  1. [13:49] Would it be so bad if she was removed from this position?
  2.
  3. As she guides them inside they venture past the front desk, down through the recreational area and straight into the back room. Here, they take a left and venture into a room with a bed, medical equipment and a blackboard with the occasional scribble of an organ here or there.
  4.
  5. Melodies walks up to the surgery bed and pats it.
  6.
  7. "Strip and hop up. I'll need access to the affected parts." Allowing him a moment to do this, she makes an approach towards the water basin and summons forth holy waters. She dips her hands into the bowl, scrubbing them until the purified water nullifies the bacteria.
  8.
  9. "Step one of getting a licence... wash your hands." She mutters, then walks over to the table and retrieves a couple pairs of gloves. She slips her own on before snatching up a spare mask and putting it on. Considering she had an actual clinic now, she was taking the needed precautions.
  10.
  11. After all the years she spent in Dusk, she finally felt like a doctor.
  12.
  13. "So, tell me how this happened?" She approaches Sigfried with a tray of equipment.
  14. (Melody Hirabayashi)
  15. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  16.
  17. [13:55] * You have been awarded 1 Roleplay Points! *
  18. [13:55] Walked over towards the water basin. Wash your hands, it was such an obvious thing really. Slowly the Oscuri would pull at the fingers of her gloves. It took but a few mments to remove both gloves. Her hands dipping into the bowl to be cleansed by the magical water.
  19.
  20. Almost like a mimic the Sheriff followed behind Melody, donning a set of plastic gloves as well as a mask. Which required her to remove the veil they wore and to give up the pipe. Such was the cost of medical practice however.
  21.
  22. Lookig at Siegried the Sheriff was all ears. Clearly whatever they said would be filed away in a report at a later date. After-all the more dangerous individuals likely to cause trouble that his deputies knew of the better.
  23. (Ascalon Zanders)
  24. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  25.
  26. [13:57] The man kicks off his pants and his shirt, seeming to hold no modesty whatsoever. She'd easily be able to access the affected regions.
  27.
  28. The swordsman watches her wash her hands and attend to all the protocols and procedures of cleanly medicine practitioning. His hand comes up to his chin, which he rubs at, grimacing as he thinks about what'd lead him to being up here, in the mountains of all places, so far from home and preparing to go and throw his life away.
  29.
  30. But that's only momentary.
  31.
  32. He takes in a deep breath at her question, as if he were going to hesitate to answer, but then his eyes, electric with mirth and cheer, answer her question with a chipper tone that he in no way feels.
  33.
  34. "A man took everything from me, so I stabbed 'em. He stabbed back. I had one sword. He had a thousand. I'm jus' a guy. He's a guy too, but angels like him more than they like me - so he can fight like them."
  35.
  36. And that was that. It was clear he hadn't actually wanted to talk about it.
  37.
  38. "I'll be tryin' to do it again, but don' worry. Either I'll come back in one piece nex' time, or not at all."
  39.
  40. Casual as if he were speaking of the weather.
  41. (Siegfried)
  42. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  43.
  44. [14:03] Declan Caelum says, "Don't mind me."
  45. [14:09] A thousand blades and the favour of Angels.
  46.
  47. "... Sounds like an Elisheva." Or perhaps Isaac, but that was a stretch. The woman murmurs something to herself along the lines of 'typical' and steps forward. "Stand still, I am going to look into the injury. This will require contact." Reaching her hand out, the woman aims to press her palm against Sigfrieds chest.
  48.
  49. From the point of contact, mana surges.
  50.
  51. It ripples through his form like a strange static, illuminating the body to her closed eyes. She could visualize every fold, every leyline. It was to to this world as an Xray might be to another.
  52.
  53. Her eyebrows narrow together in thought. Muscle has been bent, warped and severed in parts. The hip itself has long since fractured, leaving it to grind against damaged parts. Which no doubt only added to the pain he felt. After a minute the woman finally exhales and opens her eyes, letting her hand fall to her side.
  54.
