There are still a huge number of people around who don't understand what the much-quoted gender pay gap actually measures. More than half the population mistakenly thinks that the quoted gap ("77 cents for every dollar a man gets", or 81 cents or whatever number is being quoted today) is actually the difference for women in the same job, with the same skills and working the same hours.
In other words, most people don't have the first clue about how crudely the "gender wage gap" is calculated.
Often, a picture can drive the point home far better than words. So show them this chart, which should clear up their confusion.
As you can see, the actual "like for like" gender pay gap in the UK is just 0.8%, which is a LOT less than the 19% - 23% that idiot feminists are always claiming.
The worldwide average figure for the 33 countries covered in this study is 1.6%.
Personally, my guess is that last remaining gap is due to women taking more vacation days per year, on average, than men do. To my knowledge, there have only been a couple of studies done on this topic. Both did find that women took more vacation days (even before they had kids), but the size of the difference varied quite a lot. More research is needed. Vacation time is one of very few personal choices not accounted for in this study, so it likely does contribute to that remaining gap.

Imagine how many female suicides there would be if women were forced to subsidize their exes and his new "baby momma" while being denied access to their children.
In many countries men are unable to vote unless they are subject to conscription.
There is a rape culture alright -- feminists just have the sex wrong. Boys as young as twelve are told they should be happy when they are molested. Women are given slaps on the wrist for molesting boys. Female on male rape isn't even legally recognized in many countries. Men are routinely raped in prison. Boys are raped by female guards in juvenile detention centers. No one gives a shit.
Domestic violence against males is not even recognized by many governments and charities. In fact men are often themselves arrested when they call the police after being abused.
False accusations by women are seldom punished. A man can be terrorized over the mere threat of a false accusation of rape or domestic violence.
Men work longer hours, pay the majority of taxes and die younger yet receive less services by the state, including health care funding.
Men are now being accused of "sexual misconduct" and having their lives destroyed for completely trivial behavior (like the PBS guy who was fired for putting a hand on a woman's back).
Major media institutions are openly anti-male.
When men are suffering they are victim-blamed and told it's due to "toxic masculinity." I'm not sure what world you're living in but you're not allowed to hire non citizens. You're not allowed to house them either. If they do work, then they are being payed under the table (dodging several regulations like work safety and min wage often. Unknown number of laws broken here) or they could be using identity theft so they would be able to work utilizing this fraud. There's also the mire of illegal housing units and practices that they get involved with since they're not supposed to be rented to in the first place, so they can't go complain to the state that their landlord isn't following regulations.
I'm sure there's plenty of other problems that are much worse than I mentioned, but that's a handful of crimes that happen with just about every non citizen who is here illegally no matter how good of a person they are. I'm not even bringing up the way they affect the economy. I just want you to recognize that they definitively cause crime to increase wherever they go because of what I outlined. Genetics and sociology have long been in a tug of war, with advocacy for the primary fo fact and ideology by the former and the latter respectively. We have often heard that race is just a social construct by dogmatists, but how much truth is there to that when doctors have to take into account what someone's race is to give proper treatment?

David Reich, professor of genetics at Harvard University, argues that:
If scientists avoid discussing the topic candidly, racist theories will fill the vacuum.
And that's true enough. Let's look at some of the valuable things he has to say in his article (as well as some of the dubious things, which are rare).
Beginning in 1972, genetic findings began to be incorporated into this argument. That year, the geneticist Richard Lewontin published an important study of variation in protein types in blood. He grouped the human populations he analyzed into seven “races” — West Eurasians, Africans, East Asians, South Asians, Native Americans, Oceanians and Australians — and found that around 85 percent of variation in the protein types could be accounted for by variation within populations and “races,” and only 15 percent by variation across them. To the extent that there was variation among humans, he concluded, most of it was because of “differences between individuals.”
In this way, a consensus was established that among human populations there are no differences large enough to support the concept of “biological race.” Instead, it was argued, race is a “social construct,” a way of categorizing people that changes over time and across countries.
It is true that race is a social construct. It is also true, as Dr. Lewontin wrote, that human populations “are remarkably similar to each other” from a genetic point of view.
But over the years this consensus has morphed, seemingly without questioning, into an orthodoxy. The orthodoxy maintains that the average genetic differences among people grouped according to today’s racial terms are so trivial when it comes to any meaningful biological traits that those differences can be ignored.
This claim is not exactly incorrect: it's always important to judge people solely as individuals. But people have drawn rather extreme conclusions from it. The fact that there is more genetic variation within than between races in no way proves that race is not a valid category. There surely is more genetic difference within the two genders, but... oh damn, they don't believe that either.
I have deep sympathy for the concern that genetic discoveries could be misused to justify racism. But as a geneticist I also know that it is simply no longer possible to ignore average genetic differences among “races.”

