  124.
  125.
  126. Use of Force Continuum
  127. The Use of Force Continuum is very simple. There are 4 stages of Use of Force, which I will list below…
  128.
  129. No Force Used (DEFAULT): Used when a suspect is cooperating or you are within the range to handcuff the suspect, then you may handcuff them.
  130.
  131. Taser: When a suspect is running away or towards you, you may use the taser if they do not cooperate with your orders.
  132.
  133. Physical Force: Used, when the suspect has engaged in non-lethal combat with officers, used only as a defensive measure to pacify the suspect, for their own safety and safety of officers and others.
  134.
  135. Lethal Force: Only to be used when an officer’s or civilians life is in immediate danger. Using lethal force is the highest level of force to be used. Lethal force is used until the subject stops their action and complies with officers.
  136. Strike System
  137. The strike system is straightforward and very short.
  138.
  139. 1 - Initial Strike: Given when you have broken the SoP of OSP. When issued, Supervisors and Command Staff will be watching you closely as they’ve been informed.
  140.
  141. 2 - Second Strike: This means you’ve broken the SoP twice. A meeting will be set up with a High Command officer, and you will be automatically suspended until after you have had a discussion with High Command.
  142.
  143. 3 - Final Strike: This is the final strike in the State Police. When you have broken the SoP three times, you will be placed on immediate leave and you will be terminated from the department.
