Vidya with Hibbers and Mirai

"Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck!"

The petite eye-patch-wearing girl on your left screamed out as her character missed the platform she was trying to jump onto, sending her plummeting into the bottomless pit below and setting her progress back quite a ways. Of course, "back quite a ways" was really only a concern for her, as both you and pink haired girl to your right were still struggling with navigating your characters through the obstacles earlier in the course.

It was your usual Tuesday night after meeting both girls through your connection with Yagyuu. After a few more meet-ups with "big sis", you'd met Hibari when she was walking out of school with Yagyuu. She joined you and Yagyuu on your trip to the shopping district and the two of you hit it off nearly instantaneously, feeling your natural energy being matched by hers. In fact, it seemed that Yagyuu was noticeably less stoic when she was with both you and Hibari, smiling more often and being more outgoing. You and Hibari started up a friendship of your own, as you learned that she would often walk by your house on her route to school every morning and so you started making an effort to get ready in time to join her on your way to school. As for Mirai, you ran into her while you, Yagyuu, and Hibari were in the shopping district one day. She had started making off-hand comments about Yagyuu being some kind of double-dipper or something, and based on how Yagyuu reacted to her comments you could only figure that the two knew each other some how, so you did the only logical course of action that came to your mind and invited her to join your group with shopping. The small girl had gotten flustered and started going off on a long-winded tirade about you being unfaithful to your girlfriends, which confused you before you clarified that you were just friends with the other two. Eventually the tiny girl calmed down and joined you and your group in shopping, looking through the shops and even a local grocery store, where you bought Mirai a lot of food and Hibari some candy, with both girls promising to make it up to you for doing so. Eventually, both girls showed up on your doorstep one Tuesday night, with Mirai carrying a gaming system and a bag full of games and Hibari with a bag of snacks, and the two had started showing up every Tuesday night since.

You and Hibari were roughly neck-and-neck, and whenever you'd glance over at the pink-haired girl you saw a look of fierce determination, completely undermined by how she was puffing out her cheeks. You'd managed to keep ahead of Hibari during most of this session, but you were stuck trying to pass a platform with that had a rapidly-moving block on it that kept knocking your character off and into the abyss below, and now Hibari was gaining on you. "You won't pass me up, Hibari!" you said as you gave her a slight nudge on the shoulder with your own. In return, she simply puffed up her cheeks and furrowed her brow more as she leaned forward, trying to focus on the game. After failing to pass the block again, you were respawned at the start of the section, where Hibari's character was waiting for you.

Now the battle had really begun, as you and Hibari fought each other for space on the platforms ahead of you, knocking one another around in an attempt to secure a lead. You both managed to shove each other off several times along the way, the victor usually falling off not long after, you due to forgetting some of the hazards in your haste to get ahead, Hibari due to not being familiar with the layout of this section of the course. You were both neck-and-neck again, and you were approaching the dreaded fast-block-platform that had stopped you so many times before. In a rush, you and Hibari both jumped towards it, with you hoping that your slight lead against her would let you avoid being hit by the block...

Your plans were cut short when the race froze and the words "RACE ALL OVER!" appeared on the screen. The camera quickly centered on Mirai's character, which was doing a victory animation on top of the finishing platform. The environment quickly changed to a small podium, where Mirai's character continued to dance atop the pillar that had "1st" printed on it. You and Hibari's characters dejectedly looked towards the screen atop their "2nd" and "3rd" pillars, respectively. You felt your nerves start returning to normal as you sank back in your seat, glancing at Hibari. She seemed to slowly realize that the race was over, and was starting to relax herself. Of course, Mirai had started to do a victory celebration of her own, jumping up and down in front of her seat.
"Yes! I knew I could do it!" she yelled as she continued to hop up and down. She quickly zipped around and pointed a finger at both you and Hibari with a smug look on her face. "I knew that I was the absolute best at this game! And you know what that means, right?" Of course you did. Winner pic- "Winner picks next game!" she yelled, still sporting that smug smile on her face. However, she seemed to have noticed the looks of dejection on both you and Hibari's faces, which caused her to cut her celebration short. "H-hey, I'm sorry. It was a tough game, right? I mean, I had trouble with those sections too, I just had a good head start..." the girl said as she started to trail off, mumbling further apologies under her breath. She was starting to get dejected herself when you realized that you had to keep the night going. After all, it was just a game, and Tuesday nights were supposed to be about fun, with some in-your-face gloating every now and then.
"It's alright Mirai. You're really good at that game, no doubt! Head start or not, I'm pretty sure you would've kicked our butts no matter what! Right Hibari?" you asked, turning towards the pink-haired girl, who had started to rebound from her loss as well.
"Yep! But don't think that we're going to lose next time! Right, Anon?" she asked as she stood up and started walking towards the sweets bag to rummage through it. Mirai seemed to perk up at both of your little speeches, and she started smiling again, though a lot less smugly than before.
"Alright then! I'm not going to pick an easy game next time, so get ready!" she exclaimed as she jumped off her seat to rummage through the game bag for something new. Hibari had sat down next to you again, handing you two candy bars, the both of you ready for whatever challenge Mirai could come up with.
