reachin to connect her already existin character designs to hazbin as it is today
- -
- Wouldn't it be the other way around? Husk's design hasn't changed much since he was originally created before the show aired, so the casino in the pilot would have been designed to match him
- -
- Not really in the design sense. Usually when you design a character you design around their character traits and significance in the story. Those are the things that changed the most over the course of development. So Alastor's was change to accommodate his new role in the story but they still had to keep his design in some grounding similar to the original. Am I making sense? Am I just crazy?
- ---
- That's a good start.
- What about the others?
- -
- Hmmmmm I'm having trouble thinking of anything good. Vaggie in particular is a hurdle, because we don't know much about her canon interests other than that she likes Charlie, supports her project, and has a pretty fierce disposition. All I can think of for her being overlord level in power is as more of a rogue, chaotic element, like Alastor, rather than a territory-holding gang lord type. Maybe something like the head vigilante of some part of the city, given that she spits the line "I'm not gonna let you hurt anyone here" etc etc at Al when he first makes his appearance
- -
- I like the vigilante idea, especially since it would essentially cause her to be a warped mirror image of Alastor, in a kind of Batman-Joker relationship.
- ---
- Niffty could easily be a minor overlord running a cleaning service (which also does carnage-cleanup and money laundering - if money even needed to be laundered in Hell), and her relying on stitched-together mannequins built like bouncers as her thralls.
- Angel could be just an extension of his mafia family, running a localized gang of whores and bandits - a bit more anarchic than the rest of the family, but nothing special beyond that.
- Baxter is a drug manufacturer, and the more calmer, calculating version of the mad scientist trope that Sir Pentious embodies.
- Less industry and conquest, more subversion and experimentation.
- With Vaggie, it depends on her background. If she's just a knife-wielding ex-prostitute, then she's basically just a more serious version of Cherri Bomb, with a gang one rank lower than Angel's syndicate.
- If she is from war-thorn El Salvador, then she's a full-blown Subcommandante Marcos-type guerilla leader, who's actively trying to take control over at least a portion of the city, mainly to kick out all the exploitative businesses, and give sinners somewhere safe to live.
- Katie could easily be an "Mass Media" overlord - not as omnipresent as Vox, but more like holding one half of his empire, comprised of the pre-internet media (kinda like the blonde chick from American Gods), whilst Velvet holds the other half.
- And Tom is just a straight-up warlord. Similar to Sir Pent in terms of technology (laser-accented WWI-era tech), but more serious and cynical.
- ---
- I think I might be crazy. I was just referencing how this sign in the background of the pilot looks alot like Husk
- -
- wwhat the fuck
- wwhen does this evven showw up
- -
- It's on the side of the shot right near the end of Always Chasing Rainbows, right around when you see the sinner picking corpses up off the street. Shows up in the background of a few other shots as well, but this one is the most detailed. I figured that it was Husk's place, especially since Alastor seems to have teleported him straight out of a casino, taking a few pieces of it along with him. The idea of Husk being a second tier overlord shackled to a first tier one came from someone else questioning why Alastor would want Niffty and Husk at his disposal and the answer being suggested that those two are quite capable in their own right and therefore useful to him when he needs them. Basically they're the Gordon Freeman and Adrian Shepherd to Alastor's G-man
- -
- Aren't there only ten overlords? I find the idea of overlord tiers interesting, but I doubt it really exists.
- --
- They've only shown us about 10, doesn't appear to be any reason for that to be a hard cap.
- --
- There could be countless. They're not like the Goetian demons, who are limited in number.
- -
- I just figured with how prestigious a title it seems to be, being an overlord would be a big deal, hence why there's so few of them.
