Alessandrina craved the darkness much more than the sun. The moon welcomed the interesting, the sinners with secrets and the fools who grew red with lust, the needy who would spend every last penny on bitter alcohol, Alessandrina had seen all their faces, all their wants and desires because she controlled them, she handed out the pretty ladies who danced at their feet, the whiskey that burned their throat, the red painted rooms where they were free to explore their deepest desires and share their darkest secrets.
