  1. Went 5-3 in the Modern Classic today with 5C Ham Sandwich aka Trade Binder Tribal aka Eldritch Evolution. Didn't even top 32 but I wanted to make a tournament report for myself anyways to refer to later, and I figured since the deck is interesting some other people might want to read it for the lulz

  57. The decklist was changed sort of last minute. Initially the Bloodbraid Elfs were sideboard, and the Magus of the Moon was mainboard. I eventually decided that I rather have a Qasali Pridemage over the Magus, I can't remember exactly what I had over the Elves in the mainboard but I think it was 1x Renegade Rallier, 1x The Gitrog Monster, 1x Wilt Leaf Liege, and 1 more card that was cut from the 75 that I can't remember.
  58.
  59. Overall, I actually like how the deck functioned. I do think there needs to be another top end card at the 4 cmc slot or that does something different than just beat face. The Qasali Pridemage was actually not that great in the mainboard, and every game that I wanted the Magus of the Moon were matchups where I felt that I needed the first game to even have a chance in the match overall. Ramanup Excavator might be a nice middle ground. Ob Nixilis, the Fallen was actually insane. I never actually had him in hand. He has the ability to close the game very quickly, generally if not on the spot, then the next turn the game is over. I don't believe he ever got targeted by a Path to Exile or other relevant removal spell today.

  63. Sideboard Card performance review:
  64. =====
  65. ===
  66.
  67. Linvala, Keeper of Silence: 2/5, didn't come in for very many match ups, was best against Affinity when it prevented a top decked Arcbound Ravager from being relevant, but by then I think the game was already pretty locked down.
  68.
  69. Thalia, Guardian of Thraben: 3/5, was nice against burn since I dropped it on turn 2 and it gave me a lot of time to stabilize. Was also ok against control, but not the greatest. Not sure if it's worth a spot in this particular deck though, since it's not a good Eldritch Evolution target.
  70.
  71. Kitaki, War's Wage: 5/5, it's a good card against affinity, don't know what else to say.
  72.
  73. Reveillark: 1/5, came in against control but it didn't do anything.
  74.
  75. Shlai, Voice of Plenty: 4/5 Was honestly just a moderately strong card for the match ups it came in for, but it was great in a lot of match ups. Strongly considering moving this to mainboard.
  76.
  77. Ramunap Excavator: ?/5 Came in for a few match ups but unfortunately never drew it, and it wasn't the correct choice when I had an Eldritch Evolution available.
  78.
  79. Thrun, the Last Troll: 2/5 Was very medium against control, it came a little late and by then they had a creature that could safely block it or plenty of tokens. No evasion set the bar pretty low for that.
  80.
  81. Thragtusk: 2.5/5 Was medium against control, and while it was insane against burn, the game was already locked up by the time I got it on the field. I chose to add it after going 0-4 against 2 burn opponents in Saturday side events, but today my deck functioned normally and won against burn by just playing Voices and Kitchen Finkses. Obviously great against Burn (and other hyper aggro decks) but I'm not sure if it's worth a spot considering how good my deck is against that specific archetype.
  82.
  83. Gaddock Teeg: 2/5 Not many combo opponents, and it's very medium against control. It's on my list of cuttable cards.
  84.
  85. Sigarda, Host of Herons: 3.5/5 Was great against control, the bottom text ended up being flavor text today, but the Flying Hexproof body was great.
  86.
  87. Magus of the Moon: 1/5 Overall pretty disappointing. Bought me a Turn Against my Titanshift opponent but just ate a bolt. There were a few match ups where my non-red opponents were fetching a lot of nonbasics, and I feel like I could have abused that game one, but it wouldn't be worth a Eldritch Evolution game two or three so I kept him in the sideboard for the most part.
  88.
  89. Caldera Hellion: ?/5 Only came in out of the sideboard in a few match ups, but I won before I could even play him. Didn't have too many match ups in general where it was relevant either.
  90.
  91. Izzet Staticaster: 5/5 Absolutely insane, won me a lot of games. It could be a main board candidate, but the card is either very good or very bad.
