Ruana was formerly an informal apprentice, and Lover, of Shifu. However they both broke when he realized that she was into the Arts for power and she tried to use his contacts in the supernatural world to barter for more power, an act he found repugnant.

He stopped the ritual which she attempted to gain that power, but she managed to escape with copies of some of his scrolls, vanishing for the next few decades. The Wardens are on the look for her, for attempting to break the First Law with her ritual, though so far she managed to avoid them.
