-Jalen and the 2 girls arrive in Dewford Town, home of the 1st PKMN Contest Hall for Rin to compete in.

-Rin is quite nervous to compete in it, but Lucina and Jalen give her the support she needs to do it, meanwhile Jalen go get a separate room from the 2 girls to leave them some privacy. As he prepare to take on the Gym Leader, Effie the Fighting Specialist.

-He get some info regarding her pokemon and head over to the Granite Cave to train his Pokemon, in the process he decided to catch a Zubat...and after 30 mins of trying to get a good one, he finally get one!

-After that, he decide to explores the cave and end up in a room with a giant, and somewhat creepy mural of 2 Super-Legendary Pokemon duking it out with a woman looking it over, she sees him and introduce herself as Corrin, A wandering trainer(Although she don't fool Jalen since he looked up Hoenn prior to coming here and know she's the champion, but keep it to himself) and a lover of the Hoenn history.

-They make small talk about the mural with Corrin thanking him for listening and give him the TM for Steel Wing and then leave him. Jalen takes one last look at the mural before getting shivers up his spine and leave as well

-He heal up at the PKMN Center and see Lucina and Rin on the shore going over Contest ideas, with Rin's Mudkip and Swablu making pretty ideas with their attacks. However, he hears some jeers and groans as Ashley is approaching the 2 girls and tries to put Rin down. But Rin strikes back and brutally dissect Ashley verbally, calling her a barbie doll at the age of 19.

-Ashley is very pissed and battles Rin with her Pansear and Panpour...a crowd come and watches as Rin defeat her quite smoothly..Embarrassed and angry, Ashley runs off to find Siegbert to comfort her. Jalen come up and praise Rin, although she is thankful, she tell him that Battles abhor her due to Pokemon getting hurt. Lucina hugs her and tell her she did a great thing.

-Jalen leaves them just in time to see Siegbert leaving the gym with Ashley hugging him closely, another group of media come towards him and praise him for his work, This time, Jalen sneaks past them and head inside to fight against Effie, the sweaty, but powerful Gym Leader.

-However, with the aid of Zubat,Kirlia, and Combusken...Jalen takes his 2nd badge and TM Bulk up from Effie. Afterwards, Effie and Jalen discuss things about Fighting types and he learns about how Hoenn Gym Leaders have different teams for different amount of badges the challengers have. Thankful for the advice, he leaves the gym and head over to the piers for the next cruise for Slateport. He sees Lucina and Rin nearby, learning that the contest is tonight, he wish Rin good luck in her 1st ever appearance with her being super nervous, but excited to win...Especially when Ashley is competing....

-The 2 girls stay in Dewford while Jalen head on over to Slateport City...
