  1. Transcript of meeting between BILL DENBROUGH, represented by JANINE DONAHUE with DYLAN CAMPBELL on behalf of RICHIE TOZIER.
  2.
  3. DYLAN: Janine, Mr. Denbrough, really pleased to have you in the office today. I’m here on behalf of my client Richie Tozier who’s working with your client Bill Denbrough on the upcoming film NEIBOLT.
  4.
  5. Dylan, to BILL: Mr. Denbrough. You are so incredibly talented, he’s SO excited to be working with you— I know you go WAY back but Richie is absolutely HONORED to be working with you on this project— I can’t emphasize that enough.
  6.
  7. JANINE: Yes, yes. I think we’re all on the same page here. If we could get to the meat of this meeting.
  8.
  9. DYLAN: Right! [He claps his hands in front of him] So. Richie Tozier, as you know, has been under fire with certain media outlets for a string of tweets that directed towards several well known celebrities that were all fairly benign in nature. Though, in media, narrative is king, which is why we’re here today! To spin a new story that will benefit both your client, Bill Denbrough, and my client, Richie Tozier. Slow me down if I’m going too fast! But I’m SO excited about this one!
  10.
  11. [DYLAN LOOKS BETWEEN THE TWO OF THEM]
  12.
  13. DYLAN: I’ve been working with the marketing team on a special teaser visual featuring Richie. Despite his silence on social media and the recent negative press, the marketing team was planning on moving forward with an influencer spot on Richie’s social in the next week. But I have a proposal for you. Due to his silence on social media, I thought why not instead, drop the key visual on his best friend, Bill Denbrough’s social channels.
  14.
  15. [A BEAT]
  16.
  17. DYLAN: Mr. Denbrough, I know Richie is a good friend of yours, and I’ll be honest he hasn’t been in the best of sorts since his latest twitter moment, and I would like to formally apologize as his PR agent that I let it get to this point. I have failed him as a client, but I know that if anyone can help him right now, it’s you and your genuine love for your best friend. My proposal is that Bill drops the teaser visual with some kind of heartfelt copy—something like, “I can’t believe I get to work with my best friend on a horror movie based on our childhood. Join me and @fuckrichie on a journey into NEIBOLT!”
  18.
  19. JANINE: Stop right there, What you’re proposing is crazy, and the marketing team would never agree to something like this. They’d be losing an entire marketing beat if my client were to drop the teaser visual with such little preplanning
  20.
  21. DYLAN: I’ve actually already been working with my friend the marketing team on determining the timing for a teaser visual drop. And because Richie’s in hot water, it’s currently less appealing to his marketing team right ne to have it dropped on his pages. Additionally this would free up a spot in Richie’s contract to make a post with their tracked UTMs from his social media. The trade off here is that Bill would have to tweet with the marketing team’s UTMs, and he would need to give our marketing team access to his personal account. I can work out the details with your team later— but technically it would be going about and beyond Bill’s contract to make an advertisement of the caliber on his personal account. I also have connections to Buzzfeed, People, Variety, and E!, and I could call a few favors to get this announcement up as soon as 9am tomorrow. I even already have the visual if you’d like to take a look.
  22.
  23. [DYLAN TURNS HIS COMPUTER AROUND AND SHOWS THEM THE KEY VISUAL. JANINE’S ARMS ARE FOLDED, BILL HAS A TINY SMILE ON HIS FACE.]
  24.
  25. JANINE: I’ll give it to you, you’ve seemed to think of everything. But what about Bill’s personal brand? Won’t he take fire for refusing to address Richie’s behavior and instead promoting their movie, i.e. selling out?
  26.
  27. DYLAN: As another form of apology for my missteps as Richie’s PR manager, I’d like to formally offer to pay for an evening of drinking, all on me, during which Richie will make a post that sounds like him for the first time in a month. If his good friend Bill Denbrough is there, this will seem like nothing more than two childhood friends who care about each other very much taking a huge step in their careers together. And of course, the headlines tomorrow that I will be facilitating will have a positive spin! The thing is, it has to be tomorrow.
  28.
  29. JANINE: I think there’s a risk, but ultimately I leave it up to Mr. Denbrough.
  30.
  31. [BILL NODS SERIOUSLY, PRETENDING AS THOUGH HE HADN’T ALREADY MADE A DECISION TO HELP RICHIE WHEN HE WALKED IN.]
  32.
  33. BILL: You know I would do anything to help Richie. I’ve been doing it since this project started, and I owe it him for being one of my best friends and greatest source of inspiration. Tell me what I need to do.
  34.
  35. DYLAN SMILES AND CLASPS HIS HANDS TOGETHER, HOLDING BACK HIS REACTION.
  36.
  37. DYLAN: Step 1, either revise my copy or give me the okay to have it scheduled for tomorrow at 9am PT. I’ll have the articles go out at 9:10am PT. Two: give me the okay to work with your team to set up the paid marketing with your account. And 3, make sure to have a really good time when you’re hanging out with Richie tonight. Don’t worry about making the post, I’ll have that handled too.
  38.
  39. JANINE: Do we have to add a link to the posts? It would seem less like an ad if we didn’t.
  40.
  41. DYLAN: Unfortunately, the metric they’re looking for is click-through.
  42.
  43. JANINE: It’s up to Bill.
  44.
  45. BILL: I’m just grateful you’re letting me write the post at all. I wouldn’t be so quick to agree if I was relying on someone else to ghostwrite how I feel about Richie. I’ll let my marketing team know.
  46.
  47. DYLAN: As long as they have the copy in the next two hours, you can say whatever you want.
  48.
  49. BILL: I can do that, no problem.
  50.
  51. DYLAN: Sounds GREAT! I’ll look forward to your email! I really look forward to working with both of you on promoting the upcoming film. It’s going to be an instant classic.
  52.
  53. [DYLAN LOOKS LIKE HE’S ON THE VERGE OF TEARS.]
  54.
  55. DYLAN: Thank you , thank you SO much. I’ll tell Richie first thing in the morning.
  56.
  57. JANINE: Good work, Dylan. I have another appointment, but I trust you’ll work out the rest of this. Bill, take it easy out there. Tell Richie I said hi.
  58.
  59. [JANINE SMILES AT BILL, THEN AT DYLAN, BEFORE LEAVING. ONCE THE DOOR CLOSES BEHIND HER, DYLAN SLAPS HIS HANDS OVER HIS FACE, MUFFLING HIS VOICE.]
  60.
  61. DYLAN (muffled): I can’t FUCKING believe that WORKED!!
  62.
  63. [IT’S THE FIRST TIME BILL’S HEARD HIM CURSE. BILL SMILES BACK.]
  64.
  65. BILL: I wasn’t worried at all. You’re really good at what you do, Dylan. Thanks for always being there for Richie.
  66.
  67. [BILL SEEMS BE IMPLYING MORE THAN HE PREVIOUSLY LET ON. DYLAN RECOMPOSES HIMSELF BEFORE SPEAKING.]
  68.
  69. DYLAN: It’s my job to care about my clients. And I assure you the relationship is purely professional.
  70.
  71. DYLAN, smiling at BILL: But the me of four years ago would have been so fucking happy to hear you say that.