These advances enable us to measure with exquisite accuracy what fraction of an individual’s genetic ancestry traces back to, say, West Africa 500 years ago — before the mixing in the Americas of the West African and European gene pools that were almost completely isolated for the last 70,000 years. With the help of these tools, we are learning that while race may be a social construct, differences in genetic ancestry that happen to correlate to many of today’s racial constructs are real.
Recent genetic studies have demonstrated differences across populations not just in the genetic determinants of simple traits such as skin color, but also in more complex traits like bodily dimensions and susceptibility to diseases. For example, we now know that genetic factors help explain why northern Europeans are taller on average than southern Europeans, why multiple sclerosis is more common in European-Americans than in African-Americans, and why the reverse is true for end-stage kidney disease.
I am worried that well-meaning people who deny the possibility of substantial biological differences among human populations are digging themselves into an indefensible position, one that will not survive the onslaught of science. I am also worried that whatever discoveries are made — and we truly have no idea yet what they will be — will be cited as “scientific proof” that racist prejudices and agendas have been correct all along, and that those well-meaning people will not understand the science well enough to push back against these claims.
There could also be another reason to push back against this, namely that 'the noble lie' is not a way to deal with people who are relying on you for information. If there is an issue, tell us about it and properly contextualize it. Still, this is an improvement over the point of view that information about genetic differences will inevitably transform people into Hitlers.
Self-identified African-Americans turn out to derive, on average, about 80 percent of their genetic ancestry from enslaved Africans brought to America between the 16th and 19th centuries. My colleagues and I searched, in 1,597 African-American men with prostate cancer, for locations in the genome where the fraction of genes contributed by West African ancestors was larger than it was elsewhere in the genome. In 2006, we found exactly what we were looking for: a location in the genome with about 2.8 percent more African ancestry than the average.
When we looked in more detail, we found that this region contained at least seven independent risk factors for prostate cancer, all more common in West Africans. Our findings could fully account for the higher rate of prostate cancer in African-Americans than in European-Americans. We could conclude this because African-Americans who happen to have entirely European ancestry in this small section of their genomes had about the same risk for prostate cancer as random Europeans.
Did this research rely on terms like “African-American” and “European-American” that are socially constructed, and did it label segments of the genome as being probably “West African” or “European” in origin? Yes. Did this research identify real risk factors for disease that differ in frequency across those populations, leading to discoveries with the potential to improve health and save lives? Yes.
One could put it another way: political correctness costs lives.
While most people will agree that finding a genetic explanation for an elevated rate of disease is important, they often draw the line there. Finding genetic influences on a propensity for disease is one thing, they argue, but looking for such influences on behavior and cognition is another.
But whether we like it or not, that line has already been crossed. A recent study led by the economist Daniel Benjamin compiled information on the number of years of education from more than 400,000 people, almost all of whom were of European ancestry. After controlling for differences in socioeconomic background, he and his colleagues identified 74 genetic variations that are over-represented in genes known to be important in neurological development, each of which is incontrovertibly more common in Europeans with more years of education than in Europeans with fewer years of education.
It's good to have more information about specific genes, but of course, this won't be a surprise to anyone who knows anything about intelligence research. Intelligence is largely heritable. It has very weak correlations with non-adoptive parents. And while we all know about smart children born to stupid parents, that is not exactly the rule - correlation reigns supreme.
Is performance on an intelligence test or the number of years of school a person attends shaped by the way a person is brought up? Of course. But does it measure something having to do with some aspect of behavior or cognition? Almost certainly. And since all traits influenced by genetics are expected to differ across populations (because the frequencies of genetic variations are rarely exactly the same across populations), the genetic influences on behavior and cognition will differ across populations, too.
He is now entering very dangerous territory that got intelligence researcher Arthur Jensen and libertarian political scientist Charles Murray branded as 'white nationalists' by the Southern Poverty Law Center. I wonder why they are not branded as 'Asian nationalists' or 'Jewish nationalists' (they are not Jewish) for pointing out that whites are, on average, inferior in terms of intelligence compared to Asians and Ashkenazi Jews.
You will sometimes hear that any biological differences among populations are likely to be small, because humans have diverged too recently from common ancestors for substantial differences to have arisen under the pressure of natural selection. This is not true. The ancestors of East Asians, Europeans, West Africans and Australians were, until recently, almost completely isolated from one another for 40,000 years or longer, which is more than sufficient time for the forces of evolution to work. Indeed, the study led by Dr. Kong showed that in Iceland, there has been measurable genetic selection against the genetic variations that predict more years of education in that population just within the last century.
This was actually a surprise to me. Since so many fewer people die nowadays, I did not expect there to be that much selection pressure left.
