(From March 2015) MLP Season 5 Wishlist/Predictions/Ramble

(Originally written on March 23rd, 2015 - Now that Season 5 has ended, I thought it'd be fun to look back at my predictions/wishlist from March 2015 and see how far off or close or far I got.)


My Little Pony Season 5 is almost upon us, only 12 days to do as of this journal writing. It's hard to believe, I've been watching this show so long without any new episodes, it felt like new episodes were never coming, but now they finally are. Let me go on a quick tangent, I became a brony Sunday May 4th 2014, just before Season 4 ended, and then I had to endure an 11 month hiatus. Sure there was Rainbow Rocks in September, but the wait was hard regardless.

I suppose I may as well make this, since it's always fun to make wild guesses/wishlists before a new season and stuff. Normally I'm a bit against these, because what I worry will happen is that I'll be too on the look out for what I predicted/wished for, and will be disappointing when none of it happens and won't admire the episodes like I should. Regardless here's some thoughts for the sake of having thoughts.

Let's get the big one out of the way. "WILL THIS SEASON BE ANY GOOD?" Gosh I hope so, and I do think it will, I don't see why it won't, but without seeing any episodes of Season 5, we can't be sure. People said MLP went through seasonal rot during Season 3, but Season 4 seemed to crawl out of it which is uncommon. The only other show I can think of that's done that is Dan Vs., where Season 2 was randomly not as good as Seasons 1 and 3. Seasonal rot is an interesting topic, most people think it is caused simply by the sands of time, but it's more complicated than that. Time passing is an indirect cause that results in factors that can make a show bad, but usually it's specific circumstances for shows to go bad. Spongebob went bad because after the first movie, much of the original writing staff left the show, leaving new writers to suffer the wrath of that was Nickelodeon demanding more episodes quicker, resulting in a noticeable decline in quality of episodes. Dexter's Lab went through a similar fate after its revival. The Powerpuff Girls, well no one left per say, but creator Craig McCracken has said that by the end of the PPG's run, he and the current writing staff were fresh out of ideas. This can lead to either uninspired or dull new episodes by exhausted writers, or episodes written by new writers, which can lead to either episodes that don't fit the feel of the show, or still come across as dull, because these new writers may not know the show well enough, or have the passion the old writers did. Some shows seemed to be immune to seasonal rot like Hey Arnold, which never showed a steep decline in good episodes, and whose last season also happens to be my favorite. What does this have to do with MLP, I'm just saying, that any number of factors can cause seasonal rot, and as of now we don't know much of what's going on behind the scenes to tell. So to make a long story short, Season 5 will be good, I see no reason why it won't, it may feel like a continuation of Season 4, sort of like the relation between Seasons 1 & 2.

Now for my next desire: a really good Spike episodes. We kind of got this with Equestria games, actually that episode was great, but we need more. At least one or two good Spike episodes will make me happy. Spike is a character most people seem to hate just for the sake of hating. Most of it is really unjust, and comes from the fact that a lot of the time he can be a bit annoying, but I think it's also because many past Spike episodes have been on the lower spectrum. The first Equestria Girls movie had a really well written Spike, someone who supported Twilight as much as she supports him, season 4 did this a bit, Inspiration Manifestation was a great Spike episode, but I feel there's still much more you can do with Spike, or maybe not, we'll see.

Next: Awesome songs. This isn't so much a wish as it is something I'm really looking forward to. Daniel Ingram himself said on Twitter that Season 5 is his favorite in terms of songs, which gets me really excited. If we can get another "Smile", or "Bats", or a song driven episode like _Pinkie Pride_, that'd be amazing.

Prediction thing: An episode about Applejack's parents. I doubt they'll do this, but it'd be cool of they did something. Applejack's parents are strangely the ones never seen aside from Fluttershy, but we don't know much about her family. With AJ, she seems to be all about family, so it seems weird that her parents are never mentioned. If they can make a touching sad story about her parents, that'd be great. If they did a joke episode off this topic, that'd also be cool. Just something!

Thing: Will Sunset Shimmer be in Season 5? I high doubt it. They didn't bother putting her in Season 4, so I don't think they're going to. I really want to see Sunset Shimmer come back to Equestria and face Celestia and what she's done in the past, that'd make for a great episode, but I guess they only want to reserve her for the movies. If that's the case, then do something like this in EQG 3.

An episode where the Cutiemark Crusaders get their cutiemarks? I don't know if I want that. Well they're always gonna try to get them, that's their entire goal in life, but will this season be it? It'd be so odd though, if they did actually get their CMs, it's like if Eddy from Ed Edd n Eddy became rich, he'd have no motive to do anything or be the character we love so much. I've (unfortunately) seen a leak where Sweetie Belle might be getting it... or attempts to get it and comes close... I stopped looking into it when I realized that I wasn't looking at fan art, and realized I was looking at leaks. I doubt it will happen, but I don't think it's impossible. Just think, if it did, what's left for the CMC? What if Sweetie Belle gets her's, but Applebloom and Scootaloo don't, that'd make for an interesting episode, and I know I'm not the first to think of this. I'm just not sure if I'm ready for any long term change (though it's not like those haven't happened on the show before).

Will the other mane 6 become alicorn princesses? Not impossible, but it'd be dumb in my opinion. It'd make Equestria Girls 3 pretty awkward. Besides I think the biggest reason why not, is it'll make each of the mane 6 less special. Twilight's the main character, so I guess it's understandable why she gets to be the princess, but if all of them were princesses, than that's one less thing that separates them apart and make them unique. Isn't that what the Season 5 opener is about? Equality? Having something that sets you apart from others?

What do you think of the Season 5 opener? It looks cool, I hope it's great. Review will be posted hopefully the day it airs.

Will this season have an overarching plot like Season 4? Hope so.

Don't you HATE Twilight's new castle? It does seem to go against Twilight being humble, and seems like a cheap way for Hasbro to sell a toyset, but is it really the. worst. possible. thing? If anything, it's a change in scenery that will help define this season from the others.

What's something that can screw up this season? I don't know, make a rip off of _Putting Your Hoof Down_ or another terrible episode.

What new characters do you want to see return?
Gilda I think could make for an interesting episode, maybe... I don't know.
Flim Flam Brothers? We got them last season, so unless they do something radically different no.
Maud Pie? I think she should be in that episode with Pinkie's family supposedly planned.
King Sombra? Get over yourselves King Sombra fans.
Lightning Dust? Please, she didn't get a final saying in _Wonderbolts Academy, _and I feel there's a lot they can do with her.
Tirek? Not this season, I don't even want to see him reformed, it'd make him seem less intimidating, since he proved he couldn't be reformed in the past.
Overall I don't want a big influence of returning characters, and would like to see some new ones they come up with. The more waifus the better.

What's the next long lasting change to happen in this season? No idea. Hopefully something the fans won't complain about.

Any last thoughts? Let it be a good season, it's the least I can ask for after waiting so long for this to come. APRIL 4TH HYPE!
