  38. History:
  39.
  40. Amelia Avington has a loving upbringing, though it was rather sheltered in the way she was brought up. But what she did not know didn’t harm her in that moment. She idealised her younger brother as soon as he was born, and did everything she could as a child to help her parents care for him.
  41.
  42. The war broke out in 1914. The awful, terrible war. Her brother instantly enrolled due to being to young, for he just lied about his age and continued on. Her father was not enrolled due to being a doctor, so he could stay at home. She pleaded for her brother to stay but he was adamant he had to go. And so he did.
  43.
  44. About a year or so later after her brother leaving for his new post, Amelia got tired waiting for her brother to write letters, and instead decided to actively help in the war effort. She left her studies to instead go join a nursing post, helping the wounded soldiers. Though due to living a previously sheltered childhood, the horrific wounds of war and gas terrified the young nurse. The shock of such injuries damaged her mentally, and she went home damaged.
  45.
  46. Home is where she found comfort. More specifically, in the fairy tales and books she used to read to her brother. Reading them over and over calmed her mind, and filled her with memories of better times. And so this would be her constant way of assuring herself.
  47.
  48. This continued on through her two years of working. But in the last year of the war, the letters stopped completely for two months. And once the final letter came to say he was killed during action. This sent Amelia over the edge, and she isolated herself once again. And, once again, she returned to the loving fairy tales to remind her of better times.
  49.
  50. Reciting the fairy tales seemed to have woken something within her. Like something above decided to give her a gift. Reading these things over and over seemed to ignite something - a hidden magic. It awakened within her. The determination for something better sparked something within her. The desire of a happy ending.
  51.
  52. The fairy tales helped her in a way she didn’t think it ever could. And though she could not have the fairy tale ending she wanted in saving her brother, or at least yet, she decided to use what she now knew to write her own fairy tale and her own happy ending.
  53.
  54. Likes: Fairy tales, literature, castles
  55.
  56. Dislikes: The sight of blood, the smell of sulphur, ruined books
