- [23:04] Silel: Exactly how far can he 'detect' attacks?
- [23:05] Scrumf: MLG
- [23:05] Silel: And exactly how fast is he?
- [23:05] Vincent Fiorelli: Normally he can keep an eye on anything that's at least a full kilometer around him, obviously after all the developments he's been through. The range varies depending on the situation and the place.
- [23:05] Vincent Fiorelli: And pretty fast.
- [23:06] Silel: Exactly. How. Fast.
- [23:07] Vincent Fiorelli: Well, if you really want to go by numbers, he can move up to 150 kilometers per second under the effect of a lightning enchantment.
- [23:08] Vincent Fiorelli: Which would be the equivalent of 540000 kilometers an hour.
- [23:08] Komogura: The barrier of course shattered from the impact.
- [23:09] Vincent Fiorelli: Let's just say that without that enchantment, bullets are very easy to dodge, regardless of where they come from.
- [23:17] Vincent Fiorelli: As a raw comparison, the A-10's bullets travel at roughly 2000 feet per second - or 609 metres per second - but while he could also deflect the MK 316 rounds - which moved at 2600 feet per second -, I think it's not that big of a stretch that he could avoid the airstrike.
- [23:20] Silel: An A-10 fires at 3,500ft/s, or Mach 3.1 with an effective range of around 1.25 kilometers and a maximum range of nearly 3.7 kilometers.
- [23:20] Silel: With a rate of fire of 4,200rpm, which translates into 70 rounds a second.
- [23:21] Silel: So, pretty 'epic' dodge.
- [23:25] Vincent Fiorelli: I wouldn't say epic. But then again, at that sort of distance, it's not all that tough to dodge a bullet with a character belonging to the higher tiers of combat.
- [23:25] Silel: I was being facetious.
- [23:26] Vincent Fiorelli: I noticed as much.
- [23:28] Silel: Oh and just so you know, a PPC fires a concentrated stream of protons or ions.
- [23:29] Scrumf: lazors~ o_o
- [23:30] Silel: Which travel at the speed of light.
- [23:30] Vincent Fiorelli: Now we're talkin'.
- [23:33] Komogura: If some technique or tech or the likes require multiple turns of preparation to fully activate, usually have to make remarks of its prep in a given post. Just a heads up
- [23:33] Vincent Fiorelli: Just like concealed equipment.
- [23:33] Vincent Fiorelli: Yes.
- [23:34] Silel: I did.
- [23:34] Silel: I did my first turn.
- [23:35] Silel: Just like calling in the A-10, that didn't appear right away either. I prepped both of them.
- [23:37] Vincent Fiorelli: I see nothing referencing that but I'll roll with it.
- [23:37] Silel: "Thissssssssss'll be fun," she hisses, one hand leaving the front of her weapon to tap her radio. "Ssssssstandby," she echoed into it, before switching to another frequency. "Caveman Actual thisssssssss issssssssss Cobra 1-1, gonna need sssssssome overwatch," She hummed into her headset, waiting a moment for the reply before returning her hand to the foregrip on her weapon, raising it into a low ready.
- [23:38] Vincent Fiorelli: Yes, I see the A-10 there.
- [23:38] Silel: There's your prep.
- [23:38] Vincent Fiorelli: Just not anything referencing the lasers.
- [23:38] Silel: The Standby was the the suit, not the A-10.
- [23:38] Silel: Was to the*
- [23:38] Vincent Fiorelli: Shady, but like I said, I'll roll with it.
- [23:39] Silel: Considering you pulled your knife out of the ground and managed to slice ten projectiles one right after the other, you're damned right.
- [23:39] Vincent Fiorelli: With a swordsmanship style that's designed to do that sort of thing plus doesn't even belong to high tier combat. More like mid tier.
- [23:40] Vincent Fiorelli: If that sort of thing rustles your jimmies, you should probably take a look at the profile of my character.
- [23:41] Scrumf is mid tier, Ken/Marr is high tier and Silel using only KRAV MAGA [youtube.com] is low tier since she is the most down to earth.
- [23:41] Scrumf: :P
- [23:43] Silel: Explain to me how many people can use it, cause on the wikia I'm looking at, it only states one person as having the ability to deflect bullets, let alone "surgically cut them in half"
- [23:44] Vincent Fiorelli: I can use it. That's all you need to know.
- [23:44] Silel: K.
- [23:44] Vincent Fiorelli: If you want the full description of the style...
- [23:44] Vincent Fiorelli: Shinmeiryuu [A.05]
- 神鳴流
- The blade of exorcism that defends the people and defeats the demon.
