- I rewatched the ending to Elysium today. I didn't realize how tightly it's coupled to the politics of Bernie Sanders, AOC, and democratic socialism.
- EonEcho
- The ending even centralizes healthcare justice in the broader context of justice, both as MLK noted and democratic socialism advocates.
- EonEcho
- "Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and inhuman." - MLK
- EonEcho
- So, if you're looking for an artistic expression of democratic socialism, look no further than Elysium.
- EonEcho
- Now, you might concede, oh, well, sure, it's a nice movie and it is essentially a propo for democratic socialism, but I still don't like the underlying messages.
- 18:01 EonEcho
- That's fine. Just note what you're dismissing: Max is recapitulating the life of Jesus. Max is born into the suffering of mankind on Earth, outside of heaven, and he spends his life attempting to join heaven in Elysium. Upon entry to heaven, he must lay down his life for all mankind. He does this not because of anything they have done, because he desires them to have, knowing it is the only just outcome.

- And how are Max's actions to be understood in their goal? He's extended the Kingdom of Heaven to include all humans that exist, regardless of creed or appearance or circumstance. When the software notes "citizens added", those people have joined the Kingdom of Heaven. The medical bed immediately recognizes one of the elect, M. Santiago as being worthy of receiving the gift of life.

- The "officers", the corrupt dispensers of injustice, are recognized as a threat as they are attempting to disrupt the 'true order', that is, justice for all. The EMS space ships are dispensed from Heaven to travel to Earth as angels.
- EonEcho
- They fly above Africa, the origins of the species Homo sapiens. These EMS ships land ready to help all citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven. To note Christianity, "Grace is favour, the free and undeserved help that God gives us to respond to his call to become children of God, adoptive sons, partakers of the divine nature and of eternal life."[2] It is understood by Christians to be a spontaneous gift from God to people "gen

- erous, free and totally unexpected and undeserved".
- EonEcho
- The act of sending these medical ships is the quintessential act of grace in Christianity.
- EonEcho
- You'll note that Bernie mirrors this in his campaign when he asks if you're ready to fight for somebody you don't know.
- EonEcho
- Now, we know there are no gods, no angels, no Jesus, and no heaven. These are stories invented by our ancestors that describe their minds and their hopes. Elysium reminds us that no help shall come from beyond, but it can come from ourselves. We can answer the call of our ancestors when they described the non-existent Kingdom of Heaven not by merely noting it does not exist -- which is not the end of our story but the beg

- inning. Having set out so many generations ago, we understood that we are to be the creators of what we so long ago hoped to live in.
- EonEcho
- When our ancestors describe non-existent "God", it represents a totem of our understood highest values -- the way we wish the universe could be. It can be that way.
- EonEcho
- It begins by believing it possible such a world can exist: hope.
- EonEcho
- So, if a person were to reject the message of Elysium, recognize you are reducing the entire project of Christianity.
- EonEcho
- And, today, it's clearest realization is the democratic socialism of Mr. Bernard Sanders, AOC, and Progressivism.
