- The giant thought he was mad to attempt to take him on; clutching his great, square, colossal club, he raised it aloft and aimed a blow at Perceval – but missed him as he dodged aside. It was as well he did: it would only take one blow to land and there’d be nothing left of him to mourn. Perceval was in awe of the club, but gripped his naked sword and aimed a truly mighty blow; he didn’t find the target – the giant was too far off – but he caught him on the left hip: if the blow had landed properly it would have taken off his leg, but the sword turned and went flashing down, cutting through the muscle so close to the bone that it sliced the giant’s heel clean off.