- The “most powerful combat organisation,” a martial school based in Kyoto and headed by founding family 青山 Aoyama. Due to its location, it is deeply connected to the Kansai Magic Association – Shinmeiryuu swordsmen frequently serve as guards to the Association’s 陰陽術師 onmyoujutsushi.
- The core of the style revolves around the 野太刀 nodachi and the exorcising of great demons, a task which its wide sweeping techniques are best suited for, including even countermeasures for magical beasts not native to Japan. However, the school has expanded far beyond its original purpose, and also teaches other weapons and forms of fighting: qi training, unarmed combat, onmyoudou, and various swordsmanship forms.
- Sword
- To give an idea of the speed at which these attacks are performed, it is noted that Shinmeiryuu as a sword style is something against which projectiles, including bullets, are completely ineffective.
- [23:44] Vincent Fiorelli: There it is.
- [23:45] Vincent Fiorelli: Obviously that's not taking into account the individual characters employing the style.
- [00:02] Komogura: My post?
- [00:04] Komogura: Hello?
- [00:04] Vincent Fiorelli: Posted.
- [00:06] Komogura: That cerulean comment keeps drawing my eyes. Reminds me of Incarnum to an extent
- [00:06] Vincent Fiorelli: It's just the physical manifestation of mana in the material plane around and within him.
- [00:06] Komogura: The blue coloration would more indicate Incarnum. Magic's ancesstor
- [00:07] Vincent Fiorelli: Possibly, yes. I'm just not that well versed in DnD, so I tend not to pull from it.
- [00:08] Komogura: Well the Incarnum concept is a tad obscure since it only showed up in one supplemental book publication.
- [00:10] Vincent Fiorelli: Hm. I see.
- [00:12] Komogura: Komogura could be best summed up as a sapphire heiarch/cerebremancer at its current stage of combat use.
- [00:12] Silel: The lazers strafed his waist, so unless every nano-meter was covering in these "reflecting stones" then he's gonna suffer a little more than just burn damage. Not even just that, unless the covered the entire circumference of the PPC, it'd do more than just "burn his robes a lil'"
- [00:12] Komogura: Sapphire Heiarch is a divine/incarnum niche while cerebremancer is an arcane/divine niche.
- [00:12] Silel: Not only to that effect, it's Battle Armor, not a Mech.
- [00:12] Komogura: arcane/psionic niche*
- [00:13] Vincent Fiorelli: I did mention it was a battle armor.
- [00:13] Komogura: There is a difference
- [00:13] Silel: Before mentioning three BattleMechs.
- [00:14] Komogura: Battle armor is something worn by the user and is typically around the same size or a size larger than the intended user. While a mecha typically denotes something that has to be piloted and is typically quite large. 5x Or more
- [00:14] Scrumf: Gundam vs Iron man
- [00:14] Vincent Fiorelli: Indeed.
- [00:16] Komogura: Good reference... much shorter but reference intensive... komo's preparing to summon her supernatural variant of battle armor. Mentioned in profile as overlay armors.
- [00:16] Komogura: I did get a nudge inspired by Iron Man and had komo create a few supernatural variants of her own.
- [00:17] Vincent Fiorelli: Yeah. I read them. They're pretty good.
- [00:17] Scrumf: Cold iron man.
- [00:17] Scrumf: Cause DR/Cold iron :P
- [00:21] Komogura: Pbtbtbt, Cold Iron ain't got shit on Incarnum Armor
- [00:21] Komogura: constant effect, free quicken spell. Takes 6 turns to summon though.
- [00:21] Komogura: 3 for overlimit. 1 for a T1 armor. 2 for T2 armor
- [00:21] Vincent Fiorelli: I might kick it up a notch and delve into some more basic spells.
- [00:22] Komogura: Bull's Strength and the likes Vincent.
- [00:22] Komogura: Once Komo hits Overlimit, things can get real ugly really fast.
- [00:23] Komogura: Cat's Grace and Bull's Strength. That'd at least keep you safer for a period.
- [00:23] Vincent Fiorelli: Hah. Bull's Strength would be the equivalent of Cantus or Melodia Bellax for him, with the only exception that those increase all his base attributes along with a few other things.
- [00:23] Vincent Fiorelli: The latter consumes mana continuously while the former is a one time enchantment.
- [00:24] Vincent Fiorelli: Basically and out of the magic document I have for him:
- Cantus Bellax
- Song of Battle. A form of physical reinforcement used by a mage in preparation for close combat. Aside from providing a long-lasting anti-physical shield, this magic also exponentially increases muscle tension, allowing greater power, speed and endurance; it also increases the flexibility of muscles and tendons to prevent the mage damaging himself from overexertion. In addition, the mage’s reflexes are enhanced by a moderate increase in the stimulation of the nervous system.
