- I've never really done one of these before, so I hope this turns out alright! Here's a basic summary of SGDQ 2017 experience.
- SGDQ 2017 Summary:
- This being my very first GDQ event, I felt EXTREMELY nervous weeks before getting on the flight. Once I got there though, I knew I was in the right place. There were definitely some times where I felt a bit alone even being surrounded by a bunch of people, but I didn't let it ruin my experience. I met some amazing people, had some amazing moments, and I definitely wouldn't trade it for the world.
- Good Parts:
- Every single dinner I had involved me bonding with someone. These were honestly my favorite moments of GDQ next to just getting Starbucks every morning. Thinking about it just makes me absolutely excited to get to know the brand new friends I've made this GDQ and grow that friendship even further. I also seriously loved just how free flowing plans were at times. NOTHING was planned, but it always turned out to be an amazing time 90% of the time. I unfortunately didn't stop by the stream room much, but the few runs I did get to watch and be in the crowd for I'm REALLY inspired to try. (For a list of those games check out this pastebin. https://pastebin.com/Z7wMNahG ) I also somehow fixed my sleep schedule and I have NO idea how. I just ended up passing out at 12:00 pretty much every night which is an absolute miracle considering my normal sleep schedule. Overall, the good parts of GDQ were an absolute adventure, and I hope to make even more memories at the next one!
- Bad Parts:
- I had something very personal going through my mind during most of this GDQ and really let it get to me. I feel it affected me so much at times that I kinda just hid inside of an antisocial bubble. I'm really happy though that quite a few people were able to pop that bubble, but I seriously feel silly for just sitting back and being awkwardly quiet sometimes. I kinda don't blame myself cause of the stuff going through my mind, but I feel bad for not even saying hi sometimes. Really sorry if I seem distant to anyone, I honestly didn't mean to come off as standoffish, antisocial, or distant. Hoping next time I'll be able to just be more of myself.
- Future Plans:
- I'm not gonna let these personal issues that went through my mind eat at me. I'm gonna put more focus on the cast and try to reach the goals I set for myself even before GDQ.
- 1.Get partnership before Twitchcon
- 2.Get 2nd place/World Record in Pokemon FireRed Any%
- 3.Learn more non-Pokemon speedruns
- 4.Grow the bonds I've made with new and old friends.
- 5.Make even more friends than before.
- Special Thanks:
- I don't want to make this into a giant 5 page essay of all the amazing people I met that made a difference, so I'm only gonna throw this at the three people that made the biggest impact on my GDQ!
- Pinkhitter:
- You've seriously been one of the best friends I've ever made on Twitch. You took that friendship even further at GDQ and just gave me so many things to smile and laugh about. Thank you for volunteering to run to Starbucks with me almost every morning, checking up and including me in pretty much every plan you came up with, and lastly just giving me a friend to lean back on when I was looking for something to do or someone to spend some time with. I am beyond excited to get to see your face again in my chat and to throw all the hugs at you at Twitchcon. Thanks again for being amazing!
- P4ntz:
- You've been a serious bro right from the get go and took that term to the next level at GDQ. I'm honestly happy the first face I saw at GDQ was you. You have no idea how much I seriously appreciate your friendship and I honestly can't thank you enough for the good times. Also the advice you gave me for everything I needed advice on is beyond appreciated. I just hope I manage to find the heart and commitment to follow through with it all. Thank you again and much love to you my friend. Can't wait to see you at Twitchcon as well!
- That lady that worked at Starbucks:
- She knew my order and my username every single morning after only telling her once. My only regret is that I didn't give her my business card.
- TLDR: THERE ISN'T ONE YOU SHOULD JUST READ THE WHOLE PASTEBIN OHOHOHOHO.