  92.
  93. Keranos, God of Storms: 5/5 While he is slow and grindy, he absolutely took over games he was relevant in. Another contender for main board, but it does make my mana even more awkward than it already is by making me have to be mindful of another color main board, but he's very strong.
  94.
  95. Phyrexian Revoker: 3/5, did some work but was never game winning. Linvala does the same thing but for all creatures, but Revoker helps me with problematic Planeswalkers/Permanents so I might try and find a more specific, impactful solution for those.

  99. Matches
  100. =====
  101. ===
  102.
  103. Match 1: Mardu Pyromancer 2-0
  104.
  105. Game 1: Win
  106. I get in for a few points of damage with a Kitchen Finks and a Knight of the Reliquary but my opponent starts to stabilize with Young Pyromancer and tokens. I top deck a Eldritch Evolution, sac my Finks and find a Ob Nixilis, the Fallen, play a fetch I was holding and activate KotR for another fetch and that's lethal.
  107.
  108. Game 2: Win
  109. I keep a somewhat risky hand with 2 Hierarchs, 2 Eldritch Evolutions, and 2 Lands. I quickly get punished by a few hand disruption spells, but my opponent also had few threats so I had time to draw out. I top deck a Kitchen Finks into another Eldritch Evolution to find a Keranos. I use that to kill his Pyromancers which he has since drawn and played. My opponent continues to generate tokens via Lingering Souls and clocks me down to 3 but I manage to draw a Izzet Staticaster to deal with my opponent's Lingering Souls tokens and then a Scavenging Ooze to gain enough life and present a clock, and from there I just grind my opponent out.
  110.
  111. ====
  112. Match 2: Affinity 2-1
  113.
  114. Game 1: Loss
  115. He draw is nutty and mine is a little awkward so he kills me.
  116.
  117. Game 2: Turn 1 I drop a Hierarch and then turn 2 I Eldritch Evolution it into a Kitaki, which slows my opponent down significantly. He had a Arcbound Ravager and a Vault Skirg though, so he sets up a clock with a 5/5 Vault Skirg, which I have no real answer to. So I start ghost quartering his few lands until he can no longer pay for Vault Skirg and is left with 0 permanents and win.
  118.
  119. Game 3: Turn 1 I drop a Hierarch and then turn 2 I Eldritch Evolution it into a Izzet Staticaster this time since my opponent had played 2 man lands and not many actual artifacts so Kitaki wouldn't be that effective. He then drops a Etched Champion and I path it, since he didn't have metalcraft. Later I learned this was actually a bait since my opponent had no red mana but he Aether Grid, Galvanic Blast, and Whipflare in hand, as well as another Champion. I Eldritch Evolution some creature for Linvala, to try and race his Champion, and prevent a random Arcbound Ravager from buffing it. My opponent then top decks a Arcbound Ravager. Qasali Pridemage and Renegade Ralliers helps slow my opponent down and I manage to win the race.
  120.
  121. ===
  122. Match 3: Burn 2-0
  123.
  124. I thought this match up was pretty much a bye given my 4 mainboard Kitchen Finkses, 4 mainboard Voice of Resurgences, and 4 Eldritch Evolutions, but losing to Burn twice in a row on Saturday made me wary. I think that was a fluke though since I felt very in control of these matches.
  125.
  126. Game 1: Win
  127. I play a lot of Voices and a couple of Kitchen Finkses and stabilize easily.
  128.
  129. Game 2: Win
  130. Turn 2 I play a Kitchen Finks, into a Shlai Turn 3, and a Scooze turn 5 seals the game. I do almost get Deflecting Palm'd here but it misses lethal by 1 and I Scavenging Ooze to gain 3 life and Eldrtich Evolution a voice to gain 2 more off a Kitchen Finks. Need to remember to play around Deflecting Palm.
  131.
  132. ===
  133. Match 4: Esper Control 1-2
  134.
  135. Game 1: He has hand disruption and removes all my threats early and I just can't draw any significant threats and also stick them. Unfortunate lack of Bloodbraid Elves here.
  136.
