  19. The Ruins are an interesting place to hang out in. Being vaguely human-shaped but not actually human makes for an interesting state of affairs, as does the fact that I can have avatars of myself wander around beyond the ruins and across the entire Underground. I wasn't the most gregarious person, but I certainly made my share of friends and poked around. Though there were of course rumors of something that was not merely a monster but something more.
  20.
  21. Toriel at least got some company, considering the Ruins were a place I tended to hang out. Papyrus was enthusiastic. Sans was... Sans.
  22.
  23. When some random child with jaundice (wtf?) fell down, though, that was when things got interesting. Toriel tried to keep him and chose not to, and I tended to show up about as often as Sans did to try to nudge the kid onto the straight and narrow, though tending to make sure my avatars were all palette swapped to different colors even if they looked identical otherwise. (And also to give him some lembas bread to nibble on as he felt necessary, because life's better with lembas.) It seemed to work particularly well - when the kid met up with Asgore, he had no XP.
  24.
  25. And then the timeline reset to the moment the child fell.
  26.
  27. >"Hi! I'm Flowey the Flower!"
  28. "And I'm Crux! And together, we are... WYLD STALLYNS!"
  29. >"What."
  30. "I thought we were doing a bit. You know, time travel? What, am I here ahead of schedule?"
  31. >"... You can SAVE too?"
  32. "Nah, I usually take the long way. Anyways. Hey kid, do me a favor, would you? Be excellent to everyone. I'll make sure you get something special at the end if you do. But not if you reset again, understand?"
  33. >"Hey! You can't just arbitrarily do things like that!"
  34. "Sure I can! And just to piss you off, I'm going to track down W.D. Gaster."
  35. >"You what."
  36. "See you kids in the funny papers!"
  37.
  38. There wasn't a second timeline reset, because the offer was apparently too much for the human child to pass up. Monsters, free from the Underground. Asriel, restored to his normal form. W.D. Gaster, restored to life. (You're welcome.)
  39.
  40. So I gave the child the reward I had decided on. A ride on the Kaleidoscope, to the alternate reality of his choice.
  41.
  42. One that was pretty much identical, except anime was real.
  43.
  44. ...Yeah, I didn't see that coming either, but I feel like I should have.