  55. "Broken Hip and a myriad of tissue tears. At the very least we will need to use the kit you provided us to replace or bind the hip back in place." She glances at Ascalon for a moment. "In the future try to examine the body with your mind. Being able to see its intricacies is an important benefit to healing."
  56.
  57. Some surgeries she simply would not have been able to do, otherwise.
  58.
  59. She steps back towards the table and opens the Mythril Prosthesis kit. The woman pulls out a strange device. An artificial hip replacement, handy. She turns around and smiles. "Painkillers or do you want to be knocked out?"
  60. (Melody Hirabayashi)
  61. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  62.
  63. [14:15] Ascalon's gaze leveled upon the stranger. Noting what was being said. It sounded like they'd had a run in with one of the demi-angels. Which one? After a few moments of thought regarding which one it could be. Only Isaac, the other Demi leader refused a standing armor. Thus couldn't have a thousand blades.
  64.
  65. The Zanders gaze narrowed a bit as they came to that realization. Though it was clear the man found the conversation painful and didn't wish to speak about it. It was understandable, it reminded them a little of themselves a few years ago.
  66.
  67. The Sheriffs gaze shifted towards melody as she began to utilize her mana to sense the issues of the young man. It seemed like simple enough method one they'd seen Arlei do in the past. Meaning all they'd have to do was mimic it with their own mana. Replication would be easy enough.
  68.
  69. 'Examine the body with your mind'
  70.
  71. It made sense and helped answer a curious thought the Zanders had had during the last surgery they witnessed namely how coud you take care of internal injuries? Seems the best way of doing it was the mana pulse method. M.P.M. for short-hand at this point.
  72.
  73. "I'll keep that in mind for the future. It seems to be a simple enough excersise in mana manipulation."
  74.
  75. (Ascalon Zanders)
  76. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  77.
  78. [14:18] "Never an Elisheva."
  79.
  80. The several seconds he spends on the table being operated on pass by in relative silence, letting her go through the motions of guiding Ascalon and explaining everything to them regarding this process. He hums, a tune, occasionally grunting in pain or discomfort, but, for the most part, he has been operated on and healed so many goddamn times...
  81.
  82. "Jus' do your worst," he says dismissively, not even answering the question of 'painkiller or knocked out.' "Can't be that bad."
  83.
  84. He was almost certainly wrong, given that it was hip replacement. It could certainly be that bad.
  85.
  86. But in a way, he'd become a bit of a masochist.
  87.
  88. This was his penance for always being the one who survived.
  89. (Siegfried)
  90. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  91.
  92. [14:30] The woman smiles warily.
  93.
  94. Do her worst? He did not want that.
  95.
  96. "If you're set on being awake for it-" Why is it mages loved staying conscious as their bodies are cut into? It was a question she could never bring herself to ask, at least aloud. "-then I should minimize the strain on your system..." Stepping around the table, Melody faces the mans back.
  97.
  98. "Stay still..." She reaches a hand out towards the nape of his neck where a stream of blessed waters makes wraps itself along the exterior. She halts the advance for a moment to observe the damage, if any. Assuming nothing show signs of acidic burns from the touch, she sends her Holywater down through the skin and compels it to wrap around the spinal cord.
  99.
  100. The water acts as a kind of buffer, completely disintegrating any nervous signals of pain.
  101.
  102. Melody pulls her gloved hand away and lets it rest by her side. "Exorcism can negate pain, but it is fleeting. But Holywater can trap the latent light and keep it stored for some time. If you use this to your advantage-" She looks to Ascalon. "-You can prevent anything related to pain from ever reaching the brain." She looks back at Sigfried.
  103.
  104. "Numbing the spine is always a desirable option, when it is one."
  105.
  106. She clears her throat. "Alright, lay down and we will prepare the surgery. I'll need a scalpel, clamps and - You know we'll just take it as we go along."
  107.
  108. Presuming the tools needed are gathered, their work begins.
  109. (Melody Hirabayashi)
  110. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  111.
  112. [14:34] There was a touch more respect for the man as they vouched a very real desire to suffer. It was a feeling the Oscuri could understand. Though they paid no more mind to it as Melody began instruction.
