A Day of Rest

The day Fate returned from her mission with Soul and Maka was more peaceful than the others and she was glad for it.

	That night, the Obumbratio didn't even attack - which Fate found strange, so she stayed in the streets although no even one Obumbratio appeared - so she had a good sleep.

	The next day, the silver-haired girl woke up a little later than she did the last days in Death City since today there were no classes.

	"Man... I so needed this..." she sighed as she stretched.

	She got up and looked at a wardrobe that was in her room, and she wondered if it had any clothes, although she doubted it since she hadn't bought anything here. She walked to the wardrobe and opened it.

	"Wow, where did all this come from?" She asked, surprised that she saw a whole bunch of clothes. She tried on a yellow t-shirt and a pair of black shorts, and they fit perfectly.

	She left her apartment, though not before grabbing her goggles, and decided to walk around some since she didn't have anything better to do. When she got out of the building, however, she heard someone calling her name.

	"Hey, Fate!"

	It was Black*Star, Tsubaki at his side, and he had a basketball in his hand as both of them smiled Fate.

	She raised an eyebrow.

	Maka and Soul walked to the basketball court to meet the others; when Tsubaki called the other to see if they wanted to play basketball, she suggested calling Fate so she could relax and clear her mind, and everyone agreed.

	As the scythe meister and her partner arrived, they saw that everyone was already there, beside Stein and Spirit who were talking on a bench.

	"About time, slowpokes!" Black*Star shouted, throwing the ball to Soul.

	"It's Maka's fault. She's been messing around," Soul insisted as he caught the ball.

	"Shut up, Soul," Maka said with a pout.

	"Anyway, Fate, you know how to play, right?" Soul asked, bouncing the basketball.

	"Of course," Fate responded with a smile.

	"Great, let's make the teams."

	"It's good that you're here, Liz, this way the teams will have the same number of members," Tsubaki said, looking at the tall blonde.

	"Well, it's good to exercise once in a while," Liz said with a shrug.

	"Okay, the teams will be: Kid, Liz, Tsubaki, and Black*Star versus Maka, Patty, Fate, and me," Soul told them all.

	"That sounds a little unbalanced..." Maka muttered.

	"So we're doing the usual, right?" Black*Star asked with a grin.

	"Really, again?" Kid asked.

	"Yup, as always - the captain of the team that loses has to be punished," Soul answered.

	"I have a bade feeling about this..." Fate sighed.

	"I'm the captain of my team, of course," Black*Star said.

	"And since Fate is our new player, we'll name her our captain," Soul insisted, pointing at the silver-haired girl.

	"H-Hey, Soul, wait a moment, I-" Fate started when Patty suddenly put her cap on the silver-haired girl's head.

	"Here Fate, take the captain's cap," she said happily.

	Fate was completely astonished. "You guys tricked me..."

	"Okay, Fate, since I'm captain, I'll decide your punishment!" Black*Star said.

	"Let me guess, you want me to take you on a mission if we lose?"

	"That'd be great, but no. If my team wins, you'll give me your sword!"

	Everyone was speechless at what the ninja just said.

	"That's going too far," Kid said.

	"I think that's asking a bit too much," Liz agreed.

	"Black*Star, you can't make her do that!" Tsubaki said.

	Fate didn't say anything for a moment, but she looked over at Soul and Maka and they all started to laugh.

	"Hey, what's so funny!?" Black*Star asked.

	"Nothing, nothing," Soul insisted, still laughing a bit.

	"I accept," Fate said, shocking almost everyone. "But if my team wins, you'll shave your head completely bald."

	"She's... comparing Black*Star's hair to her sword..." Kid muttered.

	"Then shall we start?" Soul asked with a smile.

	"Let's play!" Patty cheered.

	After twenty minutes, the match finished with Black*Star's team as the winners by two points, and Black*Star was doing a dance of victory.

	"YAHOOO, I'm the God of basketball!" He shouted.

	Fate sighed. "Damn, we were so close... I would've liked to see a bald Black*Star."

	Soul chuckled. "You're not the only one."

	"Well, you won, so I have to give you this," Fate said as she summoned her sword.

	"Fate, you don't have to do it," Kid told her.

	"Hey, you guys won fair and square, and the deal was giving him my sword. Here you go, Captain Black*Star."

	Fate handed her sword to the ninja, who took it without any doubt.

