  1. War of the Spark spoilers, take it with a grain of salt
  2.
  3. Niv-Mizzet is killed by Bolas before the story begins in the book. The intention was to unite the guilds which would empower Niv enough to take on Bolas. But Vraska kills Isperia at the summit causing everything to fall apart and Niv fights Bolas severely underpowered and is annihilated.
  4.
  5. Vraska had her memory restored by a Golgari character off-screen. So Vraska had her memory back when the guild summit began but she still kills Isperia out of spite and hatred for the things that happened in the past. Vraska then planeswalks back to her pirate buddies on Ixalan and only returns after the Immortal Sun is deactivated, leaving the Golgari in disarray and not involved in anything in the meantime.
  6.
  7. Dack is one of the point of view characters in the book actually. You really get sympathy for him (at least I did) and he decides to be brave and stay to help the good cause even though he gets a chance to escape Ravnica a couple of times. He then dies in battle.
  8.
  9. Domri is rather pathetic in the book and dies like two or three pages after being introduced. A small party of main characters is cornered by a force of Eternals and saved when a group of Gruul attack the Eternals from the back. Domri introduces himself as the Gruul leader, acting like a brat. Shortly after that they see the elemental Vitu-Ghazi (which has just brought down the Bolas statue) getting decimated by the four God-Eternals who have just entered Ravnica and Domri is so awed by that he abruptly declares "Lads, we are now fighting for the dragon's side!".
  10.
  11. Half the Gruul are so disgusted by this they tell him they are going back to Borborygmos and walk away. Domri and his remaining Gruul then rush to Bolas yelling he is declaring for him, only to immediately get completely butchered and a begging and whimpering Domri gets his spark ripped out.
  12.
  13. Tezzeret is on the Amonkhet side opening the portal. A commando squad of planeswalkers goes through the portal, rather easily beats him, and they destroy the portal which is built-in into his body. He then goes on to actually congratulate the planeswalkers on their achievement as this is in his opinion an actual setback for Bolas's plans, tells them he doesn't like the dragon anyway and planeswalks away not to be seen again.
  14.
  15. Rhonas gets destroyed by Gideon using the Blackblade. Kefnet gets destroyed by Niv Mizzet who gets resurrected.
  16.
  17. Right at the end of the trailer where Liliana seems to die Gideon grabs her from behind and grants her his gift of invulnerability, basically exchanging it (permanently) for the pact with which Bolas is killing and holding power over Liliana. She begs him to not do it and let her die but he tells her he believes in her and she needs to be the one before going to ashes.
  18.
  19. Liliana proceeds to defeat Bolas by having Bontu bite him, causing him to lose his spark. Gids then gets an afterlife scene akin to how Gladiator ends, but with him and his irregulars.
  20.
  21. Oketra gets destroyed by Bolas after being set at him by Liliana. Bontu ends up getting destroyed too along with all the Eternals.
  22.
  23. When Bolas is about to be killed after losing his spark Ugin telepathically tells Jace Bolas can't be allowed to die there because he would resurrect again and end up being a threat again in the long run.
  24.
  25. Jace then creates an illusion for everyone on Ravnica showing them Bolas dies. Ugin takes a sparkless mortal Bolas to the Meditation Realm, which was originally his and not Bolas's, having transformed it back to his realm. There a conversation follows and he tells Bolas they will remain there for the rest of Bolas's days with him being his watcher.
  26.
  27. Sorin and Nahiri are only mentioned as being spotted fighting eachother on a rooftop and the others thinking "wtf are they doing", and one more time later on during the final assault as being present and behaving for the time being.
  28.
  29. Kiora, Tamiyo, Narset, Jiang Yanggu & Mu Yanling and Tibalt are mentioned one or two times but don't actually do anything.
  30.
  31. The Wanderer, Davriel, Arlinn and Huatli have some fighting scenes vs the Eternals but that's it.
  32.
  33. Angrath basically is an ally to the good guys from the beginning and does some heavy fighting because "this is the second time he is trapped on a plane because of the Immortal Sun and he wants to go back to his family". He still isn't nice to the other characters though.
  34.
  35. Ashiok is only mentioned once as a sidenote to something unrelated to the story. Kasmina isn't mentioned anywhere at all I think.
  36.
  37. Sarkhan Vol has a minor support role on Amonkhet that is nevertheless crucial to defeating Bolas, joining the fight against Tezzeret.
  38.
  39. Dovin is guarding the Immortal Sun... all by himself but with hundreds of thopters. No other Azorius guards anywhere even though the Sun is located at the Azorius Hq. He is defeated by Lazav posing as Chandra (the scene shown on Chandra's Triumph) and planeswalks away once the Immortal Sun is destroyed.
  40.
  41. Rakdos isn't featured that much but during he end battle he serves as a flying ride for Gideon after Gideon's Pegasus gets shot down by Oketra. Bolas simply swats Rakdos when he attacks him but Gideon makes his "Desperate Lunge" jumping off Rakdos's head actually.
  42.
  43. When Gideon strikes Bolas with the Blackblade it just shatters and does nothing to Bolas. Turns out Bolas devised the entire Blackblade prophecy to punk the Gatewatch into thinking they had a major weapon against him, and even puppeteered them into killing Liliana's last demon with it so he could gain full control over her. He had made sure it couldn't hurt him/another Elder Dragon ever again a long time ago.
  44.
  45. In the end Bolas is defeated by a bunch of factors. First of all he is so preoccupied with all these Sparks he is absorbing to pay enough attention to what else is going on. He only gets involved a limited number of times during the fighting and never leaves his perch above his citadel throughout the story.
  46.
  47. After Gideon's failed attempt Liliana decides she would rather die than help Bolas win and forever be his puppet, so she turns against him sending all the Eternals at him, including Oketra and Bontu. Bolas obliterated Oketra, but the resurrected Niv Mizzet then surprises him out of nowhere and stabs him with Hazoret's spear which she gifts to the good guys when they are on Amonkhet to shut the Planar Bridge down. The spear is able to wound Bolas because he himself created it and inserted a small fraction of his own power in it. Because of this distraction a Liliana-controlled Bontu manages to bite him, and an Eternal only has to touch a planeswalker to harvest their spark, so Bolas loses his spark. He manages to kill Bontu even after that, so he's not totally powerless, but he can't planeswalk and is also badly wounded from Niv Mizzet's attack, allowing Ugin to subdue him.
