As per necessity, wizards across the world gladly sacrifice valuable reagents to cast spells. Sedim are almost universally remiss to do away with items of value, and those who take wizardry study a workaround solution.

Weapon and Armour Proficiency
Gemseekers are not proficient with heavy crossbows or light crossbows, and are proficient with shortbows and longbows.

Preservation of the Precious
At 1st level, a gemseeker gains the ability to preserve valuable spell components. Once per day, when a gemseeker casts an arcane spell that requires a gem, jewel, or other precious stone or metal, they may choose to make the component survive the casting process. This causes the component to dull, losing two fifths of its original value and preventing it from being used again as a spell component.

This ability replaces Scribe Scroll.
