I went to community college for awhile back when I was around 19-20 years old. I had a very uptight American history professor. He was almost like an actor. Turns out he had a huge drug problem. One day in class he sat down, put his brief case on the table and just opened it. He pulled out some papers and then a fucking gun.

I'm not joking, not making this up, this 40~ year old professor with slicked-back blond hair just pulled out a black revolver in front of everyone. The entire class just looked at him, completely stunned for a moment. The first thing he said was "Don't be afraid. It's for me, not for you. I just want to ask you all a few questions before I put an end to my unhappiness. Take out a piece of paper and write about the best teacher you've ever had and why. Why do you think they teach? Don't make it about me. I'm not looking for pity."

You'd better believe we did exactly as he said. No one said a word to him. I remember my hands trembling as he asked me to get up to read what I'd wrote, which was about my high school art professor. For all the times I'd felt like a tough guy in my life, I had never been more afraid than this moment because of how random this guy acted. All the shit talking from high school, loving action movies, video games and it never prepared me for the fact something like this could happen. Nothing really prepares you for when someone you view as a stable authority-figure just turns on you. When I finished my speech, he said it was "very nice and beautiful." After about 2 more people read what they'd written, all of us nervous as hell, another professor came in, it was the college art professor. He put a hand on the shoulder of the history professor and asked him to calm down before taking the gun away and putting it into his pocket before the history professor burst into tears and put his head on the desk.

After a moment a few police came in, they didn't cuff him, he didn't resist, they just walked out. The president of the college came into the room after about 5 minutes and apologized for what had happened and assured us everything was under control. We'd all get A's and not have to show up for class again. In addition to his drug problems, turns out the professor that went psycho on us just got divorced by his wife and lost custody of his son.

TLDR; Professor almost killed himself because his wife and son left him, also pulled a gun out in class.
