  9. Well, here we go again. More New Year's political dirty tricks.
  10.
  11. Shame on the former mayor for vetoing legislation that would have protected the Hillside and Beman Park, neighborhoods which people worked so hard to reclaim, from commercial expansion. This means destabilizing the neighborhoods, tearing down residences and losing property taxes (because we know darn well the commercial entities will all get tax abatements, if not outright gifts - think Bomber's and Dinosaur)

  13. Knowing Patrick Madden, I have high hopes that he will be his own man and will resist being manipulated as was his predecessor.

  21. Yup. He waited until New Year’s Eve.
  22.
  23. Lou Rosamilia took a undemocratic and unkind parting shot by vetoing legislation passed 6-3 by the city council that would have strengthened neighborhoods and helped keep box stores, student housing complexes, parking lots and drive thru's at bay in the Hillside and Beman Park.
  24.
  25. By vetoing at the end of business on the last day of the year Rosamilia made sure the city council could not convene to override the veto. (Which they had the votes to do.)
  26.
  27. Lou could have vetoed this weeks ago, but deliberately waited until last night. That is undemocratic, un-American and a symbol of the political ills of this city. I hope the new administration will breathe fresh air into our sick system.
  28.
  29. Good news: Dean Bodnar, Bob Doherty, Carmella Mantello and Mark McGrath have already voiced their support for Local Law #2. We unfortunately have to go through a whole lot more procedural rigmarole to get it passed again. The new council apparently cannot override the veto of a previous mayor. (Apparently.)
  30.
  31. Please remember the people who worked behind the scenes against this zoning change, particularly:
  32.
  33. Bill Dunne
  34. Lynn Kopka
  35. Ian Silverman
  36.
  37. I will keep you updated on next steps. Happy New Year, despite this despicable action.
  38.
  39. Jim
