- Today, I got fired from my job.
- [For a TL;DR, go to the bottom]
- I work at an IT help desk at the college I am a student at. Basically, last week, a student got promoted to a manager position instead of me. In my opinion, he absolutely did not deserve it over me. But, whatever, good for him.
- Later in the week, he made a giant mistake on the job. Basically, the night before, I was livestreaming a sporting event for the college (I do this work for them separately from the help desk end of things). One of the announcers came to me with a computer issue. I fixed him up with a temporary fix, but anything more permanent he would have to bring his laptop into the help desk center. My one co-worker was with me at the time, and I told this end-user to mention my co-worker's name tomorrow morning when he brought it in so that my co-worker could inform whoever was in the help desk at that time as to exactly what was wrong and what had to be done. He agreed.
- My co-worker is in a different department of the IT department but would be near the help desk in the morning. This is why I had the end-user mention his name (I would not be in until later in the day, and the end-user stated he needed the laptop back by the end of the next day for another sporting event).
- So, the next morning, at 8:30 AM, my co-worker goes into the help desk and informs everyone working at that time that the end user would be there soon. He told them exactly who he was, what his issue would be, and how to solve it quickly to get it back to him ASAP. One of the people working in the help desk at this time is the student who recently became a manager. Great.
- The end-user brings in his laptop at 9:00AM. He mentions my and my co-worker's name (like we told him to). All appropriate documentation was signed, and his laptop was placed on the rack of computers that need to be worked on (which was a particularly empty rack on this day. Slow day.).
- The new student manager then proceeds to do nothing but play games on his computer. For the entire day. The computer is not so much as turned on.
- Fast forward 6 and a half hours to 3:30 PM when I come in. I come in, sit down, begin to log into the various programs I need to do my job. The end-user from the night before walks in and asks about his laptop. The new student manager takes care of him while I watch/listen/continue to get set up for the day. The student manager informs him that it was not ready yet. The end-user tells him that he thought the laptop would be done today. The student manager informs the end-user of our 24-hour turnaround policy and that we were still working on it. The end-user stated he needed the laptop regardless, and he would re-drop it off tomorrow to be worked on.
- After the end-user left, I confronted the student manager. I asked him why nothing was done, he stated he didn't know. Knowing my name was specifically attached to this end-user and his laptop (as I told him to bring it in, and that it wouldn't take very long), I knew that his idiocy would reflect badly on me. I knew the end-user who brought his laptop in was someone who would go to our boss about something like this. I was not about to get in trouble for something that was not my fault (especially to this kid who got promoted instead of me, even though he sucks ASS). So I began writing an email to my boss.
- The email I was writing did not one time mention any names (other than the end-user who I felt was wrongly fucked over by this new student manager not doing his job). The new student manager sees me writing this email. He tells me to not send an email, that I am the one who is wrong for telling him it could be done in a day (literally was a 10-minute job, he had 6 and a half hours and little other work to do). I told him I was not trying to get him in trouble, and that I was just sending it to make sure all of our asses were covered if the end-user decided to complain. He fell silent for the remaining few minutes of his shift and left.
- I wrote two different emails regarding the subject and did not like how they sounded, so I ended up just letting it go. I did not send anything. However, this student manager thought I was going to. So what does he do?
- He goes to my boss first. He informs my boss that I am using "derogatory language in the workplace" and it is making him feel "uncomfortable". Keep in mind, any words I have EVER said in my work environment were the same words being used by co-workers, bosses, and management. I never said something like faggot or nigger. I've cursed at the job (as in, "oh shit!") but so has literally everyone else in the help desk (including the kid who reported me). I've never cursed at an inappropriate time (in front of higher management, in front of an end-user, to insult someone, etc); only during casual conversations between friends/co-workers (including the kid who reported me).
- My boss calls me in today, after my shift, and fires me. No talk, that is it. There is the door. He tells me why and to get out.
- So now, I am without a job. I have no way to pay my rent. Basically, I am fucked.
- I have a few options which I will discuss on-stream if anyone is curious. I have applications out to full-time jobs and even have one secured. But it would require me to drop out of this semester. I am between a rock and a hard place.
- Anyways, just felt I should let this all out there for anyone who is interested.
- I have no idea how much I will stream from here on. I used to think I could support myself off of streaming. Now that I am actually faced with not having a job and having bills to pay, I am absolutely not willing to risk it by trying full-time streaming. So, I will likely be gone within the coming weeks, for at least a little while.
- To anyone who cares enough to stay updated, look in my Twitch bio for my Discord server info. I will put life updates there sometimes. Also my Twitter, @gfc_srl, maybe.
- Thanks for the ride, y'all.

- TL;DR - I got canned because some idiot kid lied to my boss to make me look bad. Waaaah I have no money and rent to pay, waah.
