  4.
  5. Larry Little: Hi everybody, thank you for joining us and happy Friday I'm Larry little.
  6.
  7. Marianna Moles: And I'm Marianna Moles.
  8.
  9. LL: For now, COVID-19 has changed the world as we know it and Mother's Day will be a little bit different this year especially here in Santa Clara County where the shelter-in-place order is still extended, has been extended to the end of May.
  10.
  11. MM: Yeah, I do believe this is the very first year I will not be seeing my mother in person for Mother's Day and that's going to be a little weird. You know because our family, we do up really big. Our aunts, uncles, cousins, we all come together for the entire day we eat lots of food. Usually, it's gorgeous outside so we spend the entire day outdoors but we won't be doing that this year because you know it's our turn to protect our mother's health. She's been texting protecting our health for years and now it's our turn to stay home.
  12.
  13. LL: Yeah, Mary and I believe my mother, she understands doctor Cody's orders because there were plenty of times when I was growing up she told me to stay in the house.
  14.
  15. MM: I think we can all relate to that.
  16.
  17. LL: So, in the spirit a Mother's Day a few mom's, which includes Supervisors Chavez and Ellenberg, have put together a special video message for us.
  18.
  19. MM: Let's take a look.
  20.
  21. Grandmother: (Speaking in Cantonese) Happy Mother’s Day! I wish you all good health as we stand together against this disease.
  22.
  23. DeOnna DeGruy: Hi! My name is DeOnna DeGruy, I work at the EOC Command Center.
  24.
  25. Dalia Rodriguez: My name is Dalia Rodriguez. I'm a captain with the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office Working usually at the Special Operations at Civil Divisions.
  26.
  27. Jenny Lam: Hi! My name is Jenny Lam I'm an attorney assigned to the EOC.
  28.
  29. Sergeant Shannon Catalano: I'm Shannon Catalano, I'm a sergeant assigned to the Cold Case Unit, Homicide Unit, and Investigative Services at the Sheriff's Office.
  30.
  31. Sheriff Lauri Smith: Sheriff Laurie Smith: Hi, this is Sheriff Laurie Smith and I want to wish everyone a very happy Mother's Day.
  32.
  33. ASL Interpreter: We're all looking forward to Mother's Day this Sunday.
  34.
  35. Mom 1: Like just about everything else, Mother's Day will be different this year.
  36.
  37. Larry’s Mom: I would love to have all my children home for Mother's Day, but I know that's impossible. But just having the opportunity to hear their voices over the phone and knowing that they are alive and well. That's a blessing.
  38.
  39. Mom 2: (Speaking in Spanish) What I would like for Mother's Day instead of visiting in person, that my children give me a video call to give us hugs and kisses.
  40.
  41. Grandmother: (Speaking in Cantonese) On Mother’s Day, we will all have a gathering via FaceTime and will be very happy.
  42.
  43. JL: For this Mother's Day, I hope that as a mother of young children, all the kiddos out there will stay home, sleep in late, take lots of naps, and clean their rooms!
  44.
  45. Cindy Chavez: I think I just want two things; I want everybody to be safe, I want my mom to know how grateful I am for her because she's an amazing woman, and I'm blessed that my son's home.
  46.
  47. DR: For this Mother's Day, let's be safe and stay home by celebrating with your mom, enjoying a nice breakfast, doing a nice walk.
  48.
  49. DG: We will do something a little different, we will garden, we will BBQ, and we will FaceTime with our friends and our families that are far away.
  50.
  51. SSC: My hope is that you'll join me in being a mom, helping save other moms, by staying home and celebrating indoors with their family.
  52.
  53. Mom 2: (Speaking in Spanish) Due to our current situation, we can't do it in person. We will have more time to do what we want to do in the future.
  54.
  55. Grandmother: (Speaking in Cantonese) My children and grandchildren are all sheltering in place at their own homes that actually makes me feel relieved. At the same time, I also feel the love and care they have for me.
  56.
  57. Mom 1: Share a meal by phone, play trivia games, tell funny stories. Anything that you can do using the phone or technology.
  58.
  59. ASL Interpreter: Let's protect our mothers and honor them by keeping them safe.
  60.
  61. (Speaking in Spanish) You too, do your part by staying at home!
  62.
  63. Mom 1: This year, the very best Mother's Day gift you can give your mom is to stay home.
  64.
  65. DG: So, stay home, stay safe, and happy Mother's Day.
  66.
  67. SLM: Everybody, have an enjoyable Mother's Day.
  68.
  69. DR: I wish all of the mothers, happy Mother's Day.
  70.
  71. JL: Happy Mother's Day!
  72.
  73. CC: Happy Mother's Day!
  74.
  75.
  76. LL: Thanks to all the moms who participated in the video you just saw.
  77.
  78. MM: That was powerful.
  79.
  80. LL: Yeah very much so.
  81.
  82. MM: Was that your mom in there?
  83.
  84. LL: Yeah now she thinks she's famous.
  85.
  86. MM: Well it sounds like she wants you to give her a call. [Laughter] Maybe you can pick up the phone.
  87.
  88. LL: I'll think about it. [Laughter] So I know the weather it's gonna be gorgeous this Sunday and it will be very tempting to keep with tradition and make that visit to your mom's house.
  89.
  90. MM: Yeah, so my sisters and I, you know, we're going to be seeing my mom virtually, over video chat because we know that the best gift that we can give her right now is to really stay at home which feels a little strange not to see her. But that's really the best thing we can do and we have other colleagues who are getting creative with how they are also expressing their love to their mothers. One of our colleagues, Colleen, has put together a puzzle with all of her kid’s photos on there and she mailed that to her mother, take a look at that. Is that up on the screen? Awesome. And then we have, let me take a look. Okay. And then we have Eydie, she also put together these gorgeous handmade cards that she sent to all of the mother figures in her life too. So, we're all getting creative here. Making sure that we don't see anybody in person because if you if you don't live with somebody, you shouldn't be spending any time in person with them.
  91.
  92. LL: And thanks to technology, you know, we can do a FaceTime, we can do a voice call, or zoom family meeting so there are plenty of things to do to substitute for this COVID-19 Mother's Day. MM: Or just pick up the phone you know your mother wants to hear from you.
  93.
  94. LL: Telephone?
  95.
  96. MM: What's that? A telephone?
  97.
  98. LL: So, we want to remind you if you do have to go out remember to practice social distancing and also, we request that, it's recommended that, you wear a facial covering when you go out in public.
  99.
  100. MM: For essential activities.
  101.
  102. LL: Yes, and at the beginning of the show we were wearing up facial coverings and we removed them so the American Sign Language interpreters could communicate the information properly for you today.
  103.
  104. MM: And we just want to leave you with one sobering thought while we have made enormous progress in our fight against COVID-19, we, as Dr. Sarah Cody says often, are not out of the woods yet. We are still seeing new cases and you can see the dashboard with the data on our website. So, we don't want to, you know, lose that progress that we've made. So, Sunday is really about our mothers. Let's really, truly make it about them by staying home and doing what is best for them and for us and protecting each other's health.
  105.
  106. LL: Absolutely. We also want to take this time to acknowledge those without a mother. We know this can be a very difficult time for you and we also want to recognize individuals who had a different family structure but possibly had a mother figure in their lives.
  107.
  108. MM: Hope all of you will celebrate at home this Sunday. Happy Mother's Day!
  109.
  110. LL: Thanks for watching we'll see you next time.
