- Reflector Mage - When we were first introduced to the game, a friend taught us with meta standard decks of the time. Azorius spirit control was the one we attached to the most of them all. (Spell Queller may have been more of a face, but we always remembered reflector mage more)
- Oketra the True - The first prerelease we went to had us getting a date-stamped promo of Oketra. It has been in a top-loader on display on our desk ever since.
- Verdant Catacombs - Still early on in the hobby, a friend convinced us on a trip to buy 6 expensive packs to play sealed with. Very funny now to remember playing on a hotel bed and thinking how much our pool sucked because half the rares were these dumb lands. (Each of them was at least 50$ at the time and our friend wanted to kill us)
- Ishkanah, Grafwidow - The very first commander deck we owned. Gifted to us during a reddit secret santa made entirely out of what the gifter had on hand at the time. Still one of the few decks we own in paper that has not been parted out.
- Adeliz, the Cinder Wind - Our first time playing standard was built around this card. Almost entirely because the deck was incredibly cheap minus the handful of dual lands, but a pile of common and uncommon wizards and burn spells and cantrips always does the trick nicely
- Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma - Probably one of if not my favorite limited experiences was playing in the local stores sealed league. You get a few packs to start and build a deck with what little you have. Play a quick tournament and by the end of it add another pack or two to your pool. Leave your cards with the store and come back every week for a month or so to repeat. Our first pull being Goreclaw here we just started grabbing all of the high cost cards we could find and ended up winning the league with a 5 color pile somehow
- God-eternal Oketra - We were out of town for the m20 prerelease and our first round opponent was a guy who, despite just getting laser eye surgery and playing completely blind for it, still refused to miss showing up. After the first round we ended up sitting next to him to read his cards to him so he would need to be less reliant on his opponent to keep up with game state. He was picking up a box of Japanese war if the spark to find some of the exclusive Planeswalker arts in them. Ended up pulling a god-eternal oketra from one of them and gifted it to us.
- Dragoon's Lance - Representative of a growing pile of draft chaff cards on my desk that were rescued from a life of living in a box with nothing to do to become bookmarks instead. Picking up a new book, getting a bit of a vibe for it, and trying to find a card around the house that matches that vibe has been a fun part of the reading process we look forward to. (This one is for Don Quixote, we just started)
- Bristle, Relentless Stormchaser (Balmor, Battlemage Captain) - A beautiful proxy card we were gifted by a friend. Representative of how we interact with the game nowadays. Most all of the decks we make now are decided based on if we can throw together an alt art of the card that we like. Playing exclusively on tabletop definitely helping that. Going all the way to making a fully custom border for cards as well now