He goes a bit off the rails and he starts ranting about 'racist stereotypes' allegedly promoted by Nicholas Wade and Nobel prize winner James Watson - apparently getting him fired, persecution him and forcing him to force his Nobel prize to get by was not sufficient.
To understand why it is so dangerous for geneticists and anthropologists to simply repeat the old consensus about human population differences, consider what kinds of voices are filling the void that our silence is creating. Nicholas Wade, a longtime science journalist for The New York Times, rightly notes in his 2014 book, “A Troublesome Inheritance: Genes, Race and Human History,” that modern research is challenging our thinking about the nature of human population differences. But he goes on to make the unfounded and irresponsible claim that this research is suggesting that genetic factors explain traditional stereotypes.
One of Mr. Wade’s key sources, for example, is the anthropologist Henry Harpending, who has asserted that people of sub-Saharan African ancestry have no propensity to work when they don’t have to because, he claims, they did not go through the type of natural selection for hard work in the last thousands of years that some Eurasians did. There is simply no scientific evidence to support this statement. Indeed, as 139 geneticists (including myself) pointed out in a letter to The New York Times about Mr. Wade’s book, there is no genetic evidence to back up any of the racist stereotypes he promotes.
This is very interesting. No such claim is made in the book that I can find. The only times when Harpending or his work is cited is when Jewish intelligence is discussed, as well as one of his quotes about whether or not human genetic differences are large or small. I wonder whether this is an attempt at guilt by association by Reich, and to very strongly suggest - without outright saying - that it's Wade echoing this claim.
At a meeting a few years later, Dr. Watson said to me and my fellow geneticist Beth Shapiro something to the effect of “When are you guys going to figure out why it is that you Jews are so much smarter than everyone else?” He asserted that Jews were high achievers because of genetic advantages conferred by thousands of years of natural selection to be scholars, and that East Asian students tended to be conformist because of selection for conformity in ancient Chinese society. (Contacted recently, Dr. Watson denied having made these statements, maintaining that they do not represent his views; Dr. Shapiro said that her recollection matched mine.)
In fact, I'll one-up you and say that it may be that the Chinese are more intelligence because of positive pressure from the examination system. If people are advantaged based on their ability to read and understand certain texts, then they will reproduce more than a place where you get an advantage by bashing each other's skull in, like most of medieval Europe for that matter. Of course, this is hardly a bulletproof hypothesis, as this does not explain why the Japanese and Koreans are also more intelligent than whites (on average), when they did not have the examination system.
If scientists can be confident of anything, it is that whatever we currently believe about the genetic nature of differences among populations is most likely wrong. For example, my laboratory discovered in 2016, based on our sequencing of ancient human genomes, that “whites” are not derived from a population that existed from time immemorial, as some people believe. Instead, “whites” represent a mixture of four ancient populations that lived 10,000 years ago and were each as different from one another as Europeans and East Asians are today.
This is interesting. One of them must lack a soul, and be overrepresented among Gallic populations.
For me, a natural response to the challenge is to learn from the example of the biological differences that exist between males and females. The differences between the sexes are far more profound than those that exist among human populations, reflecting more than 100 million years of evolution and adaptation. Males and females differ by huge tracts of genetic material — a Y chromosome that males have and that females don’t, and a second X chromosome that females have and males don’t.
This comes about 2/3 into the article. Reich is rather lucky, because today the claim that females have a second X-chromosome is very controversial. Not to mention the fact that we are a sexually dimorphic species.
Most everyone accepts that the biological differences between males and females are profound. In addition to anatomical differences, men and women exhibit average differences in size and physical strength. (There are also average differences in temperament and behavior, though there are important unresolved questions about the extent to which these differences are influenced by social expectations and upbringing.)
You can see this guy is from the hard sciences. He does not often encounter the delusional lunatics we do.
How do we accommodate the biological differences between men and women? I think the answer is obvious: We should both recognize that genetic differences between males and females exist and we should accord each sex the same freedoms and opportunities regardless of those differences.
The same freedoms and opportunities. I think everyone sane agrees with that.
It is clear from the inequities that persist between women and men in our society that fulfilling these aspirations in practice is a challenge.
Note that he says inequities and not inequalities. I'm not entirely sure what he's talking about, but I don't think he necessarily supports the idea that any difference in outcome is necessarily an inequity - that would be ridiculous considering he himself points out that there differences between XX and XY are massive and enormous. And they are.
An abiding challenge for our civilization is to treat each human being as an individual and to empower all people, regardless of what hand they are dealt from the deck of life. Compared with the enormous differences that exist among individuals, differences among populations are on average many times smaller, so it should be only a modest challenge to accommodate a reality in which the average genetic contributions to human traits differ.
It is important to face whatever science will reveal without prejudging the outcome and with the confidence that we can be mature enough to handle any findings. Arguing that no substantial differences among human populations are possible will only invite the racist misuse of genetics that we wish to avoid.

