  1. [16:57] Arina takes a deep breath. "... They didn't tell us how they made the Outriders."
  2. [16:57] IcePickLobotomy "Not really, they grow them right?"
  3. [16:59] Arina nods. "... From the Intruders."
  4. [17:00] IcePickLobotomy "I. . what?" her voice goes high and straiend "I, we're in those. . things? And when. . Oh, oh no. noonono. . "

  6. [17:03] Arina "Shhh. They're not in there."
  7. [17:04] Arina "I was... bothered by this for a while, but they aren't the Intruders."
  8. [17:05] Arina "They're made from them, but they are ours."
  9. [17:05] IcePickLobotomy "And what about that time one got loose? That's what happened isn't it?"
  10. [17:07] Arina nods. "It is. But that one /was/ an exception. They did something different, experimental, in constructing it. It was /only/ true of that one unit."

  12. [17:08] Arina "Tell you what, we'll give your unit a close look once you get here?"
  13. [17:09] IcePickLobotomy "I. ." You hear a thump on the other end of the phone "I'd like that."
  14. [17:12] Arina "You'd probably rather not have known, but... it didn't feel right to keep it secret, I just didn't really know how to tell you."
  15. [17:12] IcePickLobotomy "Not like there's a easy way of saying it. . " She mutters bitterly
  16. [17:14] Arina "There really isn't, not this late. And they didn't want to tell us."
  17. [17:14] IcePickLobotomy "Makes sense."
  18. [17:17] Arina smiles bitterly. "We might have refused."
  19. [17:17] IcePickLobotomy "How. . how badly did you take it?"
  20. [17:19] Arina "... Very. It took me a while to work it out."
  21. [17:19] Arina "In the end... they aren't the Intruders. They're like dogs, you know?"
  22. [17:19] IcePickLobotomy "Uh, maybe?"
  23. [17:19] Arina "Wolves were humanity's enemy, but we made our companions from them."
  24. [17:20] Arina "A wolf is still bad, but a dog isn't a wolf, even if it was made from one."
  25. [17:24] IcePickLobotomy "And dogs go bad all the time, remember when Mother told us not to go out after dark cuz of that pack of feral dogs?"

  30. [17:29] IcePickLobotomy "We'd be better off scrapping them all once we're done."
  31. [17:31] Arina purses her lips. "I don't know... I can see arguments, but..."
  32. [17:34] IcePickLobotomy "But what?" A edge of anger now, "What's the point of even having them when we're done with them?"
  33. [17:36] Arina sighs. "Well... for one it seems like a kind of poor reward for serving well."
  34. [17:36] Arina "But on a more practical note... where did the Intruders come from?"
  35. [17:36] Arina "Are there really only seven in all the universe?"
  36. [17:37] IcePickLobotomy ". . . Well that's what the Mass Production model is for."
  37. [17:40] Arina sighs. "I'm not sure."
  38. [17:40] IcePickLobotomy "Well what else would they build them for?"
  39. [17:45] Arina "Well, that's the argument in favour of scrapping them."
  40. [17:45] Arina "I don't know how much footage you've watched, but... militarily, an Outrider is pretty close to being a superpower, on its own. I'm... a little scared what's going to happen once everyone's satisfied the world's not going to end."
  41. [17:59] IcePickLobotomy ". . . Does it have to your problem though?"

  43. [18:02] Arina "Well, we're still going to be /living/ in that world, so it's more our problem than it is the people making it."
  44. [18:03] IcePickLobotomy She huffs into the phone unhappily
  45. [18:06] Arina shakes her head. "I know, right?"
  46. [18:07] IcePickLobotomy "So, I. . I'm feeling a tad overwhelmed."
