  3. T.I. (Training Instructors) - T.I’s. are academy class teachers. There main purpose is to teach the basic knowledge of policing, ethics and scenarios to the new cadets in training at the academy. There main goal is to ensure the cadets are well prepared with the skills and knowledge of police practice before they leave the academy and are transferred over to a FTO.

  5. F.T.O (Field Training Officer) - A F.T.O are in the field on road teachers. There main purpose is to continue the training the cadets received in the academy, and teach “on road” skills in the field. This training consists, but not limited to, Traffic stops, proper arrest procedures, proper use of force, ticket and arrest submissions (filling out reports). The F.T.O’s (also know as “Coach Officers”) will initially have a cadet ride with them, so they can continue to observe proper police procedures as they are used and put in practice by their Coach Officer. Once the Coach Officer feels there cadet is ready, the cadet will then drive the police car, and be the initial officer to make contact with the general public when dealing with enforcing the law, Unless the situation is too dangerous. The Coach Officer will be tasked with filling out a detail report on the performance of their cadet, indicating strengths and weaknesses, as well as any comments or recommendations and driving skills. This also includes whether the cadet is a good fit for the community.

  7. An F.T.O’s Job is extremely important as they are the final stage in the training process before the cadet is assigned their badge and allowed to patrol on their own. To become an F.T.O they must be an excellent candidate in Role Play (staying character at all times), police knowledge, policy and procedures this includes 10 codes and. The F.T.O must also have excellent patients, and composure at all times.

  9. These requirements are to help ensure successful results from the cadet once they are “cut loose” to patrol on their own. Selection on who becomes and F.T.O is extremely important.
