- Croix looked away.
- She couldn't meet Chariot in the eyes. Or should she still call her Ursula? Was that her real name now? Did everyone know she was Chariot by this point or was that still a secret?
- She wondered all of these things just to not think about what was to come.
- - So... Today ends your grace period, right?
- - Yeah... Tomorrow is the day... - Croix was nervous. She silently wished Chariot would leave her alone.
- Ursula looked sad. She pushed Croix to a far away corner, where the loudness of the party wouldn't bother them.
- - W... What do you want, anyways? - Croix was on guard.
- - I want you to relax a little - Ursula smiled - Why are you so tense?
- - Isn't it obvious?
- - You can talk to me, Croix. No need to be afraid - She put her hand on Croix's cheek and forced her too make eye contact.
- - I just... I'm sorry - She said.
- - I know.
- - For everything.
- - I know.
- - But even if you forgive me, i don't think i can forgive myself... Because of me you lost the rod... Your act... your hability to fly...
- - Everything you did was for a good reason - Ursula extended her thumb to whipe out Croix's tear - Even if it was bad, i understand.
- - The end justifies the means - Croix said - I believed that. It was going to be all worth it once i restored magic. But...
- Croix was surprised when Ursula moved a step closer and put her hands around her body.
- She lost all strenght. She didn't cry, tho. Ursula felt it and decided to carry her to her tower.
- - You keep helping me - Croix said when Ursula put her down on the bed - And i keep being a nuisance.
- - Don't be so hard on yourself - She sat on the border of the bed and gave a sparkling look to Croix. That look always got to Croix. It did ten years ago, it did in that moment.
- - I'm just as hard as i need to be - Croix still felt weak. It was Ursula's falut. It was Chariot's fault.
- The sudden burst of relief she felt with that hug was too much for her body. She wondered...
- - How did you feel?
- - What?
- - When you saw me again, how did you feel? After what i did...
- - I was angry - Chariot looked at the ceiling - And scared, and doubtful. But, in a way, i think... I was also relieved. You were ok, even if that plan of yours was on the making.
- Croix couldn't help but feel like shit. But she also felt great.
- - It's kind of funny - Croix showed a tiny smile - I hate myself more than everyone else.
- - Nobody hates you - Chariot intermingled her hand with Croix's - They know you ended up doing the right thing. Plus, besides me, you didn't cause any real harm to anyone, you know? Your techno-magic actually helped a lot. And those riots because of football... Well, it wasn't really your fault. Not entirely at least.
- - It... You... - She sighed - You're too much of a good person, Chariot.
- - Thanks.
- - It wasn't a compliment.
- - I know - She let herself fall on the bed. She looked Croix in the eyes, this time, she didn't look away.
- - I'm not ready - She confessed.
- - You never will, that's why you just have to enjoy the moment.
- - I won't be able to see you in years.
- - So?
- - Well, i mean, you will go on with your life and probably forget about me...
- She was shut up by Chariot's lips. The kiss was soft, sweet and packed with emotion.
- - Don't even think that i'll forget you - She hugged Croix again.
- Croix hugged her back.
- They cuddled up like that and, without even noticing, they fell asleep at almost the same time.
- They didn't let go of the hug in the whole night.
