  1. Chapter 3 Nasrin discovers a special place
  2.
  3. It was perfect. The light filtered through the trees, the water dancing through the rocks, the air, the feel of it... It was perfect. The fact that there were two places you could watch from, if you knew where they were, only added to the qualities in favor of this particular place. Nasrin was not the isolated person, the other in the village. That discrimination would always advance more in service of brute biology not friendship, at least here.

  5. Upstream from here Nasrin had staked everything she was and won. Right here, she was a winner; her recipes, the herb beds she'd found, her advice, all were ascendant. It wasn't authority, nothing she knew was definitive. What it was, was certain. Anyone who went against Nasrin's advice in those years was sure of what they wanted. Outside of a major incursion or two, those people also prospered.

  7. From here she could see the whole village. From nowhere else could she see their hideaway. The butcher's boy set the upper limit for size, the popular one set the limit for traffic. If you didn't know where it was, or could't see hidden things, you would never find it. The genius of the maze was, a full-sized adult couldn't navigate it. Hidden away, the young people blindly began to set up the next generation of leadership.

  9. Parvinah had different ideas. She wanted a nicely ordered future. Even the boys know that would not come to pass.
