background:
She is one of the daughters of the wife of a king of a small foreign country in Europe that isn't very well known to most. During her younger years she mostly spent her time with her elder sisters and half-sisters that where from her father's other wives. Being one of the younger ones at the time, Hwa-young learned all her manners and etiquette from them, such as only talk when needed or have proper posture at all times, causing her to be forced into this mold of what a supposed 'princess' should be ( even though she would rebel every once in a while ). Her childhood in that foreign country was short lived once the news was out that her mother's health was deteriorating. To cut cost on living expenses, Hwa-young along with her second eldest sister was forced to move back to her mother's home country to live with her eldest sister that was already married and had a kingdom of her own. From her teenage years on wards she lived in the palace of her eldest sister.

personality:

Playful and kind on the inside- After being taught 'princessing 101' her manners are perfect, forcing herself not to get too  worked up and keeping a big smile on her face in front of guests. Behind this act she is actually a playful and jokey person, someone who gets excited about the smallest things, doing random little things such as imitating animal sounds for just sheer entertainment really.

Curious- She wants to know about everything. To why the sky is blue and the grass is green to why the world even exists as it is now, will it change? Stay the same? What is the point of existing when we were all destined to die in the end? She'll think deeply of these things silently in her head late at night when she can't sleep, keeping her awake for hours needing answers. It was horrifying yet she just needed to know, but not quite having the courage to find out.

Low self-esteem- At parties or public events she'll have this air of self-confidence or aloofness that surrounds her, smiling politely, if not a little forced and having small talk with the other guests, accepting compliments and invitations to dance. But in reality she feels very negatively about herself and her appearance, clenching her teeth when having to reply to the mentions of how beautiful she looked. At times she has some suicidal thoughts, thinking about what it'll be like if she didn't exist at all. Wishing to be reborn into someone else, someone who had more courage to do the things she wanted to do without worrying about risking her and her family's reputation.

Carefree- She has this attitude of carefree-ness, not minding if she gets married or not to a gentlemen of respectable position, as what her sisters keep pestering her about. Despite that, she still wants her kingdom to be respected and of high rank, not wanting to bring down her family name in anyway.

Stubborn- If she disagrees with something she can't help but voice out her opinion, despite having being taught not to. She'll keep on going on until she either gets her way or understands why it's this way, and not the way she thinks it should be.

reason to ball:

Hwa-young's older sisters where worried about her not having a suitor, especially Seon-hwa who is the eldest out of the siblings. Hwa-young was getting towards that time where she should get herself married, or at least have someone in mind. Her baby sister didn't seem like she wanted anything to do with any of that and that was worrisome, so Seon-hwa decided to play matchmaker. She had heard of a prince of a neighboring kingdom who was also single and contacted the king and queen in secret, without Hwa-young knowing anything. Soon enough the deed was one and they had agreed to get them engaged. Though the king and queen had told the prince, Seon-hwa didn't tell a thing to Hwa-young.


Hwa-young had heard of a masquerade ball being held by a neighboring kingdom from her sister and was told that they had specially invited her, and that she positively had to go. Though reluctant at first, Hwa-young was already dressed in her prettiest pale cream gown, makeup and hair done by the maids even before she had a chance to agree. She sighed but took the masquerade mask that was on the vanity and set off, not knowing the intention behind this was for her to meet the prince.

how did you meet:

They met at the ball, Hwa-young somehow being late even though the carriage left earlier than needed. She held her breath and quickly got out, not even waiting for the butler to open the door for her. Hwa-young knew that they had probably done the introductions already and it would be terribly rude to just show up like that, but that's what she did anyway. It would be even worse to go back home since she just got there. She took a deep breath and straightened her back, walking through the grand front doors of the palace, the guards immediately knowing her status and escorting her in. She wasn't sure what looks they were giving to each other, or what they meant by calling her the 'guest of honor'.

The embarrassment that had happened afterwards was more than she could take, cringing internally as she watched the servant who had been announcing the names of the guests get caught off guard all of a sudden. The poor man had to go though the list of guests and check back at which noble's name had been or who hasn't been announced yet. Her cheeks burned even more when he finally found her name and announced it out loud and clear, obviously drawing attention of the hundred or so guests that where in the ballroom as she walked down the carpeted staircase. But Hwa-young held her head high and proud, ignoring the whispers of the others in the crowd when she made her way to the ballroom floor where the guests parted like the red sea to let her go through. It was agony. ...Until the music played and everything went back to normal.

Hwa-young thought she could finally breathe, stealthily sliding over to the banquet table and walking around with a glass of un-touched champagne in her hand, chitchatting to the other guests at the venue, who where mostly royals and nobles as well. It was fine until a servant announced that a dance was about to take place, and now the prince would go choose whoever he would like to have his first dance with. She smiled at the other girls who started fanning themselves and squealing among themselves, it was cute, Hwa-young thought. It would be less stressful if she would just stay by the banquet table, pretending to sip the drink in her hand because she knew that there wasn't a way in hell that the prince would choose her, plus, the man didn't really interest her anyway.

"Excuse me princess, would you do the honor of giving the prince his first dance?"

She turned and a male with light pink hair and a kind smile held his hand out, bowing deeply before her. She could see the prince in the background. It was like he was forced to do it. Hwa-young didn't like that at all.

"Actually.. I'd rather dance with you instead."

♥ beginning :
He had the look of shock and confusion at those words. She was equally shocked at what came out of her mouth, but she couldn't take it back now, it was only polite to take place her hand in his, as it was held out for her in the first place. At this point she didn't even care about the prince, not that she ever did in the first place, but all she was looking at right at that moment was the man who she assumed was the prince's adviser. He had straightened up and for that moment they where just staring at each other, unsure what to do next.

♣ middle :
Ever since that night at the ball she can't stop thinking about him, even if they didn't get to dance together. Hwa-young finds it odd that her sister keeps sending her over to the other kingdom, if it was to just pass some things or have tea there, but she gets to see the adviser more often which makes her just a little happy about the visits. One day she realizes that he isn't where he usually is at and she looks around the castle, finding him at a library. She looks around at all the books, pretending to mind her own business and pretend to read a thick book just to seem like she's there to actually read, and not as an excuse to be around him. He notices her bored expression and suggests something else, somehow she convinces him to read for her. It goes on for a while, and the two don't even notice it's late. He looks up from the book and look down at her, noticing that she had fallen asleep on the table with her hair sprawled everywhere. He doesn't want to wake her and keeps her company that night at the library, falling asleep there himself even if that wasn't in his book of plans for the day.

They do get together ( I hope ? It's up to you ) and the wedding gets called off, mainly because the engagement thing really wasn't working out in the end at all. Though it's unsure if they plan to get married themselves is a different story and she decides to make her own place in the world with him in it too.

requested scene :
Something about Seokjin stressing about how this whole thing isn't right and how he tries to get the prince and princess together but it seriously isn't working on account of his own feelings as well. He kind of figures out that she doesn't know that she and the prince are engaged and tried to keep that a secret as well but just admits it, really wanting to convince her that she and the prince belong together despite the rumors that the prince is having an affair.

Or something fluffy and sweet about them going on a date around town and being themselves for one day.

This is my first ever application for an apply fic so I hope I did everything right ;w; Honestly I have no idea if this was what you had in mind for this slot but my creativity was literally all over the place here, haha!(?)  I'm excited for this story to continue, even if I get in or not ^^