Ultimately, we are left to conclude that there is no published study or data to support any claim that the false rape allegation rate is or was ever down around 2%; not anywhere, even from those who cited that number originally. Rather, it comes from a judge giving a speech to some attorneys almost 40 years ago whose source has, to date, not been identified or confirmed.

It is not inappropriate to suggest that it is time we move forward and away from the citation of this figure to more contemporary and reliable scientific data.

Published Research: There has been some research specific to the area of falsely reported rapes, resulting in published figures ranging from 8 to 41%:

1. MacDonald (1973) provided false report rates for 1968: they were 18% nationwide and 25% in Denver, Colorado

2. Greenfield (1997), quoting US. Bureau of Justice Statistics, provided a nationwide false report rate of 8% in 1995 and 15% in 1997

3. Brown and colleagues (1997) conducted research to address the issue of genital injury in female sexual assault victims presenting to the San Luis Obispo General Hospital emergency room in California between 1985 and 1993. Their study revealed a false report rate of just over 13%, involving women who ultimately removed themselves from the research being conducted

4. Kanin (1994), in his study of an unnamed Midwestern city in the United States, revealed a 41% false report rate.

5. Kennedy and Witkowski (2000), in their attempt to replicate the Kanin study in a suburb of Detroit, found a false report rate of 32% between 1988 and 1997.

6. In April 2002, Her Majesty’s Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate and Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary published ”A Report on the Joint Inspection into the Investigation and Prosecution of Cases Involving Allegations of Rape.” The report revealed that, out of 1379 cases studied, 11.8% were false reports.

7. Lea and associates (2003) gathered data in a constabulary in the southwest of England from 1996 to 2000, They revealed an 11% false report rate.