	"Behold guys! Now I will be even stronger!" Black*Star shouted, but suddenly the sword vanished from his hand. The sword was now back in Fate's hand, and she shrugged with an innocent smile while Maka was giggling and Soul was trying not to laugh. "What the hell!?"

	"Sorry Black*Star, unless you're the magic's chosen user, you won't be able to wield weapons made out of the magic," Fate explained with a sheepish smile.

	"Thank God..." Kid sighed.

	"Wait! If you had won, you would have let me shave my head!?" Black*Star demanded.

	Fate laughed again. "Don't worry. I would've told you that I was tricking you... I think..."

	"Damn, I would've liked to use that sword," Black*Star sighed. "I would've called it "The Big Star Sword"!"

	"How original..." Maka muttered.

	"And Fate!" The ninja addressed the silver-haired girl. "You'll have to take Tsubaki and I with you on your next Obumbratio mission for tricking me!"

	Fate shrugged. "It would've been easier if you had asked that from the start."

	"That's Black*Star for you," Maka said. "He's always making things more difficult."

	They continued to play more matches, changing the team's members each time, and Fate couldn't believe that she was actually playing during her mission.

	"Geez, I'm so tired," Liz said. "We played a lot."

	"Hey, why don't we have lunch at Maka's place?" Black*Star offered.

	"Hey! Don't decide that yourself!" Maka yelled. "Besides, I thought you didn't like how I cook."

	"It's better than nothing," Black*Star said. Maka was about to throw her book at Black*Star when Tsubaki spoke up.

	"I think it's a good idea," she said.

	"Well, I don't mind, but you'll have to give me time to prepare the meal," Maka said.

	"Yay~! Party, party!" Patty cheered.

	"You'll come, right, Fate?" Soul asked, looking at the silver-haired girl.

	"Sure, I'll be there," Fate agreed as she put the cup back on Patty's head.

	Everyone left to their own houses to prepare for lunch.

	Later, all of them were eating at Soul and Maka's apartment.

	Fate sweatdropped when she saw Black*Star gobbling the food up like a pig, even though he said that Maka's cooking wasn't very good, and after some times, they all finished the meal - Black*Star looked like he was going to explode for eating too much.

	"Man, I'm full," Black*Star said.

	Maka looked annoyed at him. "Be more grateful, you jerk."

	"I think it was really good! Thank you for the food, Maka," Fate thanked, smiling at her friend.

	"It's nothing, really," Maka said bashfully.

	"Hey, Fate, where are you from?" Patty asked. "I'm curious!"

	"Ah... I'm from a small town called Sana," Fate responded.

	"Is your family there?" Maka asked.

	Fate shook her head and couldn't help but smile. "My papa is in a city named Auglire with a lot of the others in what we call "the revolution", even though we're the ones fighting against the darkness, and I've never met my mama."

	"What's your father like?"

	"He's great! He's friends with your father, Kid."

	Kid looked up. "Ah, Xenon, right...?"

	Fate nodded. "He can teleport! He's a great magic user, one of the best and most powerful, and he trains a lot of us other magic users - he's busy training some of my friends right now for the upcoming battle. I don't know much about my mama, but I heard the story of how they met - it's really... simple... for someone like him."

	"How'd they meet?" Liz asked, leaning forward on her elbows.

	"Well, he was out getting coffee and was running late for a meeting, and they bumped into each other. Hot coffee everywhere, but only on her! He helped her clean up and gave her his jacket even though it was freezing cold and he ran off because he was late, but she waited in the same spot for the next week just waiting for him, so she could give his jacket back and get his number."

	"Aww..."

	"Yeah, it was pretty cool to hear about. We never talk about mama because... well, she, uh... she fell to the darkness a long time ago, back when I was too little to even know her face..."

	All of the people in the room were now downcast. They couldn't look at Fate because they felt guilty, and everything was quiet until Tsubaki decided to break the silence.

	"We... we are sorry, Fate-chan," she apologized. "It must be difficult for you to remember these things."

	"Damn, we try to cheer you up and we depress you even more," Soul sighed.

	"I'm not depressed or anything!" Fate insisted, and everyone looked puzzled at her. "After finding out I was one of the chosen ones, I've traveled to so many places and met so many people and done so many things... it's a dream come true, honestly! I found my friends and learned so much about my family, and I got to save the universe from being destroyed! Sure, there's still a battle to be fought... but all of this gave me experience so I could become the person I am now."

	"Unbelievable," Kid said. "Most people would have given up, but you didn't."

	Fate gave him a bright smile.

	"Someone has to take care of the universe, right?"