- [00:24] Komogura: If only you knew a technique like overlimit. Why use up an internal pool of energy when it exists in the open air?
- [00:25] Vincent Fiorelli: Because he can draw power both from within him and from the world around him.
- [00:25] Vincent Fiorelli: Drawing power from the world is already basic knowledge for people dealing with magic in various lores.
- [00:25] Komogura: Oh, so he would have techniques along the same lines as komo in that respect then.
- [00:25] Komogura: Though magic is not the only supernatural source of power.
- [00:25] Vincent Fiorelli: Mainly because their bodies usually can't accommodate the immense amount of power required for some spells.
- [00:25] Vincent Fiorelli: Indeed.
- [00:26] Komogura: Komo knows of 6 and can harness 4 in battle. 1 Due to fear she cannot and the other because she has barely begun to understand it and it is very energy intensive just to really use it in a practical sense beyond item creation techniques.
- [00:29] Vincent Fiorelli: The thing with this character - and the main reason why he usually doesn't employ enhancements - is due to the fact that his basic parameters are already high enough. Development over eight years pretty much made him go from a low-tier character to high-tier. Comparatively speaking, his mental processing speed is close to that of a state-of-the-art supercomputer, which influences his reaction time amongst several other things. It was all as a result of fighting people stronger than him over a long period of time plus passively employing the techniques of 'Reinforcement' found under the magic school he adopted as his own.
- [00:30] Vincent Fiorelli: But like I said, speed is relative. Adjusting to match the opposition is far better than fighting to be overpowering.
- [00:34] Silel: You know, Vincent, I'm still waiting for a response on how 'bits and pieces' of stone manage to stop two strafing lasers and an energy shot capable of splitting you in two.
- [00:36] Scrumf: A wizard did it. :/
- [00:38] Komogura: Let's resolve this in terms of prep. How many turns preparation went into the attack?
- [00:38] Silel: Mine?
- [00:38] Komogura: Yes
- [00:40] Silel: Four of my own turns, or eleven turns if you include one turn for every person.
- [00:40] Vincent Fiorelli: Oh, right. That also ties in with his robes. In actuality, they're more of a skinsuit that shift to cater the user's needs, whether they're purely for aesthetic purposes or defensive ones. Basically, the fabric is laced with a material of his own creation - roughly made around three years back if my memory doesn't fail me. Said material resonates with the enchantments placed on the robes, which aim to dissipate and nullify energy from kinetic, psychokinetic, and metaphysical energies by releasing a similar quantity like a barrier or shield of sorts. The quantity of energy stored and released depends on what happens in the battle, on the physical or magical attacks enacted, and on how these affected the robes.
- [00:41] Vincent Fiorelli: Also four of your own turns haven't been used in preparing the suit.
- [00:41] Vincent Fiorelli: It was one questionable prep.
- [00:41] Vincent Fiorelli: Considering it wasn't mentioned anywhere else and the only 'prep' that you can justify is a "standby."
- [00:41] Komogura: One turn counts for when YOU post
- [00:41] Scrumf: Lasers were flat out one turn iirc?
- [00:42] Vincent Fiorelli: Lasers were a regular attack as far as I'm concerned.
- [00:42] Komogura: And it really should be denoted each turn something's prepping.
- [00:42] Vincent Fiorelli: There was no prior build-up of power registered anywhere.
- [00:42] Komogura: I'd consider it a 1 turn prep attack considering it took a turn of prep to ready it at all.
- [00:42] Komogura: Now Vincent
- [00:43] Komogura: The defensive ability used, number of turns of prep going into it?
- [00:43] Vincent Fiorelli: Technically as much time as the spell took.
- [00:43] Vincent Fiorelli: So that'd be one turn as well.
- [00:43] Komogura: I'd say 1 but with having...
- [00:43] Scrumf says they could flip?
- [00:43] Komogura: a: the offensive spell in play
- [00:43] Komogura: and
- [00:44] Komogura: b: a turn where the conversion took place. Which means the attack has to of been weakened at least in the localized region to balance.
- [00:44] Komogura: Techniques used are about balance
- [00:45] Komogura: Now seeing as the earth element is defensive in nature, and the robes are capable of absorbing energy like a sponge, provided it's not used to actually harm the recipient, it's fair to say it would also be a 1 turn defensive prep and the cloak activated a defensive ability, but used up all earth magics it absorbed in the process.