8. Jordan (2004) studied police rape and sexual assault files in New Zealand The study revealed a false report rate of 41%.

These numbers, while varying by location and year, combine to suggest that false reports of rape are not rare, but common. The authors are not suggesting that these numbers be used predicatively to infer that false reporting is more or less likely in a given case. Rather, we are suggesting that this illustrates the need for due process and impartial investigations in cases of alleged sexual assault.

Some of the things from Damore's lawsuit, if verified as being true, are pretty awful.
The lawsuit allegations include:
•	Google brought in Ruth Porat and Eileen Naughton for the weekly "TGIF meeting" on March 30, 2017. During this event, either Porat/Naughton shamed the departments within Google where less than half of the workforce was made up of women (bullet point 30).
•	At the "Diversity and Inclusion Summit", Google stated their definition of "diverse": Women who were not Caucasian or Asian (bullet point 36).
•	After the aforementioned summit, Google held "Diversity Training", which was split into two parts: Online course, and in-person training. In-person training was known as "Bias Busting", which discussed the existence of white male privilege in the workplace as well as biases against women (bullet point 60).
•	George Sadlier, a Director at Google, mass-emailed Google to condemn Damore's memo as "repulsive and intellectually dishonest". Damore received an email the following day from Alex Hidalgo, calling him "a misogynist and a terrible person" and threatened to hound him "until one [of them was] fired. Fuck you" (bullet point 67).
•	Chuck Wu, Senior Director of Engineering for Google, terminated Damore's employment for "perpetuating gender stereotypes" in his memo. Damore attempted to explain why this was unlawful, and Meghana Rao, from Google HR, stated that there would be no discussion (bullet point 72).
•	The Google Recognition Team awarded "Peer Bonuses", usually reserved for outstanding work performances, to people who argued against Damore's political views. One email received by Simone Wu congratulated her for “speaking up for googley values and promoting [diversity and inclusion] in the wretched hive of scum and villainy that is [Damore’s Memo].” (bullet points 74-76).
•	High-ranking SRE Director Colm Buckley stated that "there are certain "alternative views, including different political views" which he "intend[ed] to silence" because they are "violently offensive" (bullet point 77).
•	David Gudeman was called to Google HR after responding to Kim Burchett's document "Derailing", which discussed how people might try to silence others opinions, supposedly aimed at white Caucasian males. He was issued a verbal warning for "attempting to stand up to Caucasian males and his conservative views" (bullet points 80-89)
•	Gudeman had a conversation with a Google employee shortly after Trump's election victory. He complained "about being a conservative and a Trump supporter", pointing out that his kind were "a hated and despised minority at Google". He was accused of gaslighting. Gudeman was later terminated over comments about Sarmad Gilani, in which Google accused him of accusing Gilani of terrorism. (bullet points 101-104)
•	A Site Reliability Manager discovered that one of Google's employees supported Trump. The employee later expressed concerns about the mistreatment of conservatives by Google, at which the SRM stormed off. Months later, the SRM falsely accused him of participating in a doxxing campaign in order to sabotage his annual performance review. He later emailed all 80000 employees to brag about this meeting. Though these threats were reported to Google HR, Google did not make the manager apologize or retract his threats. The same manager repeated some threats to bloggers in support of Damore, and Google did nothing. (bullet points 113-122).
•	Adam Fletcher, Jame McGuire and Nori Heikkinen, all SRE Managers, publicly endorsed blacklisting conservatives from employement opportunities at Google (bullet point 128)
•	Conservative blogger Curtis Yarvin, who reportedly advised Steve Bannon, entered the Google office to have lunch with an employee. Apparently, his presence triggered a silent alarm, and security personnel escorted him off. Other conservative personalities, including Alex Jones, were on this blacklist. One employee asked Google HR to have these people removed. HR responded by blocking the blacklist's contents from everybody. (bullet points 149-151).
•	Two conservative Googlers criticized a feminist blog post in mid-2015. Andy Carrel suggested that "we should just try laying off these people". Others, such as Chris Lewis, called them "poisonous assholes". Google HR received these name-calls, and claimed that they were not policy violations. (bullet point 152-155)
•	Liz Fong-Jones, an SRE Manager, discriminated against white men, claiming she "could care less about being 'unfair' to" them. Others joined in in support of her. (bullet point 156)
•	Exhibit B provides a collection of anti-conservative postings (page 74-111), a collection of "Google endorsing political violence" (page 112-119). A lot of "punch a Nazi" comments which, of course, compare Trump supporters to Nazis and implies that it's an excuse to punch them. There's a meme that says "If you want to increase diversity at Google, fire all the bigoted white men", a comment that says "The only way we "move past color" in America is for white people to shut up and listen". Satellite data strongly suggests that China, Russia and other authoritarian countries are fudging their GDP reports
China, Russia and other authoritarian countries inflate their official GDP figures by anywhere from 15 to 30 percent in a given year, according to a new analysis of a quarter-century of satellite data.
The working paper, by Luis R. Martinez of the University of Chicago, also found that authoritarian regimes are especially likely to artificially boost their gross domestic product numbers in the years before elections, and that the differences in GDP reporting between authoritarian and non-authoritarian countries can't be explained by structural factors, such as urbanization, composition of the economy or access to electricity.
Oh, no, they don't fudge their numbers; they flat out make them up.