  113.
  114. Wrap holy magics, specifically water if you could about the victims spinal cord to prevent pain. Such would be a very useful thing to know if it wasn't for the fact that the Zanders had no attunement with holy magics.
  115.
  116. "I hope an overload of reika through their circuits is enough to numb pain. Not much of a exorcist myself."
  117.
  118. As they spoke they'd go about the duty of being an aide to the doctor. Gathering up the materials she listed and even some they didn't after all Ascalon wasn't completely ignorant this was the fourth time they'd been involved in one of these procedures.
  119. (Ascalon Zanders)
  120. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  121.
  122. [14:50] Replacing the entire Hip, this was not going to be a quick surgery.
  123.
  124. Waiting for the man to lay down, she accepts the drapes from Zanders and applies them over Sigfried. They were going to have to cut into his hip, retracting muscle tissues and severing their connections to the tighbone. Accepting the scalpel next, Melody carefully cuts and severs the connectors before grasping ahold of a particularly large saw with her blood-covered hands.
  125.
  126. Next up, she cuts into the thighbone with the saw, an effort that takes a considerable amount of back and forth motions that the man would feel as vibrations through his bones. Melody quite literally separates the legs bones from the rest of the body and yanks out the bulbous joint. "How he managed to hit the hip of all places..." She murmurs, retrieving the artificial hip from the presented tray while dropping any leftovers onto it.
  127.
  128. She always liked letting people see their removed parts. A kind of morbid curiosity she liked indulging.
  129.
  130. Melody then goes through the effort of hollowing out the inside of the thigh bone and jamming that mythril sucker in there before lodging the new ball end up into the now empty hip socket. Some fluid comes pouring out from the bone due to the pressure and lack of marrow, but she allows Ascalon to deal with the majority of the clean up and maintaining a clean view thus far.
  131.
  132. Next up, they had muscles to repair.
  133.
  134. Carefully folding the bodies muscles back into place, she proceeds to lace the wound with Holywater to encourage quick re-bonding and repairing of broken strands.
  135.
  136. But the next step is done with specific care.
  137.
  138. Leaving the holywater to pool along the interior of the wound, Melody gathers a needle and thread and starts to manually close the wound. Back and forth patterns, she eventually pulls on the string and ties it into a knot. He had enough scars, she did not need to give him any more.
  139.
  140. Exorcism was a wonderful pinch ofhealing. But it almost always caused scarring.
  141.
  142. Melody wipes her forehead with a bloodied glove. "I think that should do it. But you should not move for a good while... The last thing you need is the hip dislodging before the bone can properly mould around it."
  143. (Melody Hirabayashi)
  144. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  145.
  146. [14:59] This wasn't going to be an easy operation nor was it going to be a clean one. That much was evident from the moment that the man had said the words 'hip' anywhere near his description of what was wrong with him.
  147.
  148. Truthfully it was only in Aurum where you could find the best medics in the world that such an injury could have been fixed. Or at-least that's what Ascalon thought when he thought of the issue.
  149.
  150. Now to aid in the procedure, it wasn't a hard thing to do. Keep the wound clean by towing up the blood. Easily done for one who had no issue with the substance. Keep the right tools in Melodies hands. Another objective easily accomplish the Oscuri was fast enough to always have the right tool on hand for them.
  151.
  152. Keen eyes watched the efforts it took to remove the bone itself. Noting that she'd taken care not to go to fast to risk breaking more than she was already trying to fix. As well as how they'd been careful not to destroy they had careful cut and just folded the muscles back.
  153.
  154. Meaning once the new mithril prosthetic had been placed inside to take the spot of the old shattered bone? Well she could just refold the muscles and flesh! Utilizing a bit of healing magic to speed up the process.
  155.
  156. Something Ascalon wouldn't be able to do if he became a healer. Meaning he'd have to either find a substituted or his patients would simple have to suffer more during the healing process. Most likely the later would be true.
  157. (Ascalon Zanders)
  158. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  159.
