- OOT 100% three step process (direct cause)
- The direct cause of obtaining an item, is the action before obtaining the item, opening chest -> get item, trigger cs -> get item.
- When seeing if items are gotten legit we look at the direct cause:
- Slingshot
- 1: Open Chest in Deku Tree
- 2: Obtain Slingshot
- Mirror Shield:
- 1: Trigger Chest
- 2: Open Chest
- 3: Obtain Mirror Shield
- Both of these are two intended ways to get the items, if we dive further into the matter and
- take a look at item upgrades:
- Slingshot 50:
- 1: Play Game
- 2: Obtain SeedBag 50
- We can skip SeedBag 40 because we only need to obtain the "Best" upgrade the intended way.
- "also why only the best upgrade is required is because the game deletes previous upgrades as if they never existed" Zas 2016
- So if we go into the Nocturne of Shadows
- N64:
- 1: Have Forest, Fire and Water Medallions and Enter Kakariko from Hyrule field as adult
- 2: Watch Cutscene/Trigger CS
- 3: Obtain Nocturne
- VC:
- 1: Wrong Warp from either Deku or DC
- 2: Watch Half the CS/Trigger CS
- 3: Obtain Nocturne
- We can clearly see here that the step before obtaining the item is the correct way, atleast partly.
- The reason RBAing Medalions and Songs aren't allowed. Obtaining the item to RBA does not count as a step
- because it's not connected to the obtained items directly.
- 1: RBA Odd Potions
- 2: Get Songs & Stones
- While this is giving you the songs, the direct cause of getting them is not the intended way.
- If we look at Obtaining medallions
- 1: Activate Warp
- 2: Watch CS/Skip CS (Which still triggers the CS)
- 3: Obtain Medalion
- We can clearly see that we have triggered the event that gives us the Medalion.
- Beating the game:
- 1: Last stab on ganon
- 2: Credits
- 3: The end screen
- 1: WW
- 2: Credits
- 3: The end screen
- both of these does indeed start the credits, and does both lead to giving us the end screen.
