- Luis,
- I am taking the time to email you because I was very dissatisfied with my Kia experience yesterday. I was in the market to buy a Kia Forte 5-Door with built in Nav, bluetooth, backup cam, etc.
- I dealt with Dexter, and while he wasn't overly kind, he was nice and gave me the information I needed. I wasn't dissatisfied with him at all. His first offer to me was $19,275 (I might be slightly off in the 75, but it was close to this), with a $3,000 down payment. This included my trade-in of a 2003 Hyundai Elantra at the $5000 minimum.
- As this was simply just the sticker price listed on the vehicle, I told Dexter that I wasn't interested. He asked what I wanted to see and I told him $10,000 out the door. He obviously said this wasn't possible, so I asked him to do the best that he could and we would go from there. He said "If I could get the starting price from $25,000 to $21,000 would that be something you would be interested in?" (this would bring the price out the door to $18,275). I said it would be close, but that I believed he could do better.
- At this point, Dexter left and came back a few minutes later with a man in a suit. I, unfortunately didn't get his name, mostly because I could only understand about every other word he said due to a thick accent, but he immediately went into sales mode with me. He asked on a scale of 1-10 what would I rate the car. I told him 8, and when asked, I simply said that it wasn't a Dodge Viper and therefore wouldn't be a 10. We ran around this point in circles for another minute, with me simply telling him all I wanted to see was his best possible price. He was more interested in trying to sell me on the car I already wanted.
- Eventually, he showed me the "invoice" for the car that I wanted and said that "he" paid $20,000 for it, so where did I get $10,000? (this was obviously a ridiculous statement because we both know that "he" didn't buy anything, and that while that is the number that gets put on paper, Kia rebates you a bunch after the sale of that car, but this isn't a line unique to your dealership, so I'm not holding that against him or you).
- I simply said (for roughly the 10th time in the last 5 minutes) what is the best price he could do out the door? He said $23,500. Seeing as how this is over $1000 higher than the first offer I was given, I was taken aback. I asked and he said that the price difference from $19.2 to $23.5 was because of the $3000 down payment. Now, I may not be a math teacher, but $19.2 + $3 is $22.2 thousand, not $23.5.
- The ridiculous price offered by the gentleman was only slightly irritating compared to his attitude toward me. I entered the store and told Dexter that I wanted to buy a car and that I was interested in purchasing the Forte and possibly a Sadona as well. I told him that I wanted options for either finance or purchasing cash. When they scanned my ID they found that I had been to KIA before in the last 6 months, looking at the same vehicle. I've been in sales before, and had I seen all these signs, I would have bent over backwards to sell me a car. Instead, I was met with disdain and irritation from the sales manager at your location.
- I am still in the market for this car, so I will be heading to another KIA dealer today. I just wanted to take the time to let you know what your managers are doing and saying to your customers.
- Thank you for taking the time to set up an automated email that seems personal to all the customers that enter your dealership.
- Thanks,