  137. Game 2: I drop a lot of Kitchen Finkses, Voices, and Bloodbraid Elves and out value him.
  138.
  139. Game 3: I have a slower start and he controls the board. I draw some of my sideboard cards but they were not very effective in this particular match up. I wrote down in my notes that I should have mulligan'd for a faster hand with Bloodbraid Elves more aggressively here, but I forgot to write my actual hand I started with was.
  140.
  141. ===
  142. Match 5: Vizier Company 2-0
  143.
  144. Game 1: I go turn 1 dork, turn 2 finks, turn 3 Eldritch Evolution Ob nix, turn 4 lethal
  145.
  146. Game 2: I go turn 1 dork, turn 2 finks, turn 3 Eldritch Evolution Ob nix, turn 4 lethal
  147.
  148. ===
  149. Match 6: Burn 2-1
  150.
  151. Game 1: I have voices and some finks and I win
  152.
  153. Game 2: I play a dork on turn 1 and he Searing Blazes it on his turn 2 and I end up being too slow to deal with his burn.
  154.
  155. Game 3: I quickly get out of a scary burn range but then my opponent drops an Ensnaring Bridge. I, like an idiot, sided out Qasali Pridemage. However, my opponent is not empty handed, and I have a Thalia out and am not in immediate danger of being burned out. So I have to Eldritch Evolution for a Knight (I sided out Ob Nixilis as well) and go on a mana denial plan, targetting his white sources and hope that he gets stuck on white burn spells. I eventually manage to slowly sneak under bridge with Voices and win. Need to remember to side out Qasali Pridemages and not be afraid to just side out Knights.
  156.
  157. ===
  158. Match 7: Titanshift 0-2
  159.
  160. This is a match up I haven't tested with this deck but I feel like it's very poor. I didn't take notes on this since I was depressed about losing my win and in.
  161.
  162. Game 1: I try to apply some pressure but he has bolts and mainboard Obstinate Baloth so I can't get enough damage in and he eventually activates his Valakuts and drops a Primeval Titan.
  163.
  164. Game 2: Pretty similar to game 1, I do manage to drop a Gaddock Teeg to deal with his Scapeshift (Which I saw off a Bloodbraid Elf he cast game one) and also to bait a bolt, but he doesn't deal with it at all. I then follow up with a Eldritch Evolution for a Magus of the Moon but he immediately bolts that so I assume he sided out Scapeshift after game 1. I'm not too familiar with Titanshift lines so I'm sure I misplayed somewhere but I'm not too sure where. Apparently I also missed a draw step lol.
  165.
  166. ===
  167. Match 8: Mono-G Tron 1-2
  168.
  169. This match up is super bad. I have a land disruption package and Magus but they aren't fast enough clocks generally.
  170.
  171. Game 1: He 1 2 7s me on a mull to 5 and kills me
  172.
  173. Game 2: I Ghost Quarter him 3 times via Renegade Rallier and he scoops after I drop a Knight.
  174.
  175. Game 3: I slow him down by ghost quartering him something like 4 times via Renegade Ralliers and Knight, but he clearsw my threats with an O-Stone, and before I can fully rebuild and finish him off he continues to draw maps and Sylvan Scryings and eventually just kills me.
  176.

  179. Review:
  180. =====
  181. ===
  182.
  183. I lost to Esper Control, Titanshift, and Tron. I think I could have won the Esper Control match up if I drew slightly better and played a little tighter. TItanshift and Tron seems unwinnable without significant deck list changes. Plan on testing more with Titanshift to confirm that since I'm not too familiar with the match up and I might be able to find a way to get more % points somewhere. Tron might just be a match up that I concede and just hope to dodge in big tournaments.
  184.
  185. Sideboard needs a lot of work, really not satisfied with it. Ob Nixilis won me 3 games, (felt like more since each was so sweet) but I'm going to test other big win cons to see if anything is better.
  186.
  187. Also I thought it was a 9 round event, but I only have 8 matches in my notes so I might have missed a round, but I can't remember for the life of me what it might have been. Might also have just been 8 rounds and I am actually dumb.
