  1. [12:36 AM] Sylvia Channing: oh there's no way they could do that, that would require so much back and forth with the server to determine whenever there's a keytyping event... and honestly it's a detail most people would miss anyway because they're either looking at what they're typing, or the keyboard.
  2. [12:36 AM] Sylvia Channing: it'd be cool enough if they could, but it'd have a HUGE detrimental effect on the game.
  3. [12:36 AM] Bebop: they do it in second life to the point you can buy custom chat emotes
  4. [12:37 AM] Bebop: any time the chat window is actively getting typed in to, emote starts
  5. [12:38 AM] Bebop: I believe there's maybe a half-second delay in starting and stopping as well.
  6. It's a pretty rad feature. Mine was pulling out a PSP and playing Monster Hunter on it, to the point it even had a repeating .gif of the game in action, and rotating thumbstickss(edited)
  7. [12:39 AM] Sylvia Channing: Second life... you mean the game that's like half a decade older than FF14, and even minor lockstep upgrades to their servers would have them able to handle that kind of data processing in real time? And whose almost exclusive point is aesthetics?
  8. [12:41 AM] Bebop: if a half decade old game can implement something as simple as what discord is doing this very moment with "sylvia channing is typing...." a game can toss in an emote that technically exists within the world already
  9. [12:41 AM] Bebop: remember , they already do the pose
  10. [12:42 AM] Sylvia Channing: You have a game that's already seeing half a second lag spikes because of all the -other- data that it handles that SL and Discord and everything else doesn't have to and you want to make it start capturing data from the keyboard and sending that activity data back to the server to be processed and then sent back out to every client?
  11. [12:43 AM] Sylvia Channing: Where's the raids with quarter second accuracy in SL? The AI tracking for how many thousands of mobs spawned into each server at all times, the scale and scope of the data handled by the two games is completely incogruous.
  12. [12:45 AM] Bebop: I dont exactly understand the point of where this is going x...x
  13. I'm... you know... just saying it'd be cool to have something simple implemented for haptic feedback, considering it's desperately needed.
  14. [12:45 AM] Sylvia Channing: I think needed is definitely not the word yu mean.
  15. [12:46 AM] Bebop: From a personal perspective, it is, for me.
  16. [12:49 AM] Sylvia Channing: .... I ... feel like need is not the word.. would like probably... and you're the only person I've heard suggest it... which is fine... anything they can toss in without negative impact is great, but what I'm saying is that the negative impact would be there... it'd be big, I mean they're already dicking with us about increasing inventory size because there's already too much data being parsed by the server for inventory backups... and if I have to choose between a few extry bytes to tell everyone's client whether or not you're using your keyboard, and another 20 invo slots? Guess who's not getting mouth movements while typing?
  17. [12:49 AM] Sylvia Channing: I mean you've gotta remember how -absolutely shit- the programming of this game is.
  18. [12:51 AM] Sylvia Channing: Like... I'm not saying that it shouldn't be there of it's own merit, right? LIke if they can shoehorn it in without effects that's good, it'll make at least one person happy.
  19. [12:52 AM] Talen: I'm fukken ready to duke it out with both of you and I've no idea what's going on
  20. [12:52 AM] Syrus sas Beleran: Jaz wants an emote in game, Sylvia in a lot of words is explaining how Jaz's idea is stupid and they shouldn't want it.
  21. [12:53 AM] Sylvia Channing: That's not what I'm saying at all.
  22. [12:53 AM] Talen: FUKKEN IT'S TIME TO PUNCH. NO THINK
  23. [12:53 AM] Talen: ONLY FIST
  24. [12:54 AM] Syrus sas Beleran: My work here is done.