China's own premier has previously said he's far from confident in the country's GDP estimates, calling them "man-made" and unreliable, according to a leaked document from 2007 obtained by WikiLeaks. He said government data releases, especially the GDP numbers, should be used "for reference only."
Lot of folks in geopolitics have been saying that about China for years. Its a country with a population of a billion citizens with standards of living of a third world country The Average Median Income in China is about same as Libya or Nicaragua. That's half the working population (mostly rural workers) making about $2000 a year, a standard of living not significantly distinguishable from Ghana. And the wealth gap is a particular danger because, like at every period of growth in Chinese history, its all concentrated at the coasts and the further inland you get the more like it is to travel back in time. This isn't like going from San Francisco, California to Grant's Pass, Oregon where you can expect to find first world standards of living in either case (just with fewer luxuries in the interior). No country that size with a wealth disparity that significant is making the kind of money they say they are. Chinese students do well on tests that require rote memorization, and I would say this is true for most of the East Asian countries. They’re really good at regurgitating information. But they have a hard time coming up with their own creative ideas. This is why Americans who say we are falling behind Asia in education are misguided. Native Americans, Genocide is too strong a term. But there were actions that might constitute acts of genocide or ethnic cleansing. We do have evidence of extreme violence from before Columbus. Archeologists have found mass graves and burial sites where the bones show obvious signs of trauma from arrows or axes. Plenty of tribes would go around raiding and wiping out other people or stealing their meager belongings. The Comanches and Apaches were pretty nasty towards anyone near them. The Aztecs would enslave people and use war captives in ritual sacrifices. People found giant piles of skulls in Mesoamerica. Natives in the Pacific Northwest would take prisoners of war and use them as slaves. Scalping, stealing women, revenge killing, mutilation, and burning people were all common tactics for certain Natives. At the same time some were much more peaceful and passive towards neighbors, others were far more warlike. Random attacks on peaceful settlers are not modern myths.
The Europeans essentially broke millennia old stalemates. Some tribes that traded with the Europeans for guns took them and completely wiped out their enemies, or forced them out of the eastern woodlands onto the prairies. A middle of the road estimate of the population of the Americas in 1500 would be around 57 million. Its now pretty well established that Old World diseases caused a 75-95% population die off after the initial contact with the Spanish.
The Spanish were probably too few in numbers to have committed a genocide against the people of the Caribbean. We have written records of people going out and killing natives for fun or using them in forced labor. Columbus was actually fired as the Governor of the Indies by the Spanish crown and briefly spent time in jail because of his brutality. But we also have good evidence that Old World diseases the natives had no immunity to were what did the job. Measles, mumps, influenza, black plague, smallpox and fever ravaged across the continent in multiple waves. Indeed, there is only one confirmed instance in all the history of the New Wold of Europeans trying to intentionally infect natives with smallpox.
Saying the whites committed a genocide is also probably too strong. Forced relocations, forced sterilizations, attempts at slavery(which almost always failed), and random attacks by settlers on peaceful people would probably constitute acts of genocide, but there never seemed to be an overarching national goal to terminate indigenous people. By the time the Indian Wars were over the US census bureau estimated that the data toll on both sides was about 30-45,000. Most of the "wars" were brief skirmishes between either militias and the US military and some local natives that would result in a few hundred deaths.

