  1. A brief statement from me on the "Go Right: GamerGate and AfD" article. I wrote the article because it was above all about the ability of the AfD to engage in groups that are disappointed - or for whatever reason - or angry.
  2. From the beginning my endeavor was to write no article, which only draufhaut. In my opinion, this is not helpful, on the other hand it does not help. The established media, for which I work, among other things, have not been able to prevent the AfD's election success either through this tactic, and the counterparts can only reach the end of the group. So I took the trouble to get in touch with someone from the scene. From the outset I disclosed what it was about, both parties had an audio record of the conversation, which was not intended for publication, but only as reinsurance for false statements. Markus Rübsamen got all his statements in the context of the blessing - some of these statements are no longer contained in the finished text was no slanderous practice, but has a very simple reason: the text was too long - seven pages and frayed. It was shortened in several variants and cut to the right. A common and ethically impeccable practice in journalism. The remaining statements, however, were not torn out or distorted. 3. Anyone who has worked with me in the course of this project will be able to confirm that I am always acknowledged that the article does not contain any author's rating. That I had the statements of my interviewee always treated with prudence to avoid implications. One of the main reasons why the GamerGater is being upset on Twitter is the fact that the Amadeu Antonio Foundation, which is called "Stasi Foundation" by opponents because of its chairman Anetta Kahane.
  4. In short, a word: Yes, Anaetta Kahane once spied on the GDR. As early as 1982, however, she recognized the mendacity of state-imposed antifascism on foreign journeys and became a declared opponent of the GDR and broke her cooperation with the MfS. In her autobiography from 2004, she elaborated extensively on her stamina and her break with the GDR. In addition, the Amadeu Antonio Foundation, founded in 1998, stands up against racism. This activity has nothing in common with the Stasi's approach.
  5. Ultimately, the statements of the Amadeu Antonio Foundation are not from Kahane, but from Miro Dittrich, who certainly had never to do with the Stasi.
  6. In addition, it is criticized that I had read only one-sided media and therefore formed a "wrong" opinion. However, I have read all the sources that have been made available to me by the GamerGaters. However, these sources were in my opinion as a journalist either partisan, not official, blogs were without imprint, or in their overall context, not coherent enough. Finally, in the final fact-check of the article, everything was cut short which did not withstand critical observation.
  7. The statement that the text in the text and the text proposed by the Amadeu-Antonio Foundation contained a planned coloring, I therefore reject - because the parties concerned would not have protested if their statements were alone and only their sources were mentioned would. With the AfD-Heidelberg and the GamerGate-blogge Rübsamen the two parties in the text to the word it is. In fact, I've also tried to hold the speech portions in about the same length, which of course does not always work.
  8. Since the publication of this text, however, it has simply been called out that it is false statements that on this subject of the text there is a restriction of freedom of expression, or statements are made, as in this text all GamerGaters would be Nazis disappointed me. Because that is not in the text. It is differentiated, movements and voter migrations are shown, and ultimately real similarities of AfD and Gamergate. In most of the comments, whether on Reddit, Twitter or under the article is not even addressed to the theses, but is generalized unfortunately shows that I could have saved much of the trouble. But I did not. And I will not be in the future. I am a journalist. Also the invitation in a Kotaku forum the Gamergater I will not follow. Not because I'm cowardly, but because this piece is not a piece of opinion here - but a feature. All parties have their say, all sources are deposited. My views as a journalist are completely irrelevant to this text and I see no reason to justify any statement before an audience that his opinion has already formed.
  9. This article is exactly what gamers wanted to have - ethical journalism. He makes all sides speak, illuminates it from all sides and tries to differentiate as best he can. If, however, the article does not correspond to your views on the basis of facts or objections, this is not the fault of journalism.