  160. [15:12] There's a lot of advanced medical procedures conducted here that he'd never quite understand as a simpleton, barbarian, and general all-around ape. Siegfried's role in this world was to be pointed at people and things that were considered bad and told to go fight them, or reason with them. It was to dance, and to sing, and to write tales of men and monsters. It was to live life in the here and now. Not to patch wounds, or do hard labour, or any of that stuff.
  161.
  162. Egocentrism meant he only occupied himself with things he perceived as more grand in scale, if nothing else.
  163.
  164. "Not moving isn't an option when there's a whole lot ridin' on you."
  165.
  166. He immediately gets up.
  167.
  168. It hurts like a motherfucker, the wound that was just refolded seeming as if it is threatening to tear. He hisses in pain, and then slooooowwwlyyyy stands, looking around the room.
  169.
  170. "Hope this was good for 'yer studiesor whatever," he says to Ascalon. "Oh, an' Dan wanted me to talk to a sheriff Zanders...somethin' about being deputized, or whatever. You know where I can find 'em? Figured I'd talk to 'em before I got out of here."
  171.
  172. The lad wriggles his leg experimentally, to see if he'd be able to jump a thousand feet and land on it in a tuck and roll. It likely wouldn't be a good idea at all, given the recent surgery, but he was going to find out.
  173. (Siegfried)
  174. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  175.
  176. [15:19] Melody shakes her head.
  177.
  178. "Riding or not, you-"
  179.
  180. "What- What are you doing?!" She steps forward and quickly pushes him back down with full force. The blood on her gloves gets all over his shoulders. "You just had surgery! Healing magic or not that joint is one bad motion away from dislodging. Give it time to recover, for Hel's sake!"
  181.
  182. She points across the room towards the gurney.
  183.
  184. "That's the only way you are getting around for at least a few days if you know what's good for you." For just a moment it occurred to her that she might be trying too hard. "... Just listen to me or I won't tend to any wounds you have in the future." She steps away and dumps her gloves into the bin.
  185.
  186. Then she ventures over towards a bowl and returns with it. She shakes it around.
  187.
  188. "Care to donate to my chicken fund?" She smiles, blinking a few times. She had no means of income beyond this.
  189.
  190. She needed more chicken coops.
  191. (Melody Hirabayashi)
  192. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  193.
  194. [15:23] It was good for her studies that was for sure. It wasn't every day you got to assist in a full on surgery! Though as they listened to what the man was saying the Oscuri went about the business of washing her hands and then just tossing away the face mask. A glance was given at the burka that was hung up near the entrance to the room.
  195.
  196. Not worth redonning a the moment, so their gaze returned to Siegrifed they'd raise a brow. Dan had sent them looking for a Sheriff Zanders huh? Well, if Dan was sending them her way then they'd have to have GRIT. Which based on this rather brutal surgery they'd grit in spades.
  197.
  198. With a snap a gust of wind propelled their pipe from the air where it'd been floating. Back into her hand, easily resettling between her teeth to take a long puff. With their free hand they'd just tap the star pined to their chest.
  199.
  200. Next to it was a few old Legion medals. If one knew how to recognize them they'd be signs of knighthood and paladinship. Though it was quickly becoming forgotten at this stage with Dusk having fallen and the Legion dispersed.
  201.
  202. Watching the man get bodied by Meleody would bring a chuckle to the sheriff's lips. Not to long ago Lirien had did the same thing to him... Wait no that'd been nearly a decade ago. How time flied when you where in a constant state of warfare.
  203.
  204. "Listen to Melody she's a good doctor. Now, I am Ascalon of House Zanders. Current Sheriff of Aurum. I'll conducting my interview in this clinic if that's what you'd like."
  205.
  206. As they spoke they'd start to gently float within the air. Leaning back slightly as if to showcase a more relaxed posture. Clearly if the little smoke circles they'd started to puff in amusement was naything to go by...
  207.
  208. "You where directed by Dan to me. Why? Who are you? Why would Dan think you've the grit and will to serve the law? What can you bring to the table? Let's start with these questions and we can continue."
  209.
  210. (Ascalon Zanders)
