49. Two years after the events in "Final Fantasy VII", a disease called 'Seikon-Shoukougun', or 'Geostigma', is spreading through the planet. This disease is believed to have been caused by the body fighting off foreign material that invaded the body two years earlier, at the end of "Final Fantasy VII". Guilt-ridden and haunted by his past, ex-SOLDIER Cloud Strife has decided to live a secluded, solitary life away from his friends while maintaining "Strife's Delivery Service", whose headquarters is located in Tifa Lockheart's bar, the Seventh Heaven. Tifa's bar serves as an orphanage for children stricken with Geostigma. Here, Tifa keeps an eye on Barret's six-year-old daughter, Marlene, while Barret searches the planet for an alternative energy source to the Planet's energy, Mako. One day, Cloud receives a phone call from the former Shinra, Inc. president, Rufus, asking him for protection from a mysterious man named Kadaj. Kadaj, in the meantime, along with his brothers Loz and Yazoo, are searching for their "mother", and seem to believe that Cloud knows where to find her. Meanwhile, Vincent Valentine has been wandering the planet gathering information on Kadaj's scheme, and Cloud and his friends must come together again to fight these new enemies.
 50. Two years after "Final Fantasy 7", life seems to have returned to a state of normality after Sephiroth's attempts at mass genocide and the danger of Meteor. On the edge of the ruins of the metropolis Midgar, a new city has thrived, called the Edge and at it's center lies a monument that entails no one will forget Meteor and the ones who died. Cloud Strife, the hero who defeated Sephiroth, is a delivery boy now, no longer interested in fighting wars or leading rebellions. The world is at peace, and AVALANCHE is gone it's separate ways. Tifa Lockheart has reopened the new 7th Heaven, in the Edge, looking after Marlene and other orphans, including Denzel. Barret Wallace is working with the WRO in finding new energy sources to supply the world now that Mako is no longer used. Cid Highwind is also working with the WRO, as an airship pilot and leader of their air fleet. Reeve (and Cait Sith) is now heading the WRO and working, striving, to create a better world for all. Vincent Valentine has returned to solace, switching his places between his mansion home in Nibleheim and the Sleeping Forest, and the Forgotten City. Yuffie Kirisagi is back in Wutai, though what the Ninja is doing is unknown to all. But despite this lull in adventure, there is something that is striving the world. Geostigma, the Sephiroth, JENOVA's memetic legacy. A disease that counters the body's own defence system in on itself and causes it to destroy itself. Rufus ShinRa, ex-President of Midgar, is a sufferer of the disease, along with the ex-SOLDIER Cloud, and lives now in his hide-away home the Healin Lodge with his faithful bodyguards, the Turks. But who are the mysterious silver haired band, known as Kadaj's Gang? Kadaj, Loz and Yazoo, all of silver hair and teal eyes. Who are these strange people, who appear so much like Sephiroth?
 51. People sometimes moan that films aren't made for the fans, well this one is. If you know about this film give it 10 out of 10 and move on. However unless you are a die-hard fan, this is an impenetrable mess of a film. I did play Final Fantasy VII and loved it, some of the story shocked me other parts made my heart soar so I couldn't wait to see what had happened to my old friends. But I played it when it first came out which was back in the 1990's and as the years have moved on I have forgotten a lot about it. However I was intrigued enough to get the film.

It is simply the best looking computer animated film ever, but unless you have played the game recently or are totally submerged in the Final Fantasy lore this project doesn't work. I kept having "ah yes" moments as I watched and certain bits triggered long dormant memories but as a dramatic vehicle and a piece of cinema it fails almost completely.

Too often characters talk in convoluted ways as the antagonist politely waits for the dialogue to end and then a fight starts. That may work in a computer game but it's just bizarre in a film. There is no emotion going on in the film- people only speak to posture or give out plot points and this is followed by pretty pictures and action. The main bad guy turns up for no easily explainable reason and disappears just as strangely. I am sure the plot does make sense if you go back and play 50 hours plus of a game but does that make it great in it's own right? No If you're a fan you will have stopped reading a long time ago if you're not NEVER watch this film it's not meant for you. I seem to be the only fan that has been disappointed, maybe it's because I'm no longer a teenager!
 52. The guys at Square can certainly make those pixels jump. The graphics are very impressive for a straight to DVD release, but the writing is exactly what you might expect for the same. As someone who played, and liked, Final Fantasy VII I expected to be able to tolerate and follow the plot line. Unfortunately it was so convoluted and full of fanservice that I lost it soon after the movie started. Perhaps it's because Square felt that they had to shove every game character into the movie. While I liked the broad set of choices in the game ( somewhere in the neighborhood of a dozen playable characters ), the sheer number of supporting characters in the movie becomes quickly confusing.

As a final note, if you haven't played the game don't bother seeing the movie at all. The movie builds heavily on the plot of the game and will probably be totally unfathomable to anyone who hasn't played the game.

 54. Over 25 minutes of new plot scenes have been added the complete version as well as a lot of remastered scenes. Most of the new material are plot scenes and so far some new action scenes. It has something to do with a mistranslation in the game; Aerith is actually the correct translation of the name. I think it's because that a "th" in Japanese is similar to an "s" and the name in Japanese is "Earisu" so it's one of the few translation mistakes the English versions of the games have. She is called "Aerith" in all future Final Fantasy VII projects.

Also, Aerith was the original name because it is close to the word "earth."

If you watch the summary feature on the DVD with the subtitles, her name is given as "Aerith" also. Most of them are; Steve Burton and Christy Carlson Romano both play Cloud and Yuffie. Cid is not given a voice in KH1 but Chris Edgerley voices him in KH2. Also, Mandy Moore does not play Aerith in this, instead it's Mena Suvari who has the role in KH2. Lance Bass doesn't voice Sephiroth like he did in KH1, but rather it's George Newbern (a.k.a. Nooj in X-2), whom also voices him in KH2. Rachel Leigh Cook plays Tifa in this and KH2. No, despite rumours of this being the case. No, it is a sequel set two years after the game, except for the opening sequence with Red XIII which takes place 500 years after the gameShe is but mostly in dream sequences with Cloud but she is seen at the very end of the movie a5c7b9f00b
