  1. How to get Far Cry running well on Linux:
  2. Personal System Information:
  3. OS: EndeavourOS Linux
  4. KERNEL: 6.5.3-arch1-1
  5. CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700X Eight-Core
  6. GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti
  7. GPU DRIVER: NVIDIA 535.104.05
  8. RAM: 32 GB
  9.
  10. I will try to generalize this as much as possible, but those are my specific setup stats for reference.
  11. Proton Version: Experimental on 9/16/23
  12. Custom Arguments: gamemoderun %command% -mod:FarOut_Widescreen -64bit
  13.
  14. Setup Instructions:
  15. 1. Download wine for your distribution. The command for me was "sudo pacman -S wine" but I know "sudo apt install wine" works for Debian distributions.
  16.
  17. 2. Download the file at https://www.moddb.com/mods/farout-widescreen/downloads/farout-widescreen-wip and extract it.
  18.
  19. 3. Navigate in a terminal to where you extracted the file in your filesystem and run 'wine "FarOut Widescreen - 1.0 - 1.1 WIP - Jul 08 2020.exe'
  20.
  21. 4. Type in Z:\path-to-farcry for your game path. Remember to put the Linux path after Z: and to swap / for \ when typing the path. The installer should guide you through the rest.
  22.
  23. 5. Input the custom arguments above as your custom arguments when launching Steam. Doing this should load the mod in automatically.
  24.
  25. 6. Enjoy, the game will run significantly better now.
  26.
  27. ETA: Just to let anyone reading this know, the in-game overlay for Steam is unstable and will sometimes cause crashes even with the patches. If your game crashes when booting, try turning off the overlay and restarting it.