- [00:46] Komogura: That way no nasties from earth magic absorption while still surviving a marginally more painful attack. Even factoring in the energy-based attack was more technological based.
- [00:46] Vincent Fiorelli: As the final outcome, I actually had the armor destroyed and some minor burns on the robes. That's damage incurred so the outcome was positive for her.
- [00:47] Komogura: armor destroyed being the earth magic effect being nulled right?
- [00:47] Vincent Fiorelli: Pretty much.
- [00:47] Komogura: I can understand earth magic being able to generate a barrier, as my post clearly indicated.
- [00:47] Vincent Fiorelli: The armor was destroyed due to the impact.
- [00:48] Komogura: Perhaps for future reference, it should be a magic barrier, not a supernatural armor
- [00:48] Komogura: That way it better explains its all encompassing defensive properties.
- [00:48] Komogura: Just to clear this argument up and prevent future ones. Sound good?
- [00:48] Vincent Fiorelli: http://flightoftheomniverse.net/thread/26/magister Probably something that's a must to read before assuming his capabilities as being 'weak.'
- [00:48] Vincent Fiorelli: Now lemme get to posting.~
- [00:49] Komogura: We all have to fight at equal footing. The very nature of the dojo forces all combatants at the start to fight on even footing. The only way to gain an edge is through technique and strategy.
- [00:50] Komogura: It is mentioned on profile last I knew
- [00:50] Komogura: Trust me, I didn't like certain aspects of the room, but I adapted the concept for komo, and actually transformed her abilities to what it is now over time.
- [00:51] Vincent Fiorelli: Oh, I am aiming for the equal footing aspect, don't get me wrong. But when you're met with attempts at getting insta-killed, it sort of forces me to draw on more of the character's higher end.
- [00:52] Silel: An attack that did fuck all with zero turns of prepping to dodge it.
- [00:53] Vincent Fiorelli: Still not sure why you're so sour about it. I've been pretty 'light' in this fight so far.
- [00:57] Silel: Because you god-modded your way out of it.
- [00:58] Vincent Fiorelli: Pray tell how.
- [00:59] Silel: You dodged an attack well out of your perception range, with zero defensive preps and took literally no damage. That's how.
- [01:00] Vincent Fiorelli: Except when the bullets enter my perception range, given the natural mental processing speed this character has, the capability to sense what's going on in his surroundings, and the telltale sign of a plane strike being called down on him, coupled with the bullets piercing through the roof, defensive preps are completely unnecessary, given that the only thing that needs to be done is move out of the way.
- [01:01] Vincent Fiorelli: Don't get pissy because your autokills with bullets don't work.
- [01:01] Komogura: It didn't have to autokill but no autododge either
- [01:01] Komogura: Could graze
- [01:01] Silel: I'm not talking about autokills, I'm talking about zero fucking damage. You evade every attack with flawlessness
- [01:01] Komogura: Also the heightened perception *helps*
- [01:01] Komogura: Even Spider-man cannot dodge them all.
- [01:02] Scrumf twiddles his thumbs and continues to contribute little to nothing at all. :x
- [01:02] Silel: Seventy rounds a second. Even if the other 130 rounds were dodged completely, you will still have to deal with 70 30mm anti-tank rounds.
- [01:03] Silel: Even if one had grazed you I wouldn't have said shit. But you nope-dodged them all.
- [01:06] Komogura: Could correct it with finding a bullet or two having been ignored until now. Add in a half dozen graze marks now acting up to boot.
- [01:07] Silel: Doesn't matter now.
- [01:07] Silel: I don't even care at this point, I'm done.
- [01:07] Komogura: Feel free to back out. Vincent. If an auto dodge does happen I will ask Ken to deliberate.
- [01:07] Komogura: again given Silel's statement.
- [01:08] Vincent Fiorelli: An auto dodge is generally teleportation. That didn't occur. And Ken would probably side with me knowing the kind of character this is.
- [01:09] Vincent Fiorelli: She can get pissy all she wants but when an attack doesn't work, it shouldn't be bitching the first thing she should be looking at.
- [01:09] Vincent Fiorelli: It should be strategy.
- [01:09] Vincent Fiorelli: As far as I've seen, she has no more strategy other than what seems to be an attempt at a sharp tongue and numbers thrown off the top of her head.
- [01:09] Komogura: Yet not getting hit by a single attack and perfectly avoiding every hit is grounds for the same accusation. To that extent I can see where Silel is coming from. Even a 'several bullets got WAY too close for comfort' kind of post would be better.
