Chicago Residents Come Together to Wish CTU President a Speedy Recovery, Renew Commitment to Work on Issues While Karen Rests and Recovers.

	When: Thursday, October 9th, 2014, 5:30pm gather, 6:00pm program

	Where: King College Prep HS, 4445 S Drexel Boulevard, Chicago

	Who: Community and faith leaders from across the city

	Visuals: Supporters from across the city, a giant Get Well Card addressed to Karen Lewis

As news broke last night that Karen Lewis was undergoing surgery, community members came together quickly to plan an event to support Lewis. Community residents will rally to show love to Karen who has championed issues critical to Chicago working families.

Speakers will include faith and community leaders who will express their support of Karen, and put out a call to action on the Elected Representative School Board, $15 minimum wage, and other issues that move Chicago families forward.

“Tonight we will stand in solidarity with Karen Lewis, a woman who has bravely stood with the communities as a leader, a champion and a friend. We all are wishing Karen a quick recovery, but we know in the meantime that Karen would want us to keep working, keep fighting, and keep the pressure on the issues impacting families across the city,” said Amisha Patel, Executive Director of Grassroots Illinois Action (GIA).
