  1. “[Earth Bind]!”
  2. —And cast a spell.
  3. Countless chains formed of mud leapt at Cocytus, and Zaryusu broke into a
  4. wild sprint. He had even hidden Frost Pain behind his back so his opponent
  5. would not be able to gauge his attack range.
  6. Shasuryu’s declaration that “I’m almost out of mana,” was merely a ruse to
  7. deceive Cocytus. If he had taken the bait, perhaps he might have been bound by
  8. the mystic chains and been hit by Zaryusu’s charge from behind.
  9. However tough their opponent’s exoskeleton was, he should still be able to
  10. break through if he poured all his strength into the edge. With that in mind,
  11. Zaryusu had abandoned defense to focus on the attack, and the resulting strike
  12. should have been quite strong.
  13. He seems quite confident in his sword.
  14. Cocytus could understand how he felt, because much like him, Cocytus felt
  15. strongly about the weapons he owned. In particular, the sword he now wielded
  16. — which had once been used by his creator — was especially significant to him.
  17. Therefore, despite how lopsided it would make the battle, Cocytus insisted on
  18. doing battle with God-Slaying Emperor Blade in hand, as a sign of his supreme
  19. respect.
  20. However, they had made a miscalculation; which was that their opponent was
  21. Cocytus, Guardian of the Fifth Floor of the Great Underground Tomb of
  22. Nazarick.
  23. “…My. Defenses. Cannot. Be. Breached. By. Someone. Whose. Level. Is. Below.
  24. Mine.”
  25. The chains of mud rebounded off Cocytus an instant before they reached him,
  26. reverting to regular dirt and sinking back into the mire. Low-tier spells could
  27. not pierce Cocytus’s magical defenses.
  28.
  29. [...]
  30.
  31. And so the blade struck Cocytus’s body — only to deflect lightly off. His body,
  32. which glowed a faint blue, did not have so much as a scratch on it.
  33. This was the result of the impassable gulf that separated the highest-level
  34. NPCs of Nazarick from mere Lizardmen.
  35. “—Forgive. Me. But. I. Possess. A. Skill. Which. Briefly. Negates. Weakly-
  36. Enchanted. Weapon. Attacks. Once. I Activate. It. Your. Attack. Is. Useless.”
