  130. biodiversity? Why are various plants and&nbsp;animals distributed
  131. across the globe as they are? Why do communities&nbsp;have particular
  132. lineage compositions? These and other basic questions&nbsp;about
  133. modern living communities can be addressed by comparing them with
  134. those in deep time. I examine modern insect communities in&nbsp;comparison
  135. with the diverse and well preserved fifty million year old insect
  136. communities of the early Eocene Okanagan&nbsp; Highlands series of
  137. fossil sites in British Columbia, Canada and northern Washington,
  138. USA. </FONT></FONT>