- [01:09] Komogura: Plus that kind of element to a post adds tension.
- [01:10] Vincent Fiorelli: And that's an observation that I'll keep in mind for future engagements.
- [01:11] Silel: once the very first round of the airstrike breached the thin wall of the dojo, a swift kick of his right foot off of the ground followed to take his body away from the affected location.
- [01:11] Silel: You're telling me
- [01:11] Silel: A kick off the ground AFTER the bullets had already entered the dojo, was enough to dodge all of them?
- [01:12] Komogura: Simultaneously and it's way too close for comfort would be more acceptible?
- [01:12] Vincent Fiorelli: Considering you aimed at a single spot, based on your own description...
- [01:12] Vincent Fiorelli: I mean, if you don't like it, describe your own attacks better.
- [01:12] Komogura: Don't play that card
- [01:12] Komogura: Please don't
- [01:12] Vincent Fiorelli: But I can play that card.
- [01:12] Vincent Fiorelli: Considering her description is lacking.
- [01:13] Silel: I mean, if you want to god-mod away attacks, please feel free.
- [01:13] Komogura: I had a metagamer to all hell use that against me when I was in overlimit. A 3 turn offensive prep. It should have had a single attack, at least one, hit.
- [01:13] Vincent Fiorelli: Either way, it doesn't matter to me. What I saw was an attempt at ending the fight right there while she assumed it would hit.
- [01:13] Vincent Fiorelli: It didn't hit.
- [01:13] Vincent Fiorelli: Deal with it.
- [01:13] Vincent Fiorelli: Bitching doesn't move a fight along.
- [01:13] Komogura: Read what I said Vincent because that 'describe your attacks better' comment hit a nerve for me.
- [01:14] Vincent Fiorelli: Why would it hit a nerve for you?
- [01:14] Vincent Fiorelli: It's obvious description is important.
- [01:14] Komogura: The ammount of preparation into something matters MORE
- [01:14] Silel: Two seconds passed where nothing happened before about two hundred rounds of 30mm depleted-uranium ammunition filtered through the thin Dojo wall and peppered the man's position.
- [01:14] Vincent Fiorelli: ... Except it usually doesn't when you lean towards the higher tiers of combat.
- [01:14] Silel: 'Position' being the key word.
- [01:14] Silel: I didn't say peppered you solely, the position you were in.
- [01:15] Vincent Fiorelli: And the preparation for a bullet wouldn't exactly add or take power from it when it's a regular projectile attack.
- [01:15] Vincent Fiorelli: If you solely think in terms of preps, there's no strategy. It's just powerbuilding.
- [01:15] Vincent Fiorelli: Been there, done that.
- [01:15] Komogura: It is a good gauge.
- [01:15] Komogura: Not an absolute, but a strong factor
- [01:16] Vincent Fiorelli: Position being the key word, yes, and the dodge took me closer to you, in which case the bullets would've torn you apart if that was the case?
- [01:16] Komogura: Now if the character is capable of say resisting mind control. Then resisting the occasional 1 turn prep mental attack is not out of the question
- [01:17] Vincent Fiorelli: To be fair, this character is pretty similar to Beramode presently, so if you have qualms with the way I play him, you should've probably read the profile beforehand.
- [01:17] Vincent Fiorelli: Everything I've done in this fight so far hasn't even tapped into the character's potential.
- [01:18] Silel: That style never suited him, and his clear disdain was made manifest when he quite literally phased through one of the stone spears, signaling a masterful degree in the manipulation of his own spells, only to rush straight for Silel at breakneck speeds. The stone spear dissipated after the fact, leaving a void in the line of spikes originally intended to impale through Scrumf, but that did not particularly bother the magister. What had occurred here was the application of one of his four speed techniques - the Shundou. Also known as 'instant movement' by focusing a small amount of qi or mana into the feet - or throughout his entire body as Vincent did it -, the practitioner could cross a limited distance in a burst of extreme speed, which was usually quick enough to appear almost instantaneous.
- [01:18] Silel: Bruh, you didn't dodge close to me if you had to flash-step to get to me.
- [01:19] Vincent Fiorelli: The point I was trying to make is that the dodge took me toward you, not that the dodge was done next to you.
- [01:19] Vincent Fiorelli: In which case the bullets landed nowhere near me.
- [01:20] Komogura: Let's say for all intents and purposes there were numerous near hits and a handful of grazes, he didn't realize it at the time, and it is some damage but not much. Compromise there and be happy.
- [01:21] Silel: You two can fight on without me, I'm gonna hit the hay.