Poor people typically have bad spending habits. No one denies that, when adjusting for their salary, that some costs exceed those of higher income simply due to lower salary = higher cost distributions on equal services. But even outside of that, low income populations still usually spend outside of a budget, gamble more often, consume more tobacco and alcohol, don't put anything into savings, do more "spontaneous purchases," and consume luxuries outside of their means. While it's a whole other topic to make that into a criticism or psychological analysis in any way, I'd say these are some absolute behavioral correlations.

Gun Control:
Using Google, Bing, Murderpedia, Wikipedia's Massacres, terrorism, and familicide pages I was able to find 14 mass shootings since their 1996 National Firearms Agreement went into effect. All these shootings should have 4 or more victims in one setting, session, incident or incidents without the FBI's "cooling off period" in between. And you should all be able to find multiple sources if you Google or Bing them. Hopefully this can aid in correcting the misinformation that Australia went 22 years without a mass shooting before the Margaret River Murder Suicide.
The most amazing things I found out were: #1 Australia had 14 mass shootings in the 22 years before, and then 14 after. #2 It does look like they tend to be much less deadly since 1996. #3 They've had 20 mass murders since, and had 17 before. So mass murder incidents went up #4 The amount of arson & "gassing" mass murders more than made up for the less severe mass shootings since 1996. #5 Drive by shootings which were were rare before their 1996 laws, are now fairly common. #6 I did not count the incident where Australian police shot 4 people by accident in an effort to stop someone with a knife. Yes, 4 people were shot. But not on purpose. And there was no evidence that was the stabber's intention. #7 I also did not count the Top End Shootings in 1987 or the Cangai Siege in 1993 that most journalists use to inflate the number of "before 1996" shootings. These shooters had 5 days and over the course of 9 days respectively in between their shootings. If you had opportunities to eat, sleep, travel, etc.. that clearly fits the definition of a cooling off period. #8 This really shows how disingenuous all the 2016 articles going around saying that there were 16 mass shootings before and 0 after in Austria because of their gun laws. Which they conveniently redefined a mass shooting as 5 dead to qualify after 1996. But included shootings where 3 people died before 1996. They put the number at 5 to purposely exclude a few high profile shootings where 4 died. And just plain completely ignored a shooting where 5 people died.

And this study leaves out a year and some change of the ban. Of this article's range, the first 9 years or so were during the ban and the last 13 years were after the ban. So the rate of school shootings actually dropped since Clinton's ban, but realistically it's too small of a sample size to trust.
And it's worth mentioning that there were so many workarounds to that ban that it would've really stopped anybody intent on doing damage. You could still get semi-automatic rifles during the ban, they just looked a little different.

The reason people "feel" that mass shootings happen "all the time" and are "getting worse and worse" is because of the 24 hour news media as well as social media.
First of all we have a predatory, mostly biased main stream media that will plaster stories like parkland all over the place, 24 hours a day because it suits their agenda. All the while burying mass shooting like the Washington Naval Yard shooting because it couldn't be twisted to suit their agenda once the facts were known.
This gives the average news consumer the impression that mass shootings happen every day or week and they are 10000 times worst than the 90's because those of us old enough to remember the 90's or even earlier were not subjected to the constant barrage of news media.
Second is social media, where again, the spread of these stories to younger audiences makes them feel like it happens all the time and this is a new thing.
Notice I used feel, Gun control is about emotions, it is about feelings, it is not about actual facts because the numbers don't bear it out.
